😢 Yun Shen is indeed a quite pitiful character, just like Qi Yan, most of the time he had to suffer the pain from his illness & on top of that, Yun Shen (in the novel) also need to endure the pressure from his mother to meet her demand.

His mother is quite overbearing & mentally unstable at times yet she only have Yun Shen to depend on, so there's no other option for him except feel much obliged to her :'(

Luckily in the drama we'll get to see the healthy, lively Yun Shen before the accident took place, although it'll be heartbreaking to see the stark difference between his former self to the current depressed self as well.

Oh, they aren't wuxia? I thought they are as for a drama that isn't supposed to be a wuxia, they're spending much screentime on the palace politics/ historical (which I'd love to if they're done well, but this one fell short).

I love slowburn drama too but for a slow burn drama, I'd expect them to spent more time on the main leads interaction to show their growing bonding, which I don't get either as the ML went away most of the time & it's even unclear what things the FL shd learn from the ML & they spent too much screentime on the side characters that I don't even find interesting.

I thought they'll be more fully pack & all rounder given they only hv 24 ep, but since you said things will pick up by ep 7, I'll try to stick through to that ep & see from there, thanks!

Unpopular opinion, I just started this & currently at ep 4 but I find they're so slow like things are barely happening tho they're pleasing aesthetic wise. Will it gets better later? On which ep the story picks up?

Is it common for cdrama to hv a slow starter like this? I felt this way with ALP too & it makes me appreciate more drama like Love and Redemption & Stand by Me which hook me from the get go with manythings unraveling from the start.

He does, since in the novel one of his leg is amputated, he's either use his wheelchair or his fake leg (I don't remember what was the term for it 😅) to walk when he had a better condition.

But from the trailer I think they keep FYS leg in the drama (not being amputated), so maybe FYS condition in the drama can be healed. They seem to make the drama to be lighter than the novel 🤭.

FYS suffered from a fatal car accident that led him having one of his leg being amputated & severe internal organ damage that forced him to hv undergone a lot of surgery.
He's in his lowest & darkest point of his life, until ZJ came to him (FYS friend, Leo brings ZJ to be his part timer to help).

Her personality is like a ray of sunshine who gives the warmest light to the depressed FYS. Little by little south wind blows his heart, he's opening up & they fell for eachother. FYS help ZJ, always be there for her & they had for eachother in that foreign land.
As ZJ reached her 21st birthday, FYS proposed to her & they're married at Heidenberg, with his aunt present as their witness (FYS doesn't get along with his mom who stayed in China).
Their marriage is a bliss, sweet & they live happily until a man who's obsessed at ZJ can't accept her being married to a disable man & beated FYS while making his attempt to assault ZJ infront of him.

FYS almost died from it & his mother was furious at ZJ and forced FYS to seperate with her (FYS mom is quite a lot to handle).
That accident make FYS realized his limidity, how with his current condition, he can't protect her & letting her go is the best option for her, so they got divorced.

Years passed & ZJ was about to get married when Leo came to her, ask her to visit FYS as he's having a serious condition, later she learns from Leo that even when they're apart, FYS went to various place risking his life, to save/ help her.
She can't let FYS go, so then she came to him for another chance (& cancelled her wedding).

FYS condition is kinda always in the brink of death that forced him to push her away everytime. Later, ZJ finally decide to let him go, tho both of them know how they love eachother deeply, there's a heartwrenching conversation when ZJ asking multiple question to FYS if he can come & help her, do everything, anything for her and all his answer is yes, except for one, when she ask him if they can be together.
She realized that she can't forced their love and be a burden to him. & it's enough for her to know he's alive, living in the same world with her. She then moved to Suriah, as a medist, and while being there, she keep sending FYS her letter, until she went missing & suffer from a mental trauma.

FYS can't stand still & realized how precious it is to lived & be together with your loved ones no matter how long or short it is, so he rushed to see her.
He make up his mind & determine to cherish his moment & living his life to the fullest with ZJ & make his effort to do so.
They lived together at the end, it's a happy ending after all hardship they've gone through.

True, me too, thought I was prepared for his death before watching the final ep, but turnsout I was ugly crying throughout the ep 😂
The last ep is a tear jerker & Qi Yan really has the saddest life 😭
I'm just relieved to see he got the chance to see the lantern festival w/ Yu Er tho it's shortlived 🤧

Yes, I guess he can't refuse to drink his daily poison & when he got the chance to bribe the eunuch, it's already far too late.
I was thinking he seems to hv suffered from lung infection since he keeps coughing blood but it doesn't occur to me that it was came from his overdose highmed, poor Qi Yan, had to suffered both external & internal injury as very well mental & mind, hence why he feel so tired & abused 😭

True, ahaha, judging by the novel, I think SWKMM is pretty angsty as well, so they surely need to give us more candies to make up for it 🤣

After they defeat QLZ, Qi Yan pass the throne to Prince Guang before he passed away on his shoulder.
The Late emperor's edict is actually just a tool to distract/ divert QLZ attention so that he won't get targetting Qi Yan after succeeding his throne.
Yan Zhi passed away after saving her sister, Yu Er/ Ruo Ling.

So much things happening after ep 17 onwards & the suspense, power play with numerous counter strategic battle/ chess play is really good & complicated to summarized it down, so it's actually better if you can experience it yourself, but it's up to you

Totally, it's heartbreaking but we know it's inevitable & Qi Yan had foresee his ending right from the moment he took his path 😭 sad but beautifully done indeed.

But before she & Han Ding reach the Palace exit gate, the bells ring, announce the death of their Emperor.

Han Ding kneeled down on the street & gave Qi Yan his last bow, while Yu Er continue her rides heading outside the palace (with tears filling her eyes).


Later, Yu Er shows us her brightest smile.
Her smile, is to fulfill Qi Yan's last wish for her.

He can not be saved, as Qi Yan had to consume a highly dose of medicine which he himself order the divine healer to gave it to him, to counter the poison QLZ gave him everyday to muddle his mind. But it's damaging his own body.
So Qi Yan substitute/ gives his remaining life for the chance of Xing empire.
His organ & lungs has been too far damaged to survive.

Cheng Yi gave his last farewell to Qi Yan & wish him a better life in his next life also confirms everything.

Gosh, I'm really sad to hear this. No matter what their reason is, boycotting a drama of their own fav actor is ridiculous! These kind of act is toxic, esp if they divert their hate to the co partner that has nothing to do with it.

They need to stop calling themselves their so called fans if they do that, what kind of fans bring down their own bias by showing this kind of disrespectful attitude & wishing their very own drama to flop by boycotting? Only the toxic one does!

One drama consist lots of hardwork & dedication from all the person involved, including their fav actor, all the production team, staffs, actors & each of them represent persons that has nothing to do with the target of their hate, just how stupid it is!
