I'm the first person who says, ratings don't matter especially on MDL, because most people can't give lower score…
You're probably just an average viewer, but sadly, this comes with my job as well, and most of the time, even when I don't write anything about a show or a movie I watch, I can't just ignore the problems. 😅 To be fair, I'm not as critical, because I give a higher score to a lot of show that deserve lower.
For example, Lovely Runner is far from being the worst ever, I rate it 5/10, so it's basically average, at least in my standards, because between 5-7 is average. Below and above that, you can guess the rest. Without the last 2 episodes, I think I would've given 7/10 but the last 2 irritated the sh*t out of me, lie, I almost throw out my TV.😂 I hate when Kdrama writers mess up their shows in the finale.
My lowest rated drama is 3/10, and the funny thing is, both are led by one of my favorite actresses. I only finished "Abyss" and "Private Lives", because of Park Boyoung and Seohyun.
I don't think, WLGYT is a drama that you can rewatch any time, because it's not feelgood. If you wanna be depressed, you can rewatch it for sure. I don't think you have to have parents like them, I don't have either. Shows like this are made for me, because deeper or slower shows are my type. I don't watch them all the time, because I would need a therapy as well.😂

And this is why I never rate any Kdrama higher than 9 so far, because most are just pure fun, but if you think about the story a bit deeper you can tear them apart like paper. Not just Lovely Runner but many others as well. This is why I don't watch Comic Book movies anymore either, even tho I love Comics. At one point I thought I need something else, not just brainless fun. I love comedy and feelgood fun where I don't have to think much, but in the case of LR it didn't happen, because the main plot was time traveling, one of my favorite genre. So I was more critical because of that.
There's another brainless fun, Kim Sejeong's latest show, Brewing Love, it wasn't the best, but entertaining, even tho it was clishe as hell and sometimes convenient storytelling with some plot holes too.
When it comes to Fantasy, Scifi or Historical drama I'm more critical. With a drama like WLGYT that is about real people, I only care about acting and well-written characters.
I'm sorry, but it's obvious you didn't pay attention, because you don't understand these characters at all. After…
I don't mind fair criticism, that's what I do too. I'm a massive IU fan, and I don't give 10/10 for everything she does. This is the 1st time, actually. Many people love her other drama "Moon Lovers", and yes it was good, but I still think they messed that one up big time after the 2nd half.
Anyway, my only problem with your problem is what you said about the characters. In a way, you're right, Aesun can be too much, but there's a reason for it, and later she changed a LOT. That's what I love about this show btw, the character development.
I'm pretty sure every Kdrama fans all-around the world can be toxic, even in Asia. People are the same, it's not about ethnicity.
The ML is much more than that, btw, but as I said, 4 episode is not long enough to understand everything, but if you don't like the actors and the genre, I don't recommend watching it, because it's also not a fun feelgood drama either.
I'm sorry, but it's obvious you didn't pay attention, because you don't understand these characters at all. After…
Look, if you don't like the actors, that's fine, if you think it's boring, because it's basically a documentary about real life people, that's also, okay. Even tho, saying, it's boring is too much, but anyway. But what you said about the characters... is not true at all. They're not one dimensional characters like many Kdrama characters. For example, Aesun can act like a brat, and yes, it can be irritating, but you understand why she's like that, you'll understand everything. She's a kid who didn't have anyone, like, ever, except her mom who has to always work till she dies. And she doesn't have anyone else who she can trust, just Gwansik. But she was too young, so even tho she knows everything and she actually loved him since day 1, she put on a shield to protect herself. Just like many people do in real life.
This is not a typical romcom, where the boy meets the girls and everything cute and perfect.
I'm the first person who says, ratings don't matter especially on MDL, because most people can't give lower score…
You can see it on my watch list. There aren't many drama or movie higher than 8. To be fair, that's not all I've watched, but I'm too lazy to add everything I've seen. 😅
If I'm being 100% honest, I don't think WLGYT is perfect in a sense you can't find one thing that you didn't like. For example. Episode 7 was not my fave, but overall, what I've seen deserve the 10/10, because the writing was one of the most consistent I've seen. Not to mention the directing, acting, the OST (more like original Score) VFX, art department, make-up etc. Everything was spot-on.
