Yes but its a "Romance drama" grounded in realism, featuring the real struggles of the people and portray the society as its. Unlike a lot of trash out there, it doesn't give us a mythological fairyland, where literal angels reside and nothing wrong can happen here.
I prefer and love this kind of realism and judging from your name, we both know "How much meddling our mothers do" in our life from literal allotment of career (usually Dr or Engineer) at birth.

I see your point and I also see her point; they are completely different with only exception being presence strong FL but they are both currently airing, and it's inevitable avg joe's are going to make comparison.
both have the elements of "Romance and family" and to be honest with you, it's not that deep fam. People really don't give a damnn apart from few important tags like "Romance and crime" and I would even go as far as to say, majority only care about two things.

Unfortunately, its very realistic cuz only trash family can raise a useless son like SML. They think FL is coming after his money but in-reality, she was saving his ass. I don't know about the cultural norms in China but from where I am "With great power comes, great responsibility" and educated/Well off families tend to care alot about quality of the men. Heck majority won't budge if they don't have irrefutable evidence, he is not a dead beat !
The behaviour of Xin Jia Lin is akin to people who get rich very quickly and now they have the clout but still lacks the decency.

I personally believe a good written villain with "Grey characteristics" is more important, if not equal to the leads. Her MoM behaviour in this drama is ludicrous and nobody can take her seriously for even one second but FL decided to get engaged after listening to her order.
I know my berating is coming across as bit too harsh but you gota have reasoning behind your actions or some back-story, here we have nothing and she just makes unreasonable demands. That have capability to ruin her daughters entire life !

He literally called the uncle and told him, I am in then "SFL" received the call and uncle proceeded to force ML to break-up with FL, like they agreed in SML visit to Yi family house.

I unfortunately had the honour of watching ep20 preview and by the looks of it, FL was in hospital. So, FL mom may have been hospitalized again due to her heart condition and FL instead of asking rich ML/aka B.F for money/help, decided to betray him by selling the ancient town development plan.

Its Yang Zi drama, so I will give it at-least 10-12 episodes before making a final decision.

I am not just feeling mother attitude, I am from Asian family and we have meddling and strict moms but this is too far, racist and disrespectful to the entire continent.

1)The uncle cancelled the FL scholarship and called the Tyler back to China (knowing very well FL had called police on him for sexual assault), her cousin was outside knowing very well she followed the real Tyler into the lift and she got nearly raped by that Mfo. SML knows very well uncle planned and did that shit, he also knows FL uncle got his father in jail and she hate him for everything.
Still he joined hands with him and the "SFL received anonymous call from her SML with voice-changer" threatening him to visit him, let me reiterate it for you SML called SFL and then his uncle followed through with his plan. SML is part of the bloody plan !
2) When SFL father adopted ML from the centre, he legally changed the ML name and become his father on identity card. Hence he has the surname of "Lu", so ML is her legal brother but in older drama's they tend to keep the adoptive original name and don't introduce CCP in the mix. Now even if SFL manages to convince ML to love her, the relationship is not going anywhere cuz "Government" will hang them for incest.
3)I think you missed the part, where ML overwhelmly hated FL father cuz they pinned the ML/SFL/SML father into the corner with fake schemes, destroyed his company and the old man under the stress committed suicide in hopes he debt won't come to his children.....But FL father didn't forced ML father into the corner, it was the uncle, his wife and grandmother. FL father spent years in jail cuz he has forced too and grandmother promised to take care of his daughter and wife....the whole ordeal was discussed in the episode.
FL is about to betray in ep 20 and join his grandmother faction, she will leak the ancient alley plans !

I know its drama and we are supposed to have angst BUT com 'on, who in his right mind would do shit like this (joining hands with rapist faction to woo the victim).
from the trailer of upcoming episodes, it looks like FL also joined the "trash faction" and turned-on ML.

I know its about FL growth as an individual and Xu Kai is for eye candy but still even in that department, I am disappointed in the screenplay cuz I was hoping they would make her mother a "Grey Character" but nope she is straight up narcissist and gold digger with no morals.
The moment she knew SML is rich, her attitude shifted !

I am just baffled at the combination of "idiot mother and trash boyfriend", she should be happy FL father married her cuz not everybody is going to put up with "narcissist" idiot. Judging by the current trajectory, its gona be a long time for leads to date and possible the second half of the drama.

SML is a piece of shit, who had his answer from FL but still he decided to join hands with people. Who got FL nearly RAPED (Tyler) and forced his father to commit suicide, just cuz he wants to break up their relationship, lie to her and then had her under false pretence (aka Sexual assault).
Her sister is equally trash personality, who has obsession with "incest" (ML has his father's last name) and she wants to force him against his will. So that he can be with her.......I finally understand, why his father committed suicide.
FL also failed him, I hope trio don't force ML to follow his father footsteps and commit suicide !
