Not really convinced by the plot

Though I appreciate all the strong FL stories but this one was weird. Points that I felt fall apart
1) FL or ML chemistry was totally off ...their romance sky rocketed all of sudden like there were on moments/ connecting links .. so in overall out come chemistry was off
2) the comedy punches are quite old and childish I believe the writing was too lousy to present nice humour.
3) the actors who played ML looked too immature for this character ... He seems like a high school boy wearing his father's Tux for farewell.
4) connecting links between the consecutive scenes were off ...the whole plot appeared to have missing something ..
5) and last but not the least is the irritating cowboy background music ..like do they even care to match the music along with drama setting ...how come this type of plot can have a cowboy style BG music

A passionate love story

Short episodes, to the point story.. no beating around the bush with unnecessary conspiracy .... packed with spicy romance and drama ...what else can you ask for ... I thoroughly enjoyed the republican era setting. lead actors had funtastic chemistry ..they literally delivered the best of their characters ... Not going to reveal any spoilers but the kissing scene ... My god ...so passionate ... Ladies you gonna skip a beat on every kissing scene you have my words ... Hehe
Totally worth watching especially if you are into those romantic passionate novels.

18 episodes later, still asking why ???

The drama looked promising at first. I picked it purely for the tags since I'm not particularly attached to the cast.

Big mistake.

By the time I reached episode 9-10, it became painfully obvious that the plot is not progressing at all and nothing meaningful is happening . Unfortunately, it couldn't deliver even 20% of what it promised.

Let's talk about the comedy first.

What comedy???

Every pun. Every punchline. Every supposedly funny scene. All of it felt painfully forced. The natural humour, the kind that actually catches you off guard, is completely absent.

The leads didn't help either. Their cutesy antics are tolerable at first, then quickly become a sugar overdose. By the tenth episode, Everything became so overly cute that it started feeling nauseating and cringe.
Unfortunately, this affected their chemistry too. Because beneath all the flirting and cute moments, I couldn't feel any real connection between them.

The biggest reason?👇

Their goals are never in sync.

The FL spends most of the drama hiding her martial arts abilities behind a fragile-girl facade. Meanwhile, the ML spends most of *his* time manipulating situations for his own plans......Even when she needs help, he acts less like a partner and more like a chess player ... And she becomes another piece on the board.

So where exactly is the couple dynamic?

where is the romance?

Where is the trust?...the teamwork???

Because all I saw was flirting.

Lots of flirting.... Cheap thrills, teasing, accidental closeness, and those *"oops, we fell into each other's arms for the seventeenth time"* moments. But The romance itself?...Missing.

In a nutshell ~~

This was by far the most ridiculous romance plot I have ever seen. I spent 45 mins per episode and watched 18 episodes so far yet I am not sure why, when and how the leads started falling for each other.

Sloth sped plot and incredibly third-class acting

Okay it's been a while since I have written such harsh review but this drama has earned it ..
Starting with the sketch or outline of the story .. ML is commandar or something of the sort in army and due to an espionage and secret breech a lot of his fighter buddies got killed in the battle. Hell knows how but the first person he doubt is his own fiancee who happens to get married to an influential man's son after learning about his death. Now ML wants to kill his ex- fiancee amto avenge his brothers who got killed on the battlefield and for this he gets a plastic surgery, changes his appearance and enters the plot .. eventually marrying harassing and insulting the FL( ex-fiancee) .. she becomes pregnant then loses the child ( I mean you know the drill ..don't you???) so basically, if we ignore the shabby writing, the overall outline of the story was fine ..it had a lot of potential.. but the way it is written is so boring , that you might as well think of dropping it all together.
Things that were extremely bad in the drama was
1) leads acting : I like cavan wen but unfortunately his acting was mediocre here . And don't even get me started on the FL ... Her horrible nose surgery along with her horrible acting was making this drama unbearable. I will give 0.5 out of 10 for such poor acting skills.
2) no chemistry: I know it's part of acting itself but I have seen a lot of actors who aren't good actor but can still set good chemistry with their co star ..for example Esther yu's acting is 👎 but she can still manage the chemistry..while these two can't even pull that off ... I mean their kisses were so blank and romance is so flat ..I don't even know what to say .
3) there is literally no work done on the plot or overall writing.. things are going in such illogical and absurd manner that it hardly making any sense ... For example in ep 21 ML comes asking for FL's forgiveness for treating her badly but she denies to forgive him. After a moment she vomits blood and ML just stands, watches and leaves as if he is hardly bothered ( I mean boy, a moment ago you were begging for her forgiveness now you not even bothered to ask what happened to her)
not even this but overall drama is lacking on logic and reasonable stuff
4) the ending ... I jumped from 20th to 28th episode just to see if ending of the show is worth all the pain..but NO ...in fact I can't understand this ending at all ..
So overall it was a low budget low performance drama which I personally will not recommend ( rest is upto you)

A tale of shit wrapped as muffin

Oh, where do I even begin with this masterpiece of logic-defying brilliance?

