Funny

I liked this drama. It was very funny. Shin Hae Sun's acting is phenomenal. I loved how she potrayed the Mr. Queen. Her acting made this show great.

The story was confusing, but I think I may have missed some key details.

For some time I was confused on what was the ledger. Why was it so important? I'm still currently unsure who the dowager ladies are related to. I also think the ending could have been better.

But overall, this show is one of my favorites! The chemistry was off the charts! I was always eager to see scenes with the king and the queen, and I had a fun time watching it.

Storyline Issues

Started on 9/18/2020, finished on 9/25/2020. After pondering about this show for almost a year, this review is my verdict.

Overall: 8.5/10

The Story: 6.5 out of 10.
The premise was charming, but the execution was not. (((((Slight spoiler: I disliked the memory loss plot, as it was pointless and made simply for a longer story. It is also cheezy and cliché in my opinion.))))) No spoiler version: the ending was not as quick-paced and riveting as the first half. The plot was dragging extremely. The writer conveniently writes twists so that the plot moves smoothly, but it is not done well. It is messy and illogical. It felt like the writer could not think of anything else, something that would tie seamlessly into the beginning information.

The Acting/Cast: 8.5 out of 10.
Although I was sort of annoyed with the female lead’s (Han Hyo Joo’s) acting, it is bearable. The male lead’s (Lee Jong Suk’s) acting was just okay as well. I liked the cast of the male and female actors. They had great romance and chemistry. The acting that I enjoyed was of the female lead’s dad (Kim Eui Sang). His acting was phenomenal and made up for the mediocre acting. I also enjoyed the bodygaurd (Lee Tae Hwan) and the acting of the female lead’s brother (Lee Si Eon).

The Music: 9.5 out of 10.
Although the music is not revolutionary, hearing the music gives me nostalgia and memories of this show. I loved the main theme of the show, and the music was placed well with the show.

The Rewatch Value: 10 out of 10.
This Rewatch Value plays a big factor in the rating of this show. Although the story was not that great, the suspense and emotions are overwhelming. This show can be watched multiple times, unlike other shows. At the moment, you will love this show immensely. This show is very charming.

Conclusion:
W is a show with a questionable plot and writing, but amazing emotions and writing. It’s an essential show to watch, just for the feels. If the writing and acting were better, this show could easily be a 10 or 9 out of 10 (an 8.8 or 8.7 as of MDL ratings). The writing/plot is a let-down.

If you enjoy the genre, watch it

Some people don’t like cheesy dramas, but this drama in particular is very cheesy. If you don’t like it, then there’s no reason to watch it. If it’s too cringe or cliché, watch something else.

The whole premise of this drama is from this cliché drama. So if you choose to watch True Beauty knowing that it will be a ‘cringy rom-com’ and get mad for it being ‘too cringy’, that is foolish.

If you like cheesy rom-coms like me, then the rating (of 9) applies. I personally like Weightlifting Fairy, Strong Woman, because l enjoy the genre and cute moments. There’s no point in giving this drama a bad review for its cringiness if you can just spend your time somewhere else.

This is a good light drama. It’s not deep. It’s a good cliché drama to watch on the side of something more exciting (like maybe fantasy or apocalyptic). It’s worth watching.

The directors and writers did a fabulous job considering how little they have from the Webtoon. It was fun to see what they could come up with. They were very creative.

Overall, there are some dramas that are better, of course, but just because they are better doesn’t mean that this drama is worse. (I sound like a broken record, but I just wanted to emphasize this.)

I also loved the cameos of Extra-ordinary You in this drama. They are fun Easter eggs because both are set in Manhwas.

If you want a fun, bubbly, cliché, and cringe rom-com to watch, this is definitely one to invest your time in.

Don’t expect something like Penthouse of Sweet Home from it. That’s barbaric. It’s a good drama for its genre.
