Cold, iQiyi, cold! I understand my denial for a new episode didn't work, but you could have at least updated the episode previews to include English subs. You usually do that about around 7:30.
Episode 26 - What is this a rock concert for peace? I love the symbolism of DFQC using the ice zither his father repaired to heal history. And I always knew that the God of War was going to bring peace by ending war, not perpetuating it.
After watching Episode 23&24, I still dont understand how Jieli is still breating and laughing and has not been…
I think we need a Jieli Appreciation Post. I am not certain if I like her or not, but she is utterly necessary for XLN's personal development. She needs female companionship. DFQC can't just kidnap another fairy for her - that would only create more problems on several levels. There does not seem to be Moon Tribe nobility and the wives or daughters of the Northern and Southern Kings would not be appropriate, because that is a political game XLN isn't ready to play yet. Palace maids don't work either. She needs a lady-in-waiting.
And that woman needs a grey morality. The very reasons we don't like Jieli are why she is good for XLN. She may acknowledge authority, but she works said authority to her benefit. Her loyalty does not come fast or cheap - she needs lots of evidence i.e making hard calls using critical thinking over blind loyalty. She is slow to trust, a good model for XLN as she is learning to reassess who (people) and what (history, facts, perspectives, beliefs) to trust. I fully acknowledge that XLN's grey morality and Jieli's grey morality are different types and different flavors, but they are both grey moralities. And XLN needs a companion that is a subordinate/equal (lady-in-waiting) that is a female with a grey morality.
DFQC is royalty and is grooming XLN to be his queen. He understands the need for such a relationship (Shangque). He most likely has a different agenda when it comes to her lady-in-waiting having a grey morality (i.e. subtle conversion), then the agenda the story and character development demand Jieli have grey morality for. He also understands how rare a grey morality is, so he is willing to put up with A LOT for such a rare commodity. Also, XLN wants her and he will give her just about anything. You will also notice he becomes infinitely more tolerant of Jieli once she becomes XLN’s true friend and is genuinely earning her keep. He even turned to her out of bewilderment for some clarification in the cave scene.
Now that you mention it, I can't believe i miss its significance. Kudos to the director btw !
And they know who works for what they are doing. Apparently the screen-writer said WHD was who he was writing the part for and wouldn't accept any other suggestions when others told him it wasn't a good idea.

One of my favorite things that the director paid attention to was where everyone stands i.e. blocking. It really made me appreciate DFQC's trust issues and his subtle creativity even it comes to dishing out burns sans Hellfire.

Oh, the director (2nd project!!) does tons of this stuff. I am going to follow him and the screen-writer (1st project!!!) I can't believe this drama is at the genesis of their careers and hasn't been refined over a few decades!
When you are using the outfits in the 2 upcoming episode previews combined with the theatrical trailers to piece together which scenes are happening in what order.
