They have different personalities shaped by how they faced the trauma they faced in childhood. For MingLan, her speaking up made things worse for her and her mother. Shiyi was exiled with her mother and learned to be independent to survive. QY held a grudge and learned that her family with the exception of her legal mother didn’t care about her so why should she care about them. As long as they don anything directly to her or those she cares about. All three are concubine born that becomes the main wife of a Marquess.
Agree about her immaturity in handling the investigation. She’s gotta thin what could cause her mother to be killed? Also, if she found out her mother had something going with the monk, would she stop to preserve her mother’s reputation? What was the second chamber’s “scandal”? I don’t know why but I feel that QM may have had something to do with it. She’s backstabbed a lot of people in her family. But it can also be a conspiracy by Yuan Lang and the Emperor is interfering as a warning balance between Yuan Lang and Liang Yi.

Agree. I really do hope she has character growth. I can see the possibilities with ML for her character growth but she doesn’t have much middle ground and in that world/time period, you need to. Example, never air your family’s dirty laundry…because not only do you doom the person you’re after, but you doom yourself and the whole family. It’s not about filial piety but about arming potential enemies when your family works for the government. Also, she’s too blinded by her grief and isn’t thinking straight to really get to the truth. At the same time, she’s not seeing other possibilities of that second chamber “scandal”. She’s overlooking potential clues.

I thought it was where the Royal entertainers are, such as musicians, dancers, etc…and those entertainers probably do more than play music/dance.

It’s also a place where female family members of nobility/officials are sent for punishment/discipline through servant work and sometimes, if an official takes a liking to one of them, they could probably bribe the managers to have them. The punishment is to clean all the official quarters and do menial work like laundry, kitchen work, clean the toilets, etc. There’s something similar for the male children too I think. Don’t know what I would consider luckier, going into exile with nothing to barren lands or being sent to the Royal Academy, essentially as slaves. These are punishment for crimes that don’t warrant Clan Punishment (death to all family members).

Agree on that part with QY. I’ll probably get lamb basted for saying this but, this is her self-serving side because throughout their entire interaction QX really fell for QY but he was only her way to escape horrible marriages and her friend. And now it’s her way to escape the Academy without really thinking about the consequences it will have for QX.

Then they should have given us 3 episodes this week instead. That would have made up for this AK mess. Oh well.

Correct so technically YG doesn’t even have to call her step mom. She was a mistress and not the second wife since his dad never married her. The reference to her being step mom is out of courtesy for his father and his half sister because Wang never raised him so there’s no maternal affection there.

That’s why I said the SeRyeon is YG’’s half sister not step sister. Plus Wang is not really YG’s step mom since she never married his dad. It’s a courtesy because she’s Se Ryeon’s mother, if he refers to her as such at all but she was only ever a mistress and never official. That’s why when he’s mad, he calls her Adjumani/old lady or something like that. If Wang was nice and had actually helped raise him, the words step mom would probably come out of his mouth easier. At least he allows his kids to call her grandmother even though she has no grandma affection for them either.

So his half sister SeRyeon is the carefree rich girl who just wants to give her mom whatever she wants to keep her mom out of her hair. She finally woke up and isn’t letting her mom use her for the marriage/share thing anymore but wants to at least give her mom a consolation prize?? The consolation prize being that YG allows her to stay at the house as the elder even though she really has no claim to it since her and YG’s dad never married and she never raised YG. Wang has always wanted to be Madame of the manor but the dad never married her even after his wife died. It also looked like he probably didn’t love her since she got nothing and is only living there by YG’s graces.
It would be interesting to see what happened there because to me it seems Wang may have been in a one-sided love/obsession thing and the dad fell into the trap got her prego and she never let go.

We kinda saw how it affected YG’s psychology when he was 22 yo…his dad was still alive and he was always chasing out Wang and angry at both.

I would totally watch HBQ and GWG in a romance drama. If only that can happen. They both look like they have a lot of dramas lined up.

I was a little confused too about TM. I thought she was crushing on QG, but someone said she only thought of him as an older brother. I they had given more air time to NM & QG being a couple. Seems like the editing was choppy in that they cut out too much.

I would totally love to see HBQ and GWG in a romance drama. They look really cute together in their regular clothes.

Not sure if there’s the same rules in other countries, but can they date their superiors due to appearance of favoritism? One of them will have to transfer or is Blue Lightening just a temporary coed unit?
