korea overdoing it with the bullying. they really like to overdo any trend holy fuck... i just miss dumb rich…
I prefer those serious/dark bullying drama than the pointless & dumb romantic school comedies where I feel like I'm losing braincells every minute I watch.
We got 90% of those for years, finally a bit more diversity. I guess everyone has its preferences.
Just watched episode 6 and to be honest, the performances were mostly lackluster. The rankings for the performances were ridiculous and even the mentors were horrified.
On a more positive note, I really appreciate two things about this show in comparison to Boys Planet. Firstly, the mentors providing feedback right after each performance, instead of being in a seperate room. Secondly, the mentors are much more involved in the training process, which is nice. On BP, the mentors and their feedback weren't really highlighted except during the first two episodes. During the 2nd part of the show, they were quite useless and had minimal screen time.
It wasn't like that back in PD101 days, I hope they will fix that in next Planet's seasons.
6 episodes? I fear we will get a Part 2 with a cliffhanger ... This trend is so annoying.
Netflix are the worst, first they started by cutting dramas (which traditionally were self contained within one season with a clear beginning and an clear ending) into seasons with cliffhanger endings. Now they do that inside seasons. Ridiculous.
Dirty marketing strategy to keep people subscribed for several months, while they wait for next part.
Else the drama looks very good, looking forward to it!
They show us performances, but the following elimination has already been filmed ... What's the point?
Basically whether a trainee perform good/bad in the performance doesn't matter at all in the voting. As they are likely to be eliminated even before the performance episode is broadcasted.
You can say what you want but these motherfs at Mnet know how to make a decent show and they actually have a lot…
I still don't understand why the fuck did they chose to start airing that at the same time as Boys Planet. Such a stupid decision to think they could take over it.
It has nothing to do with Youku. If they could air it or post an announcement, they would. It's in their own interest…
What is Youku supposed to do if they have been ordered by the government to not mention this drama anymore? Just violate the order?
I'm 99% sure it has nothing to do with Youku simply because what they have done with this drama (halting the broadcast without explanation and going radio silent about it) makes zero sense from a business/company perspective. It's not in their interest to do that. So it can only come from above.

They most likely had a permit to broadcast it but the drama became too big on chinese social media, so it was revoked. I don't see how it's their fault. Nothing about being "brave".
They can't make an announcement if they have been explicitely told not to so by the government. It would be suicidal. As I said in my previous message, what has been done with this drama makes ZERO business sense. It is purely political.
It's stupid to blame the broadcasting company when they have no say about what they can show or not. Blame the true responsible persons (but those are way more dangerous).
I know it wont make any difference, but I've stop supporting Youku dramas, and I wont watch any of Youku new dramas…

It makes no sense from a business perspective to stop a popular drama from airing and to go radio silent about it. If it was a normal break, they would announce the next episodes as "coming soon". Similar to what 2-parts drama do.
They most likely were forced to cancel it and to not mention it anymore by the only entity able to give orders to media companies, the government censorship bureau. Making an announcement would mean more people will start talking about the drama while they want it forgotten.
You really need to be desilusional to think what's happening is Youku's doing and decision.
I saw an interesting viewpoint on tiktok how people from different countries may view the ep10 massacre differently,…
It's not only viewers from Korea/Asia, I'm from Europe and I didn't get triggered at all.
In most of the world, these kinds of event are seen as something that happens only in the USA. Which is understandable since more than 95% of the time, it happens there.
On one hand, I really enjoyed the direction that the show took in episodes 7 to 9. The focus on a more psychological drama, with an emphasis on how humans can be more terrifying than spheres, and the exploration of the relationships between the students, rather than just mindless fighting, was a welcome change from Part 1.
Some people didn't like this because it goes away from the "students vs sphere" focus of part 1, but I personally really enjoyed this shift in genre. Whether you will like it or not depends of your drama taste (action vs psychological).
This will probably be unpopular, but I also really liked that there is no adults anymore, I was a bit tired of the platoon leader always directing them "do this, do that". It's nice to see the sudents having to make the decision themselves.
However, episode 10, the final episode, was a big letdown. It was completely nonsensical and ruined the entire story for me. The ending was brutal and unsatisfying, and while I don't mind a sad ending, it should be introduced and set up properly, which was not the case here.
In addition, I believe that Part 2 should have been longer, with 6 to 8 episodes instead of just 4. We are left unsatisfied. I suspect if we had 3 or 4 episodes more to build up the final one, it would have been an acceptable ending.
TLDR: ep 1 to 9 good, ep 10 bad (If you start the drama now, stop at episode 9).
But, Duty After School is still among the best dramas of 2023 to me.
They knew what they were doing with this content (interesting part starts at around 5mins), hahaha ...
Too bad there is only 1 episode per week, so frustrating. Should have discovered it after it ended airing!

This is indecent. In the meantime, plenty of people have financial trouble.
I mean, of course she deserves a decent salary but this is way too much.
Good riddance.

But I doubt we'll ever hear about it again.
They're not gonna post "Sorry, our drama got censored so we have to cancel it".
They should have done like Boys Planet and recorded 1 week in avance instead of 1 month...

Same for Desires Catcher, they removed every single element of bromance (not even BL) from it.
