XLN: "Are you really not angry with me?" DFQC: Baffled, panicked and realizing his past approach isn't the best face. Me in the Audience: *Cough* *Cough* XLN: "You need to do something intimate, that way he knows you forgive him." Insert re-enactment of pavilion scene - he smiles, she increases smile with her fingers, him speaking in soft, gentle voice - now this time don't cut the scene because it is "too cheesy". And Action!
Can I just say that I hope we keep rocking the casual intimacy they are displaying in the mortal realm? They are always standing near each other, with their bodies turned toward each other. She held his hand when he was about to use magic to find Bone Orchid. It truly belies their feelings for each other. More natural touching please!
Am I the only one who loved when DFQS puts the flower in orchid's hair in ep20? He was so romantic effortlessly😍
Honestly, the reason I loved this scene was because he could have used this as an opportunity to remove her hairpin - yet despite the confusion and harsh truths happening, he still respected her boundaries and the concept of consent toward her thoughts. I find this even more potent given how disappointed he looked earlier in the episode when they were watching the dance and for a moment he thought she was going to remove it and let him hear her thoughts.
ya ya. and i love it when he casually say i piggyback u. swoon.and are u guys really convince when he says how…
It's like in Epi. 9 when he flexes by showing her even his ride is more badass than the heavenly immortals. He is trying to romance her in a way that makes sense to him: display his strength.
1. Am I the only one who remembers that DFQC already saw that XLH will be married to Chang Heng and saw her Goddess…
#3 - Okay, something very specific is up with the wedding and I think I figured out PART of it, however unlike you I am far too lazy to type out my entire thought process, so I will just say this: pay attention to the backgrounds of scenes in the trailers esp. the piggy-back scene, giving CH back his dragonfly stone scene and a few others.
#4 - I am not certain if I am splitting hairs or if there is a translation issue, but I think I disagree with you on this one. During the discussion later in the episode he says "I promise I won't lie to you again. But you don't lie to me again, okay?" She agrees and he acknowledges her agreement. So, they did admit they were lying to each other, that they were going to continue lying to each other (at least for a little while) about this matter, but that they would not do this again. Thoughts?
OMG! I figured out Xun Feng's Ring! Every time this kid is on the screen he is playing with his ring in this annoyingly smug way. His ring is just so obviously an object of pride and fascination for him and honestly it is a rather distinctive stone and OMG are those fragments of the Chengying Sword that Shangque found the exact same color?!
My guess? Remember she HAS to marry CH. The Destiny Tree said so. If DFQC is losing control of his hellfire, she may try to broker an alliance treaty through marriage to protect him and the Moon Tribe. (This breaks my heart on a whole other level, because at this moment she doesn't know where the Iron Maiden thing is. Which means at some point he will tell her and then she will use it to erase her love of him, so she can go through with the marriage alliance to save him.)
I’ve seen the video you mentioned. DFQC was poisoned at that time and I assume XLH tried to save him (for whatever…
I think I figured it out! Remember how her blood revived the Memory Loss River flower? It must have something to do with her hidden identity as the Goddess of Healing. Something this show is EXCELLENT at doing is dropping things that become pertinent later. Such as the heart-blocking hairpin, the Old Gods, how RH & CH were going to kill DFQC and save Orchid when they had switched bodies/her growing him an Orchid with her primordial spirit (I am guessing), Shangque saying Orchid had made him forget the difference between the two tribes (I am guessing), etc.
I would like to say something about DFQC and XLN's communication:
They share when they resent each other, their doubts of each other, their hopes, their gratitude, how much they value each other and are priceless. They are sarcastic, angry, frightened of being hurt, hurt when they are hurt. I can see someone accusing them of playing games or being immature/reactionary, but they actually have insanely healthy communication and that is their foundation. It is the source of their unusually strong bond and why they trust each other.
It is why she can throw herself (with him) off of Arbiter Hall (Ep.8). It is why he can drink drugged tea, just to learn what she is thinking (Ep. 8). It is why a man in his position can say he does not care what her true form or identity is (Ep. 19). It is why he can let her wear the heart-blocking hairpin (Ep.15). It is why she can argue he came for her not her and the Destiny book (Ep. 15).
It is why their so-called betrayals are not betrayals, (like when he uses Jeili to get information about the Destiny book (Ep. 19) or when Orchid drugged herself with the emotion-amplifying potion (Ep.14)). They may use each other to get what they want, disobey each other or violate each other's boundaries - but in a bizarre and beautiful twist, they tell the other their motives and when they will "betray" the other. Even when they lie to each other they tell the other and hold no resentment over it.
And it has been an absolutely fascinating pleasure to watch what true trust and genuinely healthy communication look like. Anyone who thinks those two things grant a conflict-free fairy-tale is a fool. Healthy communication is not some gentle unveiling where everything is resolved with perfect words and problems just dissolve. Gaining someone's trust is not a sweet victory that turns life into a daydream. But they are potent, they are beautiful and they (DFQC and XLN are partners)
