Not every women like romance. Some women can like romance regardless of the values that the genre displays. Many women have also internalized misogyny, otherwise conservatism would not be that high right now…that observation doesn’t remove them agency.
If you don’t get why putting marriage and traditional relationships first serve patriarchy you don’t get it. If you want to believe it’s my personal observation and conclusion you can too. Maybe you never read economics studies on the topic or whatsoever. Because nowhere in the world marriage has been invented with for ever love in mind, it’s an economic and social trade especially in East
Asian Countries. Concerning those other tropes that you believe are in favour of women because several men are after the woman. That is more a man fantasy about proven their own strength, value by fighting another suitor. And I would repeat myself again a reference to the animal kingdom. Is it really the woman who chooses or the man who defeats the other(s) that wins? Women being the main character of the story doesn’t have a big interest because they rarely have agency. Their are bound by family obligations, social expectations…Stories move when men are ok, ready, willing to. When women
confess first they get rejected…no story where women are focused on getting a man pass the Bechsdel test.

Anyone can love and crave for those stories everybody do whatever they want. I do not care to convince you (or anyone) of anything, anyone is entitled to his/her own opinion, judgement. I don’t comment over on comments I disagree with for that reason. Maybe I wasn’t

I am not taking part to the conversation you believe. I replied to someone else’s comment about position, power between male and female in fantasy romance.
You might confuse me with somebody else.
Thinking that a product target female audience and therefore serves women’s interests is a naive observation. Rarely things are really done with women ´ interest in mind. For example Women razors have been invented for Women but don’t serve any women’s interest. Contraception, women carry the burden when men are the major source of risk. Those tropes by their repetition are designed to keep women in check and maintain patriarchal values. The fact marriage for example takes such huge part in those stories is already a blatant evidence of patriarchy. In the context of Korea at first those romantic stories were liberating for women, allowing them to get access to reading and Hangul, providing entertainment but with time that literature has become to a certain extent a form of oppression as they mostly promote conservatism, modesty, status quo. Women that consume them either don’t have the tool to interpret clearly what they are reading/watching,
or are themselves traditional/conservative women and/or individuals who have
internalized misogyny …it’s without surprise places that are the more conservatives where those stories are the most popular.
Believing that observation is pure imagination is completely ignoring the different tools that exist such as the Bechdel test.
But again we aren’t taking part to the
same conversation so those exchanges are mute.

I replied to a comment on a specific subject, with a specific angle. the author of the comment and nor myself said misogyny was the only motivation of those tropes. Stating something that wasn’t said in order to discredit is already not an honest thought process.
Creation is a product of social and political environment, beliefs and knowledge thinking that people write fantasies, fictions without any ground or agenda it’s complete nonsense. Things aren’t created ex nihilo of everything.
Photography, music, literacy, film…are studied and interpreted with those elements in mind and the technics.
You can go on and on you are not gonna make me aligned with your opinion.

Hierarchy between genders is fully part of misogyny and result of patriarchal construction.
I fully disagree with the notion that romance is intertwined with hierarchy when studies show that people tend to more attracted to people that are similar to them.
When stories are build exactly the same way with the idea that women need to be saved, need to even be in a relationship to find happiness, where women are dependable on how attractive they are to men, women have to get married…are constructions of patriarchy. Authors that keep pushing those old narratives in 2026 are either naive, misogynistic or lazy. It’s absolutely possible to write stories without those old constructions and those easy tricks.

First misandry isn’t the antonym of misogyny.
Reversing those old fashioned tropes are not to me appealing either to feminists. The idea that love is some kind of competition seems archaic, like going back to animal kingdom.
Feminism is quest for equality between genders, ethnic origins, social classes, sexual preferences, people in need (sickness, handicap)…
Those secretaries that look like servants/slaves are so ridiculous. Why connecting romance to one’s social status we aren’t in 19 century where only rich people can build a future for themselves.
The whole idea that a man that express sentimental inclinations would be less strong is already a nonsense to me. Or complete ignorance of what psychology can achieve. Being oneself, free of outdated social constructions, aligned with good values and one’s emotion is the
real power.

I don’t think those two are strong enough to lead any drama right now. Both of them are quite bland and lack asperity and personality. Their acting is ok but nothing impressive and memorable.
But anyone can grow, improve…solid support case can also save the day… let’s see how this thing turn out.

I totally agree those scripts are full of misogynistic values and deprive women way too often of agency.
When they are powerful they are cold and mean. The naive sweet dumb woman cliché ends up be the only one that deserves love. Women are too often in position where they need to be saved, rescued. They are rarely in charge.
Love is only possible when the man is ok, ready…women in those stories are way too passive and submissive.
There are plenty of discussions that need to happen in Korea as they are unfortunately still very bad on anything related to gender gap. But in the same time their success in some parts of the world where women are still internalizing misogyny is also due to those old fashion values so it’s a tough spot for anyone that wants to
break the codes.

First episode was translated but the seven others weren’t. Sometimes in that bar what they’re saying is subtitled, sometimes not …but still a little hard for me I missed some words and not everybody had an easy and clear diction.
I felt the format was weird. On paper it looks like a good idea but the stories are uneven, messy and not well-structured. It felt also they overcomplicated things that had no business to be that complicated. All those people had very basic little issues that with a bit of maturity you should resolve in a day if you have some personality and judgment. The moments in that Modu bar were the worst, those part are like fictional variety show, the barmen were supposed to be some kind of love experts. But those guys had nothing remotely interesting to say about
relationships, basic stuff that anyone knows at 20 (in my region). (“You have to spend time together and eat together…that one of the top tier advice in that dumb bar”). They were going on and on, I wanted to shut them up already at episode 1…it’s like taking advice from your awkward friend that hasn’t been successful in anything.
I had this on my watchlist as my last Rowoon’s piece It took me a long time to find 하지만 it did not worth it.

Why the lawyer mother Young Na is entertaining the criminal Kang biso she is lacking taste, Pride, judgment and common sense? Is she that bored?

Hello. How are you? Does it happen to you often to flag issues, inconsistencies in movies and dramas. It does happen to me too and I know why.

I believe here they did not pick up their battle because the promotion material let believe there is a romance to be expected but in meantime no websites in all the languages I’ve checked has tag it as a romance. Always under business and fantasy

Like in Who are you 2008. I remember they managed to remove the spirit of the father during those moments but I remember also that some viewers felt it was weird as the father had also his secret girlfriend.

Am I tripping I was certain it was announced 120 episodes and now I see 140. Is it a joke? Did they got an extension?

…I am not tripping around April 23d the drama has been extended to 140 episodes. Bad idea they don’t have enough material for 140 episodes. We are getting some stupid subplots, some amnesia, some crazy car accidents…🤷🏽‍♂️🥴
Never seen a kdramas with a quality ending after an extension!

I was bored from A to Z. The story was not compelling. The acting had nothing special. The end would leave you with the feeling all of that for nothing…
There are way better drama out here …to watch only if you are a Kim Young Dae’s obsessive fan or a fantasy addict!
