This follows most palace drama scripts. The FL usually plays hard to get to completely capture said Emperor's heart. Empress Dowager has essentially declared war in episode 29 and tricked ZZJ into saying FL is ordinary and wants to put her in her "place" She has a mission to stop all those countless deaths that are avoidable and its personal since her mother's death could have been avoided too. FL states in that episode something along the lines of "its ok she starts from nothing it's going to be long journey but she will not give up" So she is playing the long game of getting him and in turn having power to make those changes.
I feel like concubine guo didn't kill the emperor. I'm not gonna jump to conclusions yet as to who it was but…
I too believe she didn't kill the Emperor. Empress is trying to pass it off as she meant to kill me but Emperor drank it instead. I still don't believe Concubine Guo would poison her so openly. I think they would have made their marriage official if YYF hadn't told his man to deliver that message at that hour. YYF looked so sad before he was handed the letter, I bet in a cut scene he had just seen ZZJ go to her room or something and was happy to have them be interrupted. Now emperor is dead I wonder if there is a mourning period and will have to wait a while.
ZZJ is probably upset in the preview because the mourning period is over and she was already fast asleep with one of the concubines not caring that he might come over. (just speculating, thought of this point as I was responding lol.... we will see on Monday)

Not sure what episode you are on, the yyf and yzj dynamic is the way it is because of how yyf was against the Food Office, mixed with how FL helped YYF in the past not sure if FL remembers that part yet. YYF likes FL, but FL keeps him at a distance and doesn't allow him to have a close relationship with her.
SYH seemed to have turned on FL when she kind of, ((kind of because it wasn't an outright rejection of her but I guess she felt rejected)), chose to be closer to Zi Peng and now its a competition to be best in the Food Office. There is power with being the person controlling the Food Office. That's my take away with bad subs lol...

When he hurried along to confront his wife about all these things and was met with the cousin, that was it for him. He wrote her off and is more concerned with carrying out is grandfather wishes for the country, he doesn't think about her like that anymore. His mother wants grandkids and all but those things are not top of priority for him right now. I think to some extent he tried to reconcile with his wife since when she punished Zi Jin in that episode she said she had won. But its probably too late for them to properly reconcile. He was actually going to get FL out of the palace by helping her get married and carry on with his duty.
Describing him as broody seems to narrow what he actually is like. In the cases he is sad, it's understandable for him to be sad. Not sure how he is supposed to match his heart in those instances?
