I think the way the drama did it made sense - he was made aware and gave his cousin a warning. I thought he went a little crazy in the novel after hearing about it from his cousin’s concubine the first time.
I do agree with you that he’s made less brutal though. In the novel, he was an animal (especially in the bedroom lol)
