Just commenting: " I initially thought Jang Uk and Jin Bu Yun will take a while to meet but they met right away and ended up “getting married” right away. Anticlimactic, it was."
Not anticlimatic, Hong Sister just wanted to insert that boring ol' trope of arranged/contract marriage. The same with the other boring ol' trope: amnesia...

I hope you won't mind my comment but I'd like to comment on a few points you made.I feel like calling Beom Seok…
Thanks for your critics. Let me explain:

Beom Seok and "nutcase"
I'm quite surprised you think that term is too insensitive. I'm actually expecting there would be reader comments stating that I'm too soft or sympathizing with Beom Seok's character.
I watched and started writing about WHC1 a few days after it was released (8 episodes in one go). Before and during the process, I read all comments and reviews to get other viewers' POVs and some ideas for my articles. Most of them were very negative and harsh towards this character and many were angry when the drama shifted focus to him and his story. To summarize them: Beom Seok, go to hell.
While a few feel sorry for Beom Seok and can understand his deeds, I chose to remain neutral by giving the readers my opinion taking from development psychology theory.

Shi Eun and "psycho"
Do you know that Soo Ho once called him "psycho" too? It's a joke.
A few comments also stated that Shi Eun needs psychological therapy/counseling. What he did when facing his bullies can give the impression to viewers that Shi Eun may have a mental health issue. But I beg to differ. That's why I put it as a question on the last GIF to give readers/audiences another impression that Shi Eun has pretended all along

The drama's dialogues actually have a lot of curse words that you regard as insensitive. And if you read the Webtoon, there are more curses and crude words. The dialogue in the drama is already toned down.

Elegy.
I wrote in the article "In broad terms, impersonally elegy is a piece of literature to express grief over some aspect of contemporary life. In this article's case: youth fragility."
It's a figurative word. Think about the Kdrama Hymn of Death or Cdrama The Long Ballad.
The elegy/lamentation is not about the brutality and violence of the story. It's about the fragility of youth.

I hope the explanations help clarify my intentions.

Nurse: "Can you imagine [her] being your MIL?"
FL [smh]: "It's horrible"
Is that foreshadowing?

Great article!I personally think Shi Eun did understand Beom Seok (in that gif where he asks why he did that to…
I agree with you, and your comment doesn't sound like a stretch.

Besides math as his favorite subject, Shi Eun also loves psychology and applies science, especially when facing bullies (the clicking pen, etc). Although he seems apathetic and detached, he is actually observant and later becomes thoughtful once he befriends the other characters. So the same like you, I also believe to a certain degree he understood Beom Seok's personality. It started when Beom Seok freaked out seeing his former bullies at the karaoke, Shi Eun already sensed something happened to him. When the latter went to the bar with the bullies and the next day smoked with them, Shi Eun also asked Beom Seok first what was wrong before threatening the bullies and discussing it with Soo Ho. Were he not caring about Beom Seok, he probably would just not say anything or just talked to Soo Ho.

I love that WHC1, despite seeming like just an action youth drama with lots of fights and cursing, it's very deep in portraying the characters and the coming-of-age environment.

Douban rating is 8. Very high for a Chinese romcom.

This whole "maybe siblings" telenovela plot is just a useless angst because it is OBVIOUS they are not brother…
I don't think she planned for revenge in the beginning. She was also shocked on her first day to find out that the PTA chairwoman is Xie Shu Fen whose name she knows. If she wanted to revenge her thru Zhang Yi Xiang she might've seduced him since the beginning. But she avoided his approach many times but he is persistent. It was just Xie Shu Fen who accuses and gaslights her that she seduced her son, etc.

He doesn't have amnesia. In the end after she confessed, although his eyes are closed, he smiled, took her hands and caressed her face.

Who says you can't root for both?
Yeah, you might be right. I think Yuwen and WanWan will play important roles later. I'm updated and my speculation I think the Emperor Fu will go crazy and Yuwen or his bro Prince Nanjing will become Emperor. I haven't seen Prince Nanjing cast probably he will show up later.

Thanks a lot for this intricate analysis !To answer your questions regarding the final scene between Sieun and…
Well, it's just my guess... DID is a medical diagnosis, if not having it now probably later if he's still alive, since his dad said he would hire assassins once Beom Seok arrives in the Philippines...

Regarding Shi Eun self confidence... my take is that when his parents were still together, they fought and blamed each other on his weakness but never blaming him, neither after he got expelled. During their spare convo with him, they always praised him. For a child, parents positive affirmation is very crucial before social acceptance thru friends/teacher at school age.

I didn't read thru the Webtoon but I read about his characters relating to other characters who haven't showed up yet. According to the Webtoon, he will make friends inside and outside school later.

Webtoon readers said he is a better fighter at the new school, they complained Shi Eun in this drama is rather weak.

No, I didn't say that he let go the revenge, he forgave Beom Seok but he might revenge the assemblyman and others in the future it depends how S2 and the Webtoon will go. But at this moment he would've just let go because he's still need to finish highschool. He would be better equipped once he learned some higher education than just highschool dropout/graduate, right? I watched a drama where the characters waited a long time and took proper high education needed to execute revenge.
