Poker-face, cold characters are indeed very hard to play. Maybe one of the hardest even. Because then you have to find ways to express things differently and that’s true art. Sadly not everyone can do that, so I think criticism in this aspect is allowed. We’ve been living with poker face characters in BL for a while now with most famous one to this day probably still being Lan Wangji. And yes there are indeed people who succeed in playing those characters and those who don’t. So if some say that for them Gemini’s acting here is not working it’s also a valid opinion, I’m just saying. It’s not because they don’t know that this character is supposed to be like that.

There are a lot of “expressionless” characters like Lan Zhan, Zhang Qiling, Sangwoo, Shinwoo, Shen Wei, Kluen etc. but like they’re all different. I don’t understand it when people say “that’s how he’s supposed to be”. He’s supposed to be like what? Like which one? LOL Even if you play poker-face guy it should speak to people on many levels. They’re all really different. There’s no such thing as “he doesn’t make you feel anything or seems robotic, because he plays nonchalant character”. Like I’m not on anyone’s side here, because what works for ones can not at all work for others, but that’s just not a good argument. Poker face character and someone acting unnatural are different things.

Title My Stand-In
I think we are so used to dumb BL plots that we don't even try to analyze things and just asume that they are…
“he didn’t fell in love with the back, he fell in love at first sight with a person with his back turned”

yeah that’s it. that’s when you lost me. lmao back of a person it’s just a back. “he thought that person was tong and got obsessed with him”. he got obsessed with him and turned his life into that “unrequited love drama” because he saw a back. Because he saw. a. back.

The more I repeat it, the more my brain refuses to process this fact. But I’m glad it makes sense to some. “Fell in love with a person with his back turned”. I now just want an extra when they reveal it’s actually not Tong’s or Joe’s back, it’s the third guy haha

“He fell in love with Joe”. I just really sadly don’t see it, I feel like he feels guilty and yes he misses someone he can do couple things with because it was nice and all, but LOVE.. what exactly does he love about Joe specifically? Besides his stunt double skills and back? It’s really based only on this. Never once it was shown that he sees any of his personality traits or loves some part of his character.

but it’s okay that I don’t understand this kind of love, I just in general can’t comprehend any love at first sights even by the face, now the back is EXTRA hilarious to me

In my opinion, Ming just did not put 2+2 together about Tong and was shocked to find out.The back thing makes…
No, I get all that, this show is not complicated.
I think I’m trying to find some depth in Ming that doesn’t exist probably. It’s a bit upsetting to see that he’s not even interesting, he’s just sad tbh. But that’s just my problem because sexual awakening I 100% get, but starting to revolve your life about someone bc he has a hot back I do not get at all haha it’s just ridiculous in so many levels. He basically didn’t care at all about who is behind this back. Anyone would do. “Don’t try to make sense out of him, it’s pointless” is kinda upsetting (ofc I’ll try to, he’s the main character) bc even totally crazy characters like Xue Yang or smth, it’s still fun to make sense out of them (not realistically ofc), bc that’s the point of characters in fiction. This show is not really serious, it’s just funny to me that they clearly imply that it’s a love story. I’ve asked a friend and she told me that indeed yes a novel is a romance. That’s such a weird “romance”, it’s not romancing to me lol.

And ofc it’s doesn’t have to be epic (I just accidentally thought it was bc I’ve heard Chinese BL and reincarnation, I haven’t read it). I just can’t see it as any love story, even the simple one, that’s all.

P.S. is this Lee Dongshik I see? That’s rare. hello hello T_T

Oh, that's only normal not to have anything to do with worshipping a particular part of the body or partialism.…
I didn’t say anything about something being wrong with being enamoured with part of somebody’s body. One of my favorite ships actually has canonical obsession with his partner’s wide shoulders, but that was already secondary after he made a whole list of how incredible he is to him as a person. He didn’t fell in love with his back and be like “oh if only this back that I love is transferred to a person who is more decent than the one I can’t have” lmao

But of course everyone is different. If you’re in love with David bc you found his back beautiful and start to revolve your life around this feeling even tho you don’t know the guy it’s a bit sad

P.S. about the toe it’s just a joke so some would get how it can be ridiculous if you think about it. I was just comedically exaggerating bc to me personally no any perfect body part can lead to dedicating my life to that person haha

That’s a very interesting and quality series but I really do not get how to feel “awww” at that moment everyone calls “realization” that “it was Joe all the time”. He says “I’m sorry, it was you from the start”. Like no, it wasn’t lol it was just a random back you attached to an assholish persona that decided you’re in love with. It wasn’t “Joe since the very beginning ”. You didn’t know him back then. This whole “I fell in love with the back” is such a weird concept to me personally. Teach me how to catch feelings like this haha

I do get Sirano de Bergerac situation when it’s truly a reveal like “oh it was YOU all along”, but here this scene doesn’t affect you in that way because his words don’t apply to this situation. It‘s not like he was in love with Joe ever since he saw his back. This is just funny. Imagine living with someone for 5 years and be like “actually I fell in love with your toe, oh wait, this toe wasn’t your toe all this time? I was in love with a guy across the street? then I’m leaving” lol

It’d be fine for me if it was like some psychological mental philosophy series, but from what I’m seeing I assume novel was meant to be a romantic novel, right? My brain sadly just can’t grasp the LOVE part here.