First question to anyone who’s had the endurance (or misfortune) to sit through this chaos:
She had to marry her brother-in-law to take care of her sister’s kid? Really? Because apparently being the aunt is just too basic now. Why be a guardian when you can be a crown princess-slash-replacement-wife-slash-lifelong martyr, right?

Now let’s talk about the writer, who deserves a standing ovation for crafting a female lead so obnoxious, so utterly insufferable, that hating her feels not just natural, but therapeutic. And yes, I get it—character arcs in these dramas go from “spawn of Satan” to “goddess of redemption” faster than a plot twist in a daily soap. I, however, chose peace. I dropped the show before witnessing her glitter-drenched rebirth.

Here’s what really had me internally combusting:

Sister #1, lying on her deathbed, still obsessed with preserving her husband’s legacy like a “devoted wife” and planning to emotionally blackmail her sister into marrying her husband using a single page letter. No apologies, no second thoughts—just vibes and manipulation.

Sister #2, who thinks marrying the brother-in-law is totally normal because a letter told her to. Not a single brain cell stopped her to ask, “Why do I need to marry him to help with a child?” Ever heard of being a loving aunt? Or may be that was too logical for her dead brain.

This walking red flag of a woman then proceeds to emotionally devastate the one man who truly loved her, tossing him aside with the excuse: “I want to be crown princess.” Yes, because saying “I'm sacrificing myself for the child” apparently wasn’t dramatic enough? So let's go for a statement chaotic enough.

And the cherry on top? Five years later, she sends a letter to her heartbroken ex, asking him to help save her husband’s ass. Talk about the audacity. She wants to claim all the spots of his priority that should rightfully belongs to his life partner but doesn't like his advances. She wants to use him as a husband on the expense of being mere acquaintance. She has compassion for entire world from that brother in law to servants of palace but the ML

Look, I know there’s a certain niche that lives for these “PLAYING YO-YO BETWEEN TWO MEN ” FLs —but this lead? She’s not torn, she’s utterly detached from logic, reason, and basic emotional accountability.

Plot had enough pot holes and casting wasn't too helpful either ...richard was fine not the best thanks to his hopeless role here and ming Jia Jia's bucktooth appearance and mediocre acting doens't appeal to me at all. for someone like me who gives equal importance to FL she doesnt serve the purpose.

Gets better from ep 7 onwards

Feud, as the name suggests, is a lifelong dispute between two divine lovers—the lord 👑 of Dacheng, Bai Juisi, and Hua Ru Yue (lord siling) . A classic case of miscommunication leads them to blame each other for a heavenly sin. In the heat of the fight, Hua Ru Yue bursts her inner core (or so it seems) and ends her life.

Now reincarnated as Quinyue, a below-average disciple from the hell-remembers-what sect, she’s living a quiet life until a stupid sect commotion gets her injured. And boom—Bai Juisi receives a distress signal, comes and saving her. thinking she’s Ru Yue pretending to be someone else bai juisi marries her. The main plot begins ~

the plot seem very childish and annoying till episode 6 .. there after things begin unfolding in sort of a storyline which is perhaps more intriguing than how it was in the very previous episodes and later with siling's awakening and her faceoff with juisi followed by love tribulation ..this drama has lowkey started giving TTEOTM vibes,
As so far both dramas have strikingly pattern where the female lead oscillates between love and hate for ML. Regardless of her emotional turmoil, including multiple attempts to hurt him. The ML remains unwavering, he continues to love her deeply, offering her nothing else but overwhelming affection.
but even if the vibe of lead couple hits same ..the core theme of TTEOTM is quite different to this one, as here ML is not the curse and defeated [arty like he was in TTEOTM.

What I Liked So Far:

1. Bailu ❤️ – When have I not loved her? She’s my on-screen serotonin boost—gorgeous, effortlessly charming, and just… chef’s kiss. I adore her. A total heart stealer. 💕 later she turns into siling for the better atleast she is little less clingy than quinyue ..

2. Joseph – I was unsure at first, but his soft features bring a surprising charm to the role. That quiet intensity? Kinda working for me, even with his occasional arrogance. 🩵✨

3. Styling – Costumes , hair, accessories, makeup ✨✨—everything fits the tone beautifully. Well, almost everything. Quinyue’s wedding look in ep 2 and 3? That headpiece was a crime against aesthetics.

4. Set Design – Absolutely lovely! The pink flower theme 🌸🌸🌸 is straight out of a fairytale. Someone clearly paid attention to detail, and it shows.

5. CGI – Not the best, not the worst. It does the job. let's just say I’ve seen better, this is passable, not the cinematography though.

What Could Be Better:

1. Cinematography 🎥– Were they filming through a fogged-up window? Those hazy scenes are so blurry, even HD feels like it's giving up. A divine drama deserves more than a budget webcam filter.

