I rarely consider dropping a show when it's this far into the story, but this show has had 7 episodes and almost no story. With each disjointed, random and incomplete scene, I become increasingly frustrated with every aspect of this series. Almost every side character is irritating or useless and the main characters are just there with sad expressions on their faces in every scene. The plot is moving at a snail's pace and the editor should never get another editing job! I'm putting this on hold and I'll skim the last episode to see how it all ends.
If April doesn't give us some better written Thai BLs, I may just stop watching all of them for a while because good looking guys will never be enough to make series worth watching imo.
I can't allow myself to drop Chains of Heart because Tin Tem Jai is the only other Thai BL that I'm watching right now. And sadly Chains of Heart is the better of the 2. I never bothered to turn on Past-Senger, not a fan of the leads. And I couldn't even finish the first episodes of Bed Friend, Destiny Seeker and Destiny Seeker. PLEASE let there be something decent in April, because this has gone from bad to worse. This time last year, I had at least one watchable show every day! Now 2 bad shows are all I've got ALL WEEK 😢
Call me boring, but I'm kinda sad that Run got the memo that all BLs MUST have "sexy" scenes and ran with it. This was a below average wholesome series that was pretty much a daycare with some random extras and a college painting class. I don't know that the shirtless make out scene made the show any better, but I'm sure the fans who watch BL just to see shirtless guys making out got their fill this week.
But I am glad that both relationships are moving forward.
Yess!! I've been so disappointed with the BLs this year excluding GMMTV's stuff surprisingly. It's strange because…
After all these years, I would have expected one or two other production companies to have surpassed GMMTV in terms of quality. But I agree with you, they are still creating the most well made Thai BLs year after year. I'm not watching Boss and Babe, but MSP and Moonlight Chicken were probably the best Thai series we're gonna get this year.
I'm glad I stuck with it. It is VERY good. But dang on Unintentional Love, I was really hoping that it would be good too. I generally dislike the slower KBLs, so I probably won't like it if you don't. I guess I'll go catch up on Jack o Frost, because I just dropped Destiny Seeker and I'm out of new series AGAIN!
Exactly. Just go and watch e.g. Bed Friend if explict scenes are your taste instead 😐
I don't personally don't think it's fair to equate BLs that have explicit or sexual content with porn. Just like many hetro series depict characters who have sexual relationships, I think BLs should do the same. The actors who sign up to do BLs with sexual content should not be stigmatized or compared to sex workers. I think there is nothing wrong with sex work. But I also don't think Bed Friend is comparable to porn. I'm sure many BLs fans have never seen gay porn, but I promise you, it's not hard to find for someone who prefers that kind of content.
BL can and should have series that include sex and series that don't. My original point was that this show should not be attacked for not including it and other forms of skinship.
I agree. Of all of the dramas on my current watch list, this is the best so far, and that is not saying much!
Tin Tem Jai is the only other Thai BL I'm watching and for me both are bad in different ways. To your other point, I think the only lesson these companies learned from the success of KP was to have more sex in the series. Better production, writing, acting, editing, cinematography, NOPE!!!! Just more sex scenes even if they look awful and the actors are clearly uncomfortable doing them.
I read the webtoon a while ago and I didn't like how it started, but it got MUCH better as the story went on. I feel the same way about the series. Episodes 3 and 4 sold me completely. Lee Da Yeol and Jo Tae Hyun have really strong chemistry and the story is very well written. And the longer episodes have allowed for everything to develop really well.
Idk what world some people who are mad that there hasn't been skinship live in. The vast majority of BLs don't have constant skinship and kissing. Many that do, have weak stories. And it wouldn't be realistic for people that started off disliking each other to randomly be hooking up so soon just to satisfy a segment of the audience that is thirsty to see high schoolers making out. As others have said, porn exists and no one is stopping you from watching that if that's what you prefer. But bashing a story this well made because they haven't kissed yet is ridiculous!
Well said. Especially that last sentence. There are so many bl series by now, and each ends up being a different…
Sadly I think many also start with a different kind of disappointment. Years ago, I wouldn't have expected much, but there have been some really great series over the last few years. Instead of getting better and better, I feel like in a lot of ways the genre is backsliding. And when I wait a year or more to see something and the quality is lower than some series from 2016, it's a big let down.
I really agree with you...I really want to love this series that's why I still watch it expecting more because…
I'm expecting the last 2 episodes to finish everything off in a very rushed ending. But there's so much filler in each episode, that this could have been 6 episodes in total.
Why didn't they name this show "Strangling & Flashbacks"? Because that's really the only thing that has happened in 6 episodes.
The only thing that could make this style of "directing" acceptable is if each actor was assigned a different director who shot 2-3 minute scenes and the directors never spoke to each other or saw the other directors' scenes. And then the editor just threw everything together last minute in no particular order for each episode. If that's not what happened there's no excuse for the scenes to be so random, so incomplete and so predictable.
I REALLY want to like this series, the idea behind the plot is interesting. But no one can convince me that they did a table read where the actor playing Nok was present. That character is straight out of a bad mafia movie or action comic book. And it feels like every scene with him exists in a COMPLETELY different series.
There are only 4 more episodes and it's obvious where the "story" is going, but with each episode I care less about everything and everyone. The beginning of 2023 is the most disappointing time in Thai BL that I can remember!
I read the webtoon for A Shoulder to Cry On and watched the first episode. I know it will get better as the story progresses, but so far I don't like it. I'm saving Unintentional Love until Our Dating Sim ends so I have something to watch.
