True, he's probably dead because he's in Netherworld, but he doesn't go anywhere (crossing the bridge to the other side as per their after-life belief). Speaking of dead or not, in Ep 1, the guy who stole the camera in the beginning with, wasn't he alive when he went to the Netherworld? Cos he could come back to see his family.
the plot is so confusing to say the least. I like ML and FL though.
I get why you're confused, especially if you live in Western world with its realism philosophy. Although modern communist China enforces realism philosophy but China's root is spiritual based on Confusianism, Daoism, and Buddhism beliefs. This drama has a Daoism philosophical/spiritual message, derived from Zhuangzi's dream of a butterfly (mentioned in the convo of two Yunqis). You can google more about it.
Fortune writer can be anyone who has obsession/greed. In this case, the father has his own agenda, thus he wants to control his family. You can compare with other dramas in which shows that demons are created from people's greed/obsessions. Father isn't a fortune writer for his amusement, but he has obsessions and he sees the daughter's greed and write her fate according to that. Once the daughter no longer attached to her desires, he practically loses cos he can't manipulate her anymore. We also see she is offered to be the new fortune writer but she refused because she no longer has ambition to control others.
The ending is that everyone has their own fate they're responsible for without being controlled by others. Lu Huai's guard resigns and chasing her own dream. The prisoner completely forgets about his plant and she gives it to him because it's his. She no longer jealous of her sister's fortune thus she has her own fate to be with Prince Chun, since Yunqi no longer desire to be princess/queen by marrying Prince Chun. Yunqi is no longer obsessed about being a noble lady and runs a tavern instead. She also no longer attached to Lu Huai but in the end he always remembers and likes her.

The phone number mix up somewhat doesn't make sense that nobody caught it until 10 years later, lol! I mean, when I get my school yearbook, the first thing I do is always checking my picture and my info. But I guess it's a reason why those 10 people need to have a reunion.
Can I ask is the two couples got happy ending?? And is the romance/love part bigger or the thriller n investigation??!…
Happy ending for the main couple, not for the second couple. They got divorced but never get back together. That's why I want a second season with them as the main couple. They're not annoying second leads who are obsessed with the main leads tho at first SML likes FL and SFL likes SML.
Half-half imo, since the romance/love part consists of two couples.
Yeah, I love it, it's melo. The main couple love each other since teenagers but so many obstacles for them to be together.
Pardon me... Ruan Nanzhu is the name in the novel, while in the series is Ruan Lanzhu. If I may suggest, since…
Hello, finally I got the temporary access from MDL to fix the names (RLZ i/o RNZ in the drama) and also the time span (50 i/o 30). Thank you for your keen eyes to point out those mistakes in the article. We really appreciate it!
