Why is that? Trying to see if I should add it to my watchlist.
Oh... so the leads don't end up together? Those endings are indeed a bummer. I wish it ended better because I love Zhao Lusi and I would like to watch another drama with her. π
Question! In Episode 4, why does the 3rd Brother not want to return to the palace and why did he leave it to begin with? Why are they trying so hard to get him back? I'm struggling to grasp what is happening. π
Even though this was the reddest ML flag in a long time, at least there's hope for Netflix. They've managed to…
True! I agree with you. I continue to be dissatisfied with Korean media's partnerships with Netflix; I know some love it, but that's exactly why I gave up on Western TV to watch Korean content, but there's becoming less and less of a difference and I'm so bummed. π£ I typically like Korean Drama output minus artistic involvement from Netflix (or any other Western streaming platform (e.g. Disney, Hulu, Amazon, etc.)) better.
Best chemistry ever who needs skinship when holding hands at a bus stop gives you butterflies
I mean, it had skinship, too, but it was an agonizing scene because at that point he was dying and he knew it (and WE knew it), but she didn't. It was awful! π
There is no end of misery to ML He was miserable in all aspects But i felt FL mood swings & his liver failure…
Yes, I felt the same about all of this. π The POOR MAN. I
You couldn't even think their intimacy was any kind of relational culmination cause the ML was literally on his last breath; that scene wasn't romantically satisfying at all. It felt cruel to me and so badly timed.
Hi Eleison! Great to see u hereπ. TTJ did grow/improve in the show.. Tho My fav character was the Ancient demon…
You're amazing, haha, this is such a detailed response; all super helpful!! I feel much more informed now. Wow. π₯°
One last quick question for now; when TTJ 2.0 would "eat" other demons' energy to gain more power, that's making him become more evil, yes? Even though the demons are, as you say, mischievous and cause trouble, that's really no different than killing a human because that's not the way to deal with them (not a humane way of doing so, at least). And it's kind of poisoning him/strengthening him since he's killing to enhance his own power?
I wanted to scream every time he did that it was so awful. π
Is umbrella sharing scene mandatory is every single kdrama?
For sure a Kdrama staple. π Just like the FL tripping (the audience hearing a "whooosh") and the ML catching her fall, a beach and/or camping trip, and the 2ML never getting to be with the FL.
I wouldn't trust it to be a rom-com Kdrama if it didn't have these formulaic cliches. π
If you grow up reading Chinese mythology and folk tales, you will know that they all have sad endings. It is cultural.…
Haha, will do, thanks for the advice! And thanks for the explanation about evil.
I just finished BoY (a wuxia or fantasy drama, I think? I'm still learning the genres) and it had all that packed world-building you described. π I enjoyed it, but you're right, it was a LOT to keep track of. Every new character that was introduced had to have another character exposit what new martial arts technique the new character used so the audience knew what was going on, and it got a bit distracting. π
For constume dramas, I've seen LLTG (loved Zhao Lusi, and it had glorious BGMs), The Double, BoY NIF 1 and 2, and I'm trying to watch TTEOTM right now (got a bit stuck) and another one set during the 30's or 40's which I can't remember the name of and which I thought was just okay. I liked all of these, maybe The Double and NIFs the most. What are a few of your favorites you'd recommend (and I'll keep in mind the sad endings caveat π). I want to watch the The Mysterious Lotus Casebook, but I don't think I can access it on the platforms I use and I don't use illegal sites. I also want to try Joy Of Life, but if I remember I might have a similar issue with platforms...

I think the fantastical ending was that robot Nam Shin was saved and, through sheer willpower and love, became human and sentient.
Much of the mechanics of this make no sense if you think more deeply about it, but it's a fantasy, so I just went with it. π