I'm the first person who says, ratings don't matter especially on MDL, because most people can't give lower score than 8, but this drama deserves the perfect score for sure. I mean, I had to wait 20 years to give 10/10 for something. Also, it was written by the same woman who wrote "Fight for My Way" another amazing show. So, it's not surprising that this one is a masterpiece lead by one of the best actors, writer, and director.
I mean, if Lovely Runner deserved a 10 from you, this should be 100.😂 No offense.
hence the message this drama try to convey; “do not be so hard on your father, he never truly lived for himself..”…
The writer portrayed perfectly how real people behave honestly. Especially kids with their parents. Kids usually realize too late what they should be thankful to their parents, and just like Aesun said, even parents don't know everything about their kids.
So i am on ep 4 and I don't enjoy it. Things progress too fast, IU screams a lot and is being selfish and mean…
I'm sorry, but it's obvious you didn't pay attention, because you don't understand these characters at all. After 4 episode, you should know them by now. I mean, I get if someone don't like this style because it's too real not some fantasy, but what you said about the characters is just being ignorant or what's worse, maybe you just watched it on 2x speed or as a background noise as many people do that nowadays.
If Disney buys it try watching it on bilibili for free with good quality. A couple of channels upload kdrama and…
I only have D+ because of the kids of my sister. Yes, Bilibili only 720p for free and that's not good. You can use better sites like: Betterflix or Asiaflix, or Dramaday for direct downloads, but I don't like using warez anymore. Especially if I'm already paying for a streaming.
VIKI is not much better than Disney, especially with their crapy 720p quality. It's the 21st century, but they still don't have 4K or at least FHD. :D FHD is the minimum I want!
I don't recommend using Telegram, btw, if you don't want your personal info to be stolen. :D
Koreans have their on streaming sites as well, plus Netflix, Disney etc, but it's not like they need anything, because they can watch anything live on TV unlike us. :D

But you have to pay for the better quality, it's easier to use VPN for Disney+ and it's cheaper too, but I hate to do that. I don't want to use illegal platform or workarounds to watch something legally when I'm already paying for Disney+. It's not like Disney can't make these Kdramas available, they just don't want to do it.
It's coming in the 2nd half of 2025! The bad news is that Disney+ want to buy it, so it means, basically no one can watch it. I'm seriously done with Disney. Why bother buying so many Kdrama if it's only available in 3 countries? Canada, UK and Australia. I hope Netflix will mess up their plans. You can say whatever you want about Netflix, but at least they know how to promote Kdramas, and everyone can watch it legally. I'm not paying a lot of money for streaming to use Warez or lame online platform with crap quality.
It's not a sad ending, but there are a LOT of sad moments, just like in real life. This show is about real life based on 3 generation of a family. I don't think it's as depressing as My Mister, but it's not a lighthearted show either. It's a lot of fun, and a lot of crying as well. 😅 But one of the best written show with strong female characters. I don't even remember when was the last time when every female character (male also) were this well-written. All the tiny details that you can only understand if you watch it multiple times adds a lot to it as well.
I agree!! I was waiting for plottwists etc but it just feels like a series about a life, like vlogs. Its good…
It "feels like a series about life", because that's exactly what the show is about. 😂 It's not a fantasy with big monsters or a typical romcom with the usual family drama and some random serial killer villain out of nowhere. This is a hardcore real life drama.
Hate to be the odd one out but I am 6 episodes in and I genuinely do not get how and why the score is that high.…
The rating is not high because of IU and Bogum. In 20 years, this is the first time I rate something 10/10. The writing, the directing and the acting is basically perfect. Just because there are others shows with similar concept, doesn't mean all of them are perfect too. It's not easy to write a poetic show like this about 3 generation of a family with a lot of characters. Just like Flower of Evil, this is one of the best written Kdrama I've seen in 20 years!
