If I remember right, Wang Duo has been under GJM for years hence why he features in many of his works.
But this assumes the ability to branch out into a new role. My point is that even this point should be evaluated more gently because some don’t get the opportunity at all. It’s really not as simple as a star wants a role and they can get it. A lot of actors want to branch out but the current environment in C-ent does not make it easy. Sometimes to get a different type of role, a star has to take on a job that is “beneath” them which can affect their ability to get roles in the future. This is also why it’s important not to look down on cameos and guest appearances. This is sometimes the only way for stars to branch out but if too much negative opinion builds on it, then this route might close too.

Tbh, the concept of typecasting in the early stages of C-ent star’s career should be evaluated more gently. In C-ent, stars are “typecast” from their first successful role. They will get a lot of similar scripts. And for some stars, these may be the only scripts they get. Some fans/teams also advise stars to build popularity through similar roles first and then branch out once their base is secure.
This is getting popular but I am not surprise to see Neo Hou and the other casts from My Journey To You. Yanan…
CDL actually has innocent heroine looks and the initial charm of YBC was that she looked pure and harmless but did evil (I didn’t watch the show but lord knows I watched her promo vid so many times😅). This show should be an interesting challenge for her. She hasn’t been the heroine in a while but she’s been honing her skills and GJM can coach newbies to a certain extent.
During the filming Guo Jinming was probably you will have a love interest, even you , all of you will have a love…
Honestly, foreign audiences complain about BE but BE is a sure fire way to be popular. Most of the top Cdramas are BE. If this drama is intending to be a hit maker like it seems, this is a smart strategy and those pairings who feel really tragic might come out on top.
Maybe she will start later this year. I think she’s been busy filming and dealing with the transition of a new…
Yes, it’s really different from the last team. Seems more capable in content creation. Now there’s more posts and videos and live pictures and the quality has been good.
I loved the series even though it was severely cut. The acting from the ML and FL was superb, and the script was…
I love this show too. I love Yezi to death and the chemistry of the lead couple. I feel like I’ve never seen this dynamic done so well before. YXM really dotes on Yezi but also ensures she can survive on her own in a relatively safe way. It’s so rare to see that I really can’t stand what editors did to this show and how it affected the actors😭
can anyone tell me other good romance historical drama or movie?? thankyouu ( its so hard to find good one after…
You will have to watch older Cdramas. This kind of character depth and portrayal doesn’t really exist anymore. Some similar ones are Royal Nirvana and Rise of the Phoenixes. If you like fantasy Love and Destiny is also quite good.
This page is littered with nutty fans of one of the leads who react and spit venom to the production especially…
Meh, it’s just venting and tbh this page is a lot calmer than the Weibo side. It’s mostly just concern for actor’s wellbeing rather than stuff like hair and makeup or fighting for first billing. Following a Cdrama from its embryonic stage will usually have these types of comments but they just don’t make it to overseas sites very much. With foreign fans becoming savvier and bridging the gap, this will be more likely. GJM is indeed controversial for various reasons. But that said, there must be reasons why these stars want to work with him. And those reasons come with a cost. He’s not a drama director. He’s from movies where directors have a lot more control over all aspects. He also has his own built-in fanbase. This means he can and might be more demanding than the usual less powerful drama director. Wong Kar Wai took 3 years to film Flowers and there were complaints about its deadline too but the results have been very successful for an online broadcast. That said though, I don’t think it’s out of line to criticise production (I think rumors are out of line though). Stars get criticised all the time on MDL for elements that often have to do with production. Yet so few are willing to acknowledge how much production affects the quality of a show. In fact, I think this tendency to put all the blame on stars and ignore the shortcomings of the crew is partially why Cdrama is in the bottleneck situation it’s in now. So, if it’s in reason think it’s fine that some of the responsibility/criticism falls on the crew too.
A fan posted a more complete video of Xiao Ran’s start-up look. Reposting because it has better closeup shots and less face distortion because there’s less zoomed in shots: https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4997434579353720
It’s at least S but I can’t remember if it’s S+ but tbh the production cost grade is meaningless nowadays. All last year was full of S+ duds. It’s better to look at the actual drama crew and their past work if you want to see the quality of the drama.
