and its not Stockholm Syndrome, Moxi used to have dream of perfect husband in starting episodes and when She meet WJG, the picture of that men turned in-to him. She started assuming stuff about him as perfect husband. Its quite normal for a 17 year old and now when She is with CWD, same is happening again and now CWD is in her picture of husband.
She actually never liked WJG and it showed, when She promised to not force marriage contract on him and then easily sacrificed him to save FY, any loving person in C-Drama industry won't do that.
I believe her romance with WJG is Stockholm syndrome, developed after whole cousin marriage saga (when she was losing him) and she is just childish/amateur filling her picture of perfect husband with anything. Her feelings for CWD are kind of different cuz these developed after listening to his past (which is like her), realising he is a man of word and honour after whole letter saga and now, not actually forcing marriage consummation on her (which according to era was totally acceptable norm and CWD behaviour would be considered cowardly).
That's my opinion to believe in dvl of feelings over time and after experiencing life/death together but just like you, I want CWD to die like in novel and Mo Xi to follow him after that, WJG and FY can have each-other and I really hated their scene of considering the imperial edict. After all that shit-show, WJG is sill a coward.....man grow up now or you will always will be used.

CWD original target was FY, Moxi installed herself into the situation in attempt to become a hero and by doing so made this muddy mess. CWD would have married FY, moxi would have went to WJG.
CWD don't like FY and he won't try anything with her and eventually divorce her. FY knows how to act like a decent lady and hence CWD won't have to worry about those ministers. All this shit is happening cuz WJG (the idiot can't read a room and forced his hand) and Moxi forced CWD to marry him on the knife point and truthfully speaking, they are not even compatible with each other.
CWD needs a well-groomed lady like FY to establish his family name in future and CWD tends to be reckless and needs someone like FY(laid back) to hold him back, they balance each other perfectly.
WJG is a groomed idiot and coward, who needs someone brave/reckless and cunning like Mo-xi to help him "grow a pair of balls" to deal with situations, he is well groomed which can counter Mo Xi, un-lady like appearance and lack of empathy.

WJG is such a coward, loses the duel, runs away and then tries to use arrows, instead of facing him. I am saying it for years, that he is an idiot and who has proven his incompetence by losing from position of strength.
Wu family on the other hand has decided to use the disease as a weapon against CWD but doing so will kill majority of city population.

He died in the novel and I was hopeful in the beginning cuz his character seems to be different here but only 8 episodes are left now and only way to wrap up this mess is by killing.
Mo xi character has not shown any character development and WJG mentioned in last episode, he will fight CWD to recover her. So, I suspect war will breakout and Mo Xi will back-stab CWD, eventually leading to his death. I sincerely hope, it doesn't go down like this and he dies on frontline with honour but that's what story is leaning towards.
Mo Xi was also supposed to die, according to the novel but she is not pregnant, so they can't play the BFY and WJG raising their kids arc. So, they will keep her alive and she will sleep with sister husband.

CWD is resisting cuz as we know, WJG have no control over his own army and Wu lang (whatever his name is) has sent 50,000 reinforcements. So when WJG will go after CWD, he will die in the siege but Wu Yin will betray him the moment their objective is achieved and hand over the iron mines to these corrupt officials (they will overthrow the emperor)
CWD original plan was to use the mines to forge the weapons and raise new armies to fight against these corrupt officials, then he would fight his way to the emperor and present the evidence of his innocence. He believes Emperor is kidnapped by these corrupt officials and held hostage. He has to save him, but the only way to do that is by neutralizing these officials and for that he needs weapons.
in the meantime, he will toy around with these officials to buy some time for weapon production/ don't get attacked by them.

Okay then what does CWD have growing up?
We have seen his story but still he has moral compass and tries to save people and bring prosperity to common people. He is a general but still he tries his best to avoid war cuz it will cause the suffering of common people.
Moxi had FY growing up and the roof over her head, what does CWD had.....absolutely nothing, he begged and worked to get there. There are a lot of unfortunate souls in the world and if everybody started behaving like her, society will collapse and chaos will reign in streets. Everybody has justification for their crimes, even the bloody bastard Hitler had justifications, Japanese had justification for their crimes.....but that doesn't mean if some people fuck you over, you counter fuck over everybody that comes in close contact with you.
That's what Mo xi is doing, no loyalty, no honour, simple plain manipulation and I have not said any out-rageous thing here. There is a simple law of universe,

You can make all sort of excuses to justify Moxi behaviour but amount of people, she has hurt due to her schemes are bitt to much. Just cuz you were not trying to harm anybody, doesn't mean people were not harmed.
She has 2 options
WJG = useless coward
CWD = a man that has helped her way to much and which she will exploit to bitter end.
So best ending would be CWD death and she paying the price for her schemes.
