I just do not understand the roles of the two young actors in this drama. for me it looks like there are 2 stories…
They’re actually there for a reason—not just as a random side couple. They act as a narrative mirror to Qi Lang and Yu Hao when they were rookie actors, highlighting how easily actors can become emotionally attached when they’re paired as couples, how the industry expectations placed on them can influence how they approach relationships, and how blurred the lines between acting and real feelings can become.
That said, even though I understand the purpose of their storyline, I’m not a big fan of it either. Imo, I think the series would have been just as impactful and understandable without them.

Yes, and I hope it's agonizingly slow and painful—he better not just get thrown in jail! And I honestly don't think it would have taken away from the intensity or dramatic impact of this episode, or the series as a whole, if they had just left some of that vile content out

I agree, but I also disagree. Imo, sometimes an issue is important enough that a message needs to be sent. And if that message includes the possibility of others—even if not involved—taking a bit of a hit, it may just help that message get across more effectively.
