I binged the entire season in two sittings so the episodes blended together for me. Keep that in mind when you read my review.

The pacing of the drama is different from  the first season. Probably because the director changed for season 2. There are quite a few plot holes, some very obvious and some only noticeable after you watch the episode a second time. The pacing feels slower compared to the first season. There was also a serious lack of character development in the protagonist (Fang Mu), or any sign of him showing trauma (or recovering from it) from the first season despite the theme of show being, y'know, about the mind. There's also less profiling of criminals and more old fashioned detective work from our protagonist despite him being a profiler.

The opening case was nice, very nice, set the mood quite well. And then the next episode we didn't see the protagonist until near the end AKA protag's existence feels weakened in this season. Also there were way more cliffhangers than there were, y'know, actual gratifying stuff like finding the criminal, which is a minus for me.

The overall mood of season 2 was not as dark (for me) as season 1. Probably because of the director's lack of experience combined with the fact that he is directing the second season of a show and has to mimic the style of the previous director (to a certain extent). And also because of the antagonists and the emotions they evoke. Not gonna say more cause spoilers.

TBH I prefer the first season more. I rewatched episode 20 of season 1 several times already since I finished it a day before I started season 2. I guess it's because

Don't read this review if you are a fan of this drama.

I formally and sincerely apologies for any fans of this drama that I intentionally or unintentionally insulted.

Warning: I use the japanese names of the characters.

When I saw the first few minutes of the first episode, I thought it was okay. Ryoma's(Long Ma) father was more...sensible than his japanese counterpart (he was more silly and obnoxious in the manga, anime, and movie), figure of Ryoma was also taller (he was known to be short in the manga, anime, and movie).

I was a bit uncomfortable with the changes but I was sure I would get used to it. Thirty minutes into the drama, I perished that thought. There was nothing wrong with the plot or acting of course, except for the fact the characters were nothing alike to the originals AKA manga/anime.

Ryoma was portrayed wayyyy more angsty, limitlessly impulsive and emotionally explosive, picking fights with people who so much as look at him wrong left, right, and center, not at all like the Ryoma who is very composed, arrogantly calm and enjoys ruffling people's metaphorical feathers.

Kaido was another unpleasant surprise. He was shown as being SOCIABLE, SMILING and MAKING JOKES (the world must be coming to an end) with his teammates, no hissing (Kaido trademark copyright), although his pride hasn't changed at all.

All in all, I don't think I'll ever come to fully like this drama. The plot good, that I would gladly admit, nor was there anything wrong with the actors themselves or their skill of acting, but some of the characters were so out of sync that watching was just painful (I loved manga Ryoma's arrogant smirk. *sniffle* Why oh why couldn't it appear in the drama?).

I formally and sincerely apologies for any fans of this drama that I intentionally or unintentionally insulted.

the synopsis makes it sound like drama will focus on the protagonis and how he will navigate a world that is biased and different from him and rise above the obstacles but the actual drama is actually mostly focused around the drama of the supporting actors and their misgivings/their negative experiences with neuro-divergent people in their lives and how because of that. the supporting characters know what it best for the protagonist and his patients. which is just (sigh) a narrative that is inherently ableist in nature and not something i am particularly comfortable with.