Like I’m usually all in for any love stories, including the toxic ones, but here I just don’t see a love story at all. Unless ofc this whole story is meant to be a tragedy and it’s just two sad ppl being forever sad. Like I already know it’s probably gonna end with them living all “happily ever after” being cute and all, but I will laugh 100% because that’s gonna be weird in my opinion. There is not even any specific huge personality trait that Ming could’ve recognise in Joe after reincarnation like in some love stories like that. It’s really just a back? haha that’s so sad, I shouldn’t laugh. It’s just that I for some reason assumed it was some epic love story or some shit.

Like cooking for someone you love and hugging them, it’s what 99% of ppl do, what exactly do they love about each other again? Spineless and hot back? Ayaaa lol About what Joe loves about Ming I won’t even ask…

I love the series btw, like finally something new, I find it fascinating that I do not ship the couple. Like ofc stay together if you consider this happiness for yourself, but i don’t care.

I have to agree with you. I thought I was the only one not falling for the ridiculousness especially since they…
Yeah, this awkward vibe of “he kisses me I just stand there and blush” is never my thing. But when it also makes no sense in the context, it’s even more painful to watch for me.

Like damn, you’ve been dreaming about this person for a long time and you’re not a nun, so even after the initial shock, can I see him being at least somewhat invested? It’s really impossible to believe he was in love with him for soooo long. It’s not even just the kiss, it’s the whole body language to me, aka nonexistent.

I came to see if I was the only one and apparently I am lmao, but that was waaaaay too EXTRA for me. I get the situation but that was so dramatic it became comical, I was caught off guard with Satang’s performance which yeah was a good emotional break down, but like… why lol. It was way overboard and sudden for this particular thing. I had to rewind just to get where did I blink for so long and someone died xD Then “listen, please listen, please, listen”, he was standing there for like 20 minutes listening, you could’ve read him first chapter of “Lord of the Rings” by that time.

I also sadly still cannot see their romantic chemistry (but that’s just my tastebuds), that kiss was very cringy to me. I was really trying with these two since it was their episode this week basically but I don’t think I see what others see. I can say I tried very hard though.

And the flow of the show is very bad to me, bc scenes are very random, they try to fit all 4 couples in the episode at least for a bit and it ruins emotional investment in the storylines. Last episode we don’t see almost anything valuable about the two, next it’s sudden epic drama, while the couple we got invested last week bc of their screen time and development , now gets nothing. It doesn’t entertain me, it’s pissing me off instead, bc my personal emotions don’t work like this, I can’t just turn on and off and pause it, the distribution is just not it. New stays my worst enemy when it comes to storytelling. I can’t get this dude at all.

why is it only ep2 and Phum is already looking like he wants to spread Pheem under him and satisfy him thoroughly (and not just like in a “I wanna fuck you” way, but definitely in a “I wanna fuck you with lots of love” considering the way he looks at him) and Pheem looks like he’d not only volunteer as a tribute asap but would also lie there and scoff “so are you doing me or not, bitch, or do you need a special invitation? move your perfect ass faster” xD

and I’m just here wondering whether it’s just my dumbass heart who’s stuck in palmnueng or to somebody else it also looked like that?

kaleidoscope of death ☺️

he had such an incredible internal fight between “I just want to hold you and never let go to feel that you’re alive” and “you f*cking SOB, you hurt me so much, I’m afraid I’m gonna strangle you myself if you touch me rn”. It was really iconic.

despite me loving the series and main couple a lot, I found too many scenes underwhelming. I mean I was waiting for the reunion so badly and it was like… oh well.

maybe it’s just bc in one of my fav otps of all time when one faked his death (for a much more valid reason btw, he really wasn’t sure he would survive) the other one after the reveal was so mad SOOOOOOOO mad it was like such an emotionally draining moment, he at first was very cold and then there was such intense emotional fight with many incredible points that at the end made the other realize that that’s not how it works when you’re in a relationships. and even though I understand that these relationships can’t be compared bc Qiushi in all seriousness refused to continue living without his husband (and he would have killed himself after the revenge for real) and they overall just unhealthily crazy about each other and “I get it I get it now, I’m sorry I’m sorry I won’t ever force you to continue living if I die” is not normal and might be a bit horrifying… but that was so intense, I was expecting something intense here too.

But this reunion is so meh.. idk. I wish they address this more. I can’t imagine anyone not being mad at this. Like sure yeah, at first kiss him, hug him, it’s understandable, but hello… you freaking BURIED HIM! You cannot be serious about just letting it slide so easily.

I guess I’m just a sucker for emotions and I feel like they underplayed a lot of things. like many climaxes were ruined in the series (I don’t mean their other climaxes, all is great with those lol).

