I think deep down she knew that Lady 8 was helping her along the way in the Pearl Village even when she didn’t know she was her mom. Do you remember Lady 8 giving her medicine like it was a normal thing she did? If Duanwu didn’t trust her, she would not have drank it. Also, it was mentioned that she spent a lot of time with Lady 8 doing the books.

Then the last time she saw her she saved her life.

I know. The main issue I had with this is the casting. I just think she’s too old to be playing this character and the the ML is too young to be playing her love interest. He did well as the Duke because for a young actor, he has an aura to him though.
