I have a question for people who have completed this drama and also A Dream of Splendour. May I know in your honest…
I persevered for 20 episodes and finally gave it up when Love Like the Galaxy came along. I found A Dream of Splendor hard work to be frank. Draggy and talky is what I would say. The leads' romance was fine and probably the highlight of the show but I didn't care for any of the other characters in the show. Apart from the male lead and his father I didn't like how the male characters were written. I like the music and the tea aspects but the actual big story felt like it's been done before. On paper the subject matter should be interesting -- the status of pariah women -- but the execution and storytelling seemed very familiar and laboured.
For some reason I can't fall in love with Chen Xiao like everyone else seems to be able to. :D
Thanks so much. Love your ramblings. I hate noble idiocy as much as you do but bec my mind has been programmed…
It didn't occur to me immediately. It was only when I was trying to join all the dots that the light bulbs came on. Anyway it's just my opinion but I think it's consistent with his more recent trajectory.
My thoughts on both Part 1&2 (*minor spoilers*):This is probably the best written cdramas I have ever watched.…
As someone who also loved the show as a whole, I also thought that they dropped the ball with the last 5 episodes. While it's not the worse ending I've ever experienced in a C drama, it is a shame that they couldn't maintain the same level of quality all the way to the end. I don't think that all of the problems in those last 5 episodes were only due to editing issues. It's clear that the writing also took a bit of a hit.
I also gave it 9/10 because the rest of the drama was so much fun.
Well written. I have that T=shirt too. :) Forgiveness is a funny thing. It takes a level of maturity too really…
I agree with pretty much everything that you've written. It's what I've said as well. I understand where both of them are coming from which is more or less what I said in my blog post. It's not that neither of them are right or wrong. They both made mistakes and it's important to acknowledge that. The reason Zisheng confessed that he had no regrets abandoning Niaoniao is because he felt really guilty for abandoning her and he didn't want to be forgiven by her. That is his most serious mistake. The only lie that mattered. Her mistake (and everyone else's) was accepting that as the truth.
It could be true too that at the time he did it, he didn't think he had any choice so there was no regret if it meant he could protect the Chengs. Of course later in Episode 55 he finally said that he had already regretted leaving her out of the loop when he saw her at Ling Yi's mansion. It's a little bit confusing because these last 5 episodes have so many gaps.
What I don't agree with is the "divorce". I just don't think it was something that was warranted under the circumstances. Both of them gave up so easily on each other which tells me that the foundations weren't very firm in the first place. I know that they both made all kinds of promises to each other in the past. She was disappointed in him and he was disappointed in himself for disappointing her.
You have such a way with words and I appreciate your thoughts on different aspects of how the characters have…
Thank you for understanding so well what I'm trying to communicate. I appreciate it so much. I don't mean to be controversial but I find myself taking contrarian positions apparently. Things that are commonsensical to me don't seem to be for other people. :D
It could be something to do with the fact that the number of episodes were cut down by about 10 episodes so maybe…
I've heard this but I've yet to see this claim that there were 66 episodes slated substantiated because the show was pretty decent up to 51. Maybe there were a few more episodes that didn't make the final cut but 66 is 7 hours of television -- too many to be believable.
Yass one of the queens has spoken. So glad you're done because I've been so curious for your thoughts as I took…
Sure, I noticed it but it's not really sufficient especially when the earlier episodes make such a song and dance about what he did to her. To me it's not just about her healing but also an acknowledgment that she was being unduly obstinate. That might not be a problem for others but it's a problem for me as an older viewer.
I agree that the show kind of imply certain things with hints of things here and there but the pacing is definitely off at the end.

LOL. She lost her touch after being stuck in the palace for so long. ;)
Look, I think all the crazy women were just there to remind Niaoniao that she's in love with Zisheng and is missing him. :D It's to nudge things along while she's digging her heals in. Without Lou Li and Wang Yanji's intervention, where would they both be. /sarcasm
I don't have a problem with personality changes after what happened either. Even less so for Zisheng. All I want is for them to do forgiveness properly and the healing that results from that. Because for me that is a crucial part of strengthening their dynamic. They both made mistakes in the aftermath of the revenge and it would be nice to just get some acknowledgment of that.
There should be re-edit version later (director finished last episodes couple days before airing, CGI and edit…
Honestly they should have taken their time to release Part 2 and the final episodes. I much prefer a polished product to something that feels like second rate fanfiction.

Thanks so much for following me all this time. I'm sure you didn't agree with everything that I said but thanks for taking the time.

Slowly but surely I'm getting there. Thanks for looking.
