TBH I would be very disappointed in writing if they chose second route since clearly Ye family is to blame while YL and mom tried there absolute best and lost their clan too because of it. So if they do the 2nd route it wont make sense for someone as logical as ML. I pray the writing remains organic and fresh like we have seen until now.

When Ye Li is disassociating, she appears as her imagined friend/maid who helps her regulate her emotions when they grow turbulent. e.g. when she is sad, afraid, and feels overwhelmed, the maid (as imagined) appears. When she is triggered, her brain imagines her safe person aka maid to help her be more regulated. It is a way of some severely traumatized people's brain to protect themselves and ensure survival of the said person.

To be fair she is not unstable, she is traumatized. They are not the same thing. Traumatized actions can have justification e.g. why she wants to kill her grandma in split second but then she was emotionally regulated by her hubby so she let it go after much mental struggle.