I honestly need to stop expecting too much, bc lately I always expect some intense moments in which the suspense will pay off and everything kinda deflates like a balloon at the end. this must be a me problem. I’m lately always sitting after like “so.. that’s it? ok”

Yeah romcoms are great to watch too I love both light things and dramas equally depending on the mood, but you gotta fit the series to the couple and this one is just such a fail to me, like clearly it’s not their lane. It just doesn’t work.

And also at first I thought it would be good bc they said it was their dream to do a silly cooking romcom, sounded awesome, but I feel really zero soul being put in this creation, it’s just how comes it’s so freaking dull?? This doesn’t look like someone’s dream series, more like someone forced them into it, it’s a weird feeling tbh

People can say whatever, but this honestly just proves my point. I’ve always said that such type of series (I can’t quite put it in one word but like you know those “classic” Thai dumbass romcom types) are actually not the indication of how good or bad someone’s acting skills are. Bc even experienced actors could look kinda dumb like they haven’t been acting at all in their lives in those.

Like in all seriousness I’m 100% sure would that not be offgun here, ppl would have already written long ass essays how they’re bad actors and they need acting classes as they do for many others.

I’m not saying this to diss anyone btw, I love them to death. I’m just saying that I once said that you can’t know whether someone is a bad actor or not just by acting in these types of things. The amount of ppl who can pull this off is really low. And at times they end up (in opposite) not very good at some dramatic shows instead. Some say that good actors are only those who can play in anything, but I really strongly disagree. I truly think that some things are just aren’t fit for some actors and that is okay. I don’t see the need to shove yourself in those. There are plenty of other versatile roles that you can explore. It’s okay to want to try tho ofc.

I just really think that playing in these is a certain skill you either have or you don’t and you can’t train it. Like a special talent. Some just need to accept that they don’t have it. It’s like Leonardo DiCaprio wouldn’t be able to fit into some of Jim Carrey roles. That is totally fine. Doesn’t mean he’s a bad actor lol.

And that is mostly in my opinion on directors, screenwriters and casting ppl tbh. Most times actors can’t see it from the side, so it’s your job to make right choices when it comes to roles, characters, atmosphere etc to make it feel right with these actors no matter what the genre is. In this case I really don’t feel like anyone cared really, I’m sorry.

yeah it’s just not what I dreamt it to be (which is my fault totally lol). I’m more of a deep characters/deep relationships/deep plot kinda person, I’m not into many stuff happening just for the sake of it happening, even tho I know many find it entertaining. I just imagined in my head smth else since the whole story about past lives started

about many accepting romance based on less is very true, I’m just not in that category as I said, that’s why I rarely find stories to connect with

This just my personal take on this but I think their plan was not sell an epic love story because they kind of…
I get that to each their own, bc to me at the end it turned out to be like “none of the genres got to shine” bc it’s neither this or that. I mostly blame myself for expecting from it smth that it wasn’t gonna be in the first place. but it indeed is just a several genres put together with an attempt to chase three rabbits at the same time. I think it could be very enjoyable for ppl to whom action is the main point of watching. I do not mean fighting, but just in general constantly smth happening so you can wouldn’t get bored (bc ppl get bored easily these days let’s be honest haha). but sadly to me who expected great memorable characters and plot and love story it all fell short

I certainly do think that it’s great that finally someone decided to make smth like this, it’s really awesome, BUT this just reminds me of all of these het mainstream kdramas, when they imply that the two main characters have an epic love story in the past, but they show almost nothing from that story (and that’s why ppl start to lean into bromances in those lmao), you just have to accept the fact that they suddenly will find each other in any lives even though you haven’t even sold me on their love story in any capacity. I know many people love these, but I always just can’t connect with this at all, bc I do not get it tbh. what? why? how? when? I know this is just not my kind of story writing, I prefer stories where I know a lot about characters, their past, why they fell for each other (yeah I know there will always be “you love for nothing” ppl), the process of it etc . but that’s just… I’m sorry I feel like there’s the most important chunk is missing, they somehow make me care for some random ppl from the investigations more which is just lol

I get that it was hard to make as it is and asking for more than 12 eps is impossible probably considering everything, but I’m just not sold on their “love story” at all. there is no that soul pain and crushing feeling that I usually have for such “epic couples” who reincarnate and wait for each other in any life as I feel when I for example read some cnovels. it’s just not there. it’s really the same feeling I have when I watched some kumiko or king monarch, where I’m like “I really want to be invested in your relationships but I’m not, I’m sorry” but the writers are like “but but reincarnation…” haha and I’m like “just throwing it in don’t make it a great love story”

I know not many will get me in this, but maybe someone will lol

Way low-key gives off Long from TT vibes. I mean, I just don’t see how what he’s doing will help him get the guy. Even if he clears the way, it still won’t magically make Babe attracted to him and make him want to date him. Unless his goal is just to keep Babe lonely and paranoid for life.

And if I guessed his powers correctly and he really does what I think he’s doing with his “you were better when you didn’t believe in love and didn’t trust people, let’s go back to that” chantings, I’m definitely starting to think that he also kinda realised that Babe won’t be with him anyways single or not, so he just wants him to be unhappy too. Which smells like psycho ward tbh 💀
