I think this dude has always had it in him - he was okay with using sulfer to kill innocent ppl in the beginning of the drama.

I think it has a lot to do with the original work. In the novel, the FL is not as strategic and so it’s focused more in the bedroom.

He liked the FL more and more because of the person she is and then fell for her completely when she helped him expose that scheming girl when accused him of wanting to marry her. After that incident, Wei Yan painted FL’s face in the portrait of the Goddess of Yushang (The scholar in the story is how he felt for FL). DUDE IS IN LOVE LOL
