That's definitely true. I just don't get how people can enjoy this stuff when it's so deflating and depressing. But to each his own, I guess! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

There are rarely Kdramas that make ANY characters saints; unrealistic characters? Yes, but saints? Have yet to see one. That would be storytelling suicide. But you don't have to make characters THIS flawed to be interesting. And besides, what do these types of characters do for us? Make us feel like the world is a sad, terrible place full of messed up people? We don't need movies to show us that; if we're not buried in a hole than we're seeing it every day. Why watch hours and hours of people's sad, twisted "real life"? I'm good, thanks.

Wait, what?! This sounds disgusting and traumatizing! This is why I don't like Netflix originals... definitely gonna pass on this one.

Anyone know why a female actress was cast to play the male Emperor of Northern Qi? Is it a plot point?

Yeah, good advice. Recently wasted my time hoping this "rom-com" drama would improve towards the end...it just…
For me personally, I also found that my tastes didn't align with the ratings for certain genres over and over again. For instance, I'd watch a drama that a lot of people liked but I didn't, and then I started to see that there were patterns to the ones I disliked that the majority of MDL users rated higher (than I would have rated it), and the pattern was the genre or type of Kdrama.

I've realized I don't really like most ghost/afterlife dramas, office dramas, zombie/horror, and some types of slice of life, etc. That also helped me calibrate my research when using MDL to find dramas I might like, as I also realized my taste wasn't consistent across ALL dramas based on ratings, just certain genres. Then I'd calibrate accordingly, taking comments on the pages into account, too. I find there are also patterns there, too, if I get a good sample size. ☺️

Ah, got it. So you just mean discussions in general.

I guess we frequent different threads since I've had plenty of great convos with users. There can be a good deal of gushing about beautiful actors, but I still think there's quite a lot of variety in types of posts and kinds of users, even within the romance-lover crowd. πŸ˜‰

Title Signal
I equally liked both. I think they're the only crime kdrama I've rated a 10.
Stranger is definitely a bit different, as it's less about the chase and more about the morals/big picture of the "bad guys" involved and what caused them to slip from good to bad. I found that commentary really fascinating. So in that sense it explores more profound nuances. I get how it would feel different! (I also loved the ML and FL in Stranger; they were so awesome and they felt different and refreshing).

Have you seen Stranger 2? Not quite as good as Season 1 because it has similar themes so it feels less innovative, but still also highly interesting and enjoyable!

Tunnel is good, too, just maybe a tad bit dated. I enjoyed it a lot as well even though at the time most opinions I read seemed to think Signal was the superior show. They're more similar (Tunnel and Signal) than Signal and Stranger (but Stranger is also one of the best! The second season is also solid.).

I'm just really skeptical about how/where this will be filmed. Is most of it in space, with them floating around in spacecraft? I just can't picture that sticking the landing... 16 Episodes set in SPACE? There's no way, unless they make this 100% sci fi and have made-up technology and a gravity switch. Even then, I can't see how they'd make this a convincing drama... 🧐

The synopsis does not help, either.

In theory, I am excited to see Min Ho's next project, but I'll give this one some time to air before I venture over to see how it's working out. πŸ˜‰

Haha, yes! That's why I couldn't help saying it. 🫒 This user reminds me of @mooc and says similar things to him; that was always his favorite line to harp.

Unfortunately, I don't bother blocking them because I use the app and I'll see their posts regardless. Usually the contrarians show up after it's done airing, but you're right, so far, this page has been pretty free of them for the most part!

This drama is also so unrealistic that people can't but see how any comparison to reality is a bit of a stretch anyway. πŸ˜‹ This reminds me a lot of the feel the K2 gave when I was watching it.

You forgot to add the favorite shtick about how the ML is a pure virgin and so indulges the female users fantasies. πŸ™„

Also, if people only watched media with actors/musicians/entertainers who were good, upstanding, moral people, there would be no media to engage. No matter how you slice it, no matter how successful agencies are at making their actors/singers/celebrities look like good people, I always assume they're nothing like their image. A bunch of teenage boys I know were completely shocked to see a leaked list of their favorites celebrities and rappers exposed for being at parties that engaged in elicit, illegal activities with trafficked women. I was like, "Um, guys, why are you shocked? These are celebrities we're talking about."

For the majority of people, this equation checks out (cause who cares about integrity these days? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ All you need to do is LOOK like you have it.): lots of fame + lots of money = poor life choices, even if they're mostly secret life choices that most people will never know about because they are carefully hidden. So, to me, in order for someone to be consistent (if they're going to follow your logic) they shouldn't be engaging any media. πŸ’β€β™€οΈ Either watch none of it or just accept that the image of people you're seeing on-screen AND off-screen is always a man-made facade that, when stripped away, will expose broken humans in varying degrees of badness in their beliefs, perspectives and lifestyles.

Sometimes the facade slips for our beloved celebrities giving us a bad taste in our mouths, but that's not exposing exceptions, it's exposing the rule.
