Even though they are already married at the onset, I would describe the romance as a slow burn. They slowly grow to understand and appreciate each other, but the romance isn't the main focus.
Views on this may differ, but I think the main leads have good chemistry, it just isn't smoking hot as in some more romance oriented dramas.
I would describe it as relatively light fare, it has some good situational comedy that makes it quite entertaining.

The police guy following the suspect made so many mistakes which are probably also violations of proper procedure that it was obvious from the start that this would go wrong:
- When following the suspect (on his own) he shouldn't have engaged until there was back-up.
- There was no need to follow the suspect into that tunnel. He could' ve just closed/guarded the door to that tunnel.
- When pointing a gun at the suspect why would he get so close that the suspect could knock it out of his hands?
And his chief was no better. When finding an injured colleague the first action should have been a call to the ambulance. Where was his gun and why didn't he use it to incapacitate the suspect (rather than having a roll in the mud).
I have absolutely no problem with the fact that the writers wanted to kill off a character in this drama, but please, give us a half-way intelligent storyline!

As much as I love this series, I found episode 10 rather annoying and extremely unrealistic...
Yes, this is fiction, but that does not mean the writers have carte blanche to disregard common sense and standard police prodedures (which I'm sure aren't that much different in China).

I'm not sure how open Chinese directors are towards the actors' input. I know it is a frequent occurrence for Western actors to bring their own ideas to the director. For instance Viggo Mortensen usually brings his some of his own props or things that he reckons his character would like to own or wear.
However, given the hierarchical culture in China, I would expect film directors to be a lot less accommodating. Otherwise, would any actress behave in the usual childish way if she had a say in it?

This is the difference between the average actor and a great actor. The average actors can only shine in roles that are variations of themselves whereas a great actor can play roles that have absolutely nothing in common with their real personality.
I've seen quite a few of the goofy clips that show LYX cooking or playing games and I'm always surprised by the level of silliness that is so unlike any of his roles.

It's definitely not a comedy. There is some situational comedy due to the banter between the main leads and some other characters, but overall it is rather serious stuff. Despite sometimes bizarre sometimes tragic events it isn't overly dark though.
For me, it hits just the right balance between entertainment and suspense.

Yes, if you read a few of my posts you will see that I'm endlessly deploring the fact that even on MDL good dramas with real actors get a mediocre rating while truely average dramas filled with pretty boys who cannot act get a high rating no matter what.

The initially planned 58 episodes have been condensed into the 40 episodes that we have now (longer episodes of approx 51 min and some cuts).
I think when the cap of the no. of episodes was announced they had originally planned to do 2 parts and air them back-to-back (as was done with Love Like the Galaxy), but then another rule was introduced that if there are two parts, there has to be a gap of a few months between them. So eventually it ended up being 40 episodes and no 2nd part.

It's clearly a machine translation, but even for that it's really bad. I don't know what kind of crappy software they used to get these results. I just MTLed the first chapter of the book and other than a few minor issues it came out fine.
As this is a modern setting, the translation is a lot easier than for a historical or xianxia setting with all those flowery concubine titles, formal greetings and everyone referring to themselves in the third person.
