I think the biggest game changer on a general level would be to require all leads (whether solo or double) to have proven acting skills ( shown in previous supporting roles) and to audition for the role. I am sick and tired of seeing big budgets wasted on traffic actors that keep grimacing for 40 episodes and can’t even do their own lines while talented actors are scrambling to get cast in main roles or are forced to to take second billing behind said traffic. Another important point to improve drama quality is something that was mentioned in the new Tencent guidelines: the script must be finalised before the casting is done and contracts are signed. Reading this I finally understood why so many dramas go south in the second half. They only did the first half of the script to get the project launched.

Any of his performances are worth watching, however, often the overall quality of the dramas is somewhat lacking, especially when he is paired with newbie actresses (not his choice!) who can’t act their way out of a cardboard box. If you would like to see him as the ML in a different setting, I can recommend The Autumn Ballad (where you can hear his real voice), Royal Rumours or Be My Princess. One of my personal favourites is Legend of the Phoenix, but only for his performance. Again, the FL is the weakest link in ann otherwise strong cast and the plot goes to shreds in the second half. However, his fighting scenes in the last episode are epic!

Yes, I think he is slowly advancing towards better roles. It isn’t easy right now as there are fewer dramas made and he doesn’t have any agency support or powerful backers. Most of the works will probably only hit the screen next year, but we should at least get Whispers of Fate this year and I have heard that his role as Ghost Peony is quite memorable.

Jeremy continues his string of guest performances… Yesterday (12/08/2025), he appeared on the set of The Treasured Bajia Book. This drama is part of the tomb robber series that also includes Southern Anecdote ( same original author), however, it won’t be the same role.
😂😂😂 It’s like a fashion show with added plot. I really liked the green one. Very few people can pull off that kind of colour! The black and gold one was beautiful, but the colours are more conventional.

Same here! I am desperately waiting for any of Jeremy’s dramas to air. He has two guest appearances in the pipeline from last year (SLY and Hidden Shadow) but none of them are moving. And even without him, SLY would be an event not to miss because it is so different! All the recent dramas that I started watching (and never finished) feel so similar.

It’s not really a guest role in the usual sense. They phrased it as “special guest starring” in the announcement. It means that he is cast outside the billing order but the scope of his role can be larger than that of a normal guest appearance. By my calculation, he was present on about 40% of the total filming days which should result in a sizable amount of screen time, but of course, the end result depends on the editing.
The episode to be recorded on 14th August will have the cast of Blossoms of Power as invites: Flying guests: Meng Ziyi, He Yu, Xu Zhengxi, Fan Shuaiqi, Lai Weiming, Lin Ziye
That was only temporary. The whole thing was due to problems with his agency (although the official reason is now his father’s sickness). I think he found a compromise with the agency which seems to be that he will continue his contract until the end and they will stop forcing him to act in shitty dramas. He already announced his official comeback in September last year, but he only started filming again this year.
That was fast! 😂
