You know what's worse than a psychopath? An idiot who is financially poor. I can't stand the behavior of Ro Na and her mom... like you have no money yet you go destroying other people's properties in a fit of anger, lash out and act all crazy WTF. Smarten up for God's sake! Of course you will be sued if your ass does that to a RICH person who HATES you. I don't even understand why she still wants to "prove" herself. These rich people are TROUBLE. Trying to mingle when they are such bullies will only lead to a life of debt, death or prison YET that school is so IMPORTANT that they would prefer such outcome.
Finished watching two episodes and l'm confused... if you are going to foreshadow a misforunate to the only likable character in the first 4 minutes, who the hell are we supposed to root for? Nobody is likaeable so far except the mom of the twins so who am I supposed to root for? Bae Ro Na, she is an annoying, entitled, tantrum brat, nobody would care if something bad happened to her.
I'll first start by letting people know my very biased thoughts that will influence my rating. I have a dealbreaker that ruins a show for me and Start Up, unfortunately, had it.
When a character whole purpose ends up being reduced to "winning the girl" thats when the writing automatically becomes very lazy. It's quite ironic considering Do San told his father he didn't want to become his "pride" yet a random girl he met for few months becomes his "dream", his "pride", his sole purpose in life... how do you expect to sell us a realistic romance when you bring toxic elements? This is obsession. It's not a healthy romance. "I'll love her forever" no. I only accept these words from married couples who been together through thick and thin, not this case. If someone rejects you and ends up with another that's a sign to move on (after you heal) so don't try to sell me this forever bullshit (ep 15)
Anyway, it's time for me to suffer through episode 16 so I can give a proper review on why this missed the mark.
I personally didn't like HJP at the start. I found him a tad childish and also insecure (Dosan a lot worse) but after being up to date, I realized he showed a pretty decent development out of everyone. He apologizes when he does wrong (based on his past, I can tell it's not easy), he reflects on his actions but remains consistent. He treats everyone the same without favoritism. A lot hate him for being "harsh" but I found it interesting. Tbh, I rarely have second lead syndrome because I hate it when they pursue the female lead tirelessly. However, he gives space and doesn't overstep his boundaries in the name of love. So I'm cheering for his happiness with everyone else.
With that being said, HJP fans who may still be in denial, take off the clown suit please. Even if he ended up with Dal Mi, I don't think they are a good match. Dal Mi, at the start, was portrayed as someone who reject men over letters (which she got over pretty quickly) and the fact she couldn't draw line when she had 3 years proves she is playing silly games. I wouldn't want HJP to mess up his happiness by being with someone indecisive
I can't read the comments because I'm not up to date yet but I just finished episode 11 and I'm about to pull my hair out from the frustration! Serve them right.
I don't know why this show is trying to play this whole, "HJP said they would fail but they proved him wrong!" ...no. No they didn't. They only proved him right. How can they prove him wrong when they TOOK HIS ADVICE to succeed? How? Every flaw he pointed out for them, THEY IMPROVED ON IT. You can have a teacher who excels at a subject but if they don't know how to TEACH it to others, does that mean they failed as a teacher? Absolutely. That was Samsan Tech, they were good but they never knew how deliver their projects that's why their mentor nitpicked their flaws. Instead, of taking it as a good advice, they were bitter about it when they knew NOTHING. They took his "facts" as if he was hating on them personally. Which is another issue I have. Yes, he is harsh with the way he brings up his points BUT he is like this to EVEYONE ELSE, INCLUDING THE WOMAN HE LOVES! He is not being harsh to them ONLY! Now look at what this did to them? They deserve it.
I'm so over the three guys . They all share the same brain cell.
I just finished episode 10 and I'm slowly starting to dislike Dosan. He refused Alex's offer before over a silly reason but now he accepts it purely to win over a girl? So he won't need the Second Male Lead's plan B? If insecurity needed a picture, it would be Nam Do San. Why didn't he accept to prove his worth? Why didn't he accept knowing his friends weren't paid for 2 years so it was time to move forward in life? Why didn't accept to help the business that everyone worked hard on? Why didn't he accept knowing his parents were his first investors so he should repay them back (for supporting his dream when he wasn't showing results) by succeeding and not leeching off of them? WHY NOT FOR A LEGITIMATE REASON? Until episode 9, I thought it make sense for him to get the girl but now the romance is shit. Worst couple of 2020.
This show successfully made it seem like it's mostly Dae Young's fault that they got divorced. And I hate that…
They definitely do. They did a lot of things in secret when in reality, all they wanted was for their family to appreciate their efforts. Sometimes honesty and appreciation is all it takes to restore a relationship. So I applaud them for, at least, conveying this very well.
I'm only on ep 4 so I don't know what happens next but I hate how da jung and shi ah said the dad wasn't always…
This show successfully made it seem like it's mostly Dae Young's fault that they got divorced. And I hate that because there were many moments were he actually tried so hard to please his family.
53 episodes in and I'm trying to make sense of this shit plotline. I got this far so I want to continue but 120 of this nonsense might actually kill me slowly. The DNA test didn't make any sense...
Lee Hyuk was my worst case. He literally had no redeeming qualities and was trash 90% of that show but, actor Shin Sung Rok, who I never cared about before, somehow managed to steal the spotlight on the later half of The Last Empress.
You know the irony about this is how Kim Ho Ran could have literally escaped jail time if she just let Eun Su go instead of constantly trying to drag her down. Eun Su, originally, wasn't seeking the truth. She just wanted to be with her daughter. If Kim Ho Ran didn't interfere, Eun Su may have continued her lie and lived her life pretending. But instead, Kim Ho Ran made her own downfall by poking what she shouldn't have. Irony works a different way.
I was and lowkey still am rooting for DY to fix his relationship with DJ. They sacrificed so much for each other for their relationship to just end up like this. 18 years of hardship and humiliation, they stuck with it for their kids. Their love and kids were the world to them so a replacement shouldn't be easy. But at the same time, I hate how they finalized their divorce. To go back after making such tough decisions will make me question why give up in the first place? They could have delayed it. Divorce ain't a child play so I don't like it when a reversal decision comes pretty quickly just because they realized how the other was doing while they weren't around to see it. I know the main message is about how "we take love for granted" so I'm not saying this because I didn't get the show.
I really cannot see Si -Ah falling for her dad....I know she doesn't know about it but we as an audience know…
I'm lowkey begging them not go down that road. However, so far it isn't cringey or awkward. I'm kinda hoping we will keep it up that way even if the outcome is not what I wanted.
Can I say I respect Yoon Sang Hyun for accepting this role? I heard a lot of actors refuse to accept roles that aren't main leads after they gain fame. While he is a "main lead", let's admit he gets less screentime here than side characters. Most actors wouldn't accept letting a upcoming actor take the whole spotlight. I really admire that about him.