2. Bailu’s Character – I hoped for a sharper, sassier Quinyue. She’s smart, yes, but often feels helpless surrounded by troubles or acting so delusional —especially when love’s involved. A little more wit and a little less cheese, please. Or just let Siling take over already—girl means business. Bring her with her savage.

3. Background Sounds – From annoying noises 🙉 to underwhelming Background score, the sound department clearly missed a few memos. It’s not immersive at all.

Did this drama hit that string in my heart?
Nope… not yet🥲 . I am loving it but not the way I expected ... Here's hoping it gets better in the upcoming episodes and reaches my expectations 🥹, making me change the ratings . 🤞 for that emotional punch!

edit :☝🏻 taking this back .. i am enjoying watching this show may be this is not going to be one of my fav but I'M LOVIN' IT nonetheless

Disgusting in the beginning... Dissatisfying in the end

This drama didn’t leave a good taste in my mouth. The reason is simple — I’m not satisfied with the comeback. Everyone has already written the introduction, so there’s no point in me repeating the same thing. What I felt was that the male lead wasn’t given the right closure.

I understand he wasn’t directly involved in the conspiracy behind the female lead’s family’s execution, but he still brought enough misery into her life. I would’ve appreciated it more if she had simply walked away after forgiving him for his actions instead of reconciling with him. In my opinion, he really crossed the line by selling her to a brothel and making other men say filthy things about her character.

If she still loves him after all that, I’d call her foolish. For anything in the world, this should be a woman’s bottom line — and no excuse or amount of atonement should ever be treated as compensation.

She can forgive him cause Forgiveness is a virtue; it comes from within and is often unbiased. But love — love should be driven by basic rule of safeguarding each other's respect. A man who makes a woman a target of sexual humiliation by others is not worth loving (no matter what his reasons were).

Couldn't bring myself to finish this one

I started watching this drama with literally zero expectations then in the end even a zero felt more. A grandma blaming a kid for his parents' death, burning his toys and stuff. it must be good for those who like crying over pitiful leads as for me i get bored easily .. i cant handle too much of this sort of plot. we all have our own moments when our spirit was destroy by a craft and corrupt adult ..dont we ? though some of us have faced it more while others find an escape, but for the sake of holy heavens, dont make be feel pitiful about a man who's living in penthouse worth millions, ordering and getting any collectable from any part of world irrespective of the price, keeping them in a god damn vault pricier than my entire net worth.... hhhhuuuuhhh! (breathing in ..breathing out)

I think that's enough for this review... thank you !!

Love, Hate and suffering of a thousand years

It’s been a while since I have liked a short drama plot this much. It has good romance, a retro feel, reincarnation, revenge, passion, a dominating and bold FL, and a caring, doting, and the right amount of possessive ML. The couple has sparking chemistry ~~~~~ everything that I like in a drama.

The FL is a 1000-year-old immortal looking for redemption. She is sassy, bossy, bold, kinda aloof — 'a tsundere on all levels' — while the ML is a mortal governor of the town. He is a man of good character; he is caring and calm, gets possessive and cranky when he sees the FL with his brother, otherwise, he is pretty much a perfect green flag. Their chemistry reaches sky-high in 1... 2... and 3 seconds, as both of them are authoritative when it comes to love.

Apart from this, the background song was an absolute banger — the one that plays when they get married in ep 23 (I CAN’T FIND THE SONG ANYWHERE! IF YOU KNOW, PLEASE DROP THE TITLE IN THE COMMENT BOX 💕💕).

The ending was very touching. He let her die because he knew she had been suffering for a thousand years, and it was time to stop her agony and let her rest in peace. It’s the only drama where I have seen a lover giving true salvation to the loved one instead of sacrificing his own life.

I loved this drama and sure will be watching it again.

Cringe

1) story is boring and full of clichè
2) lead actors are not impressive and lacking a big time on chemistry.
3) dialogues are so cringe.
4) overacting sequences of side cast is killing the plot.
5) sorry for being rude but it was my first time watching so many below average ugly faces in single drama ..I don't know if it was because of the budget issue or something else But no one in the cast excluding FL looked good.

Third class .. bogus

I hold it till episode 13 to give this show a fair chance but honestly I regret wasting my time on this crap ... Everything from story to acting sucks ... specially the female lead her character is moronic on top her acting made is even more cringe ... I cant point a single good thing about this show ... Unnecessary conspiracy tracks and misunderstanding between the leads ..to keep them apart ... Full of over acting and over reacting ... The storyline must have written by some eight grader taking in consideration the entire plot is so childish ... Boring and pathetic

The writer's favourite RED FLAG

I approached you to take my revenge without doing any proper investigation. Trust me, I fell for you at first sight.
I stabbed a knife through you. Believe me, I did it to protect you.
I betrayed you and married your archenemy. Believe me, you’re the only one for me.
I couldn’t control my hormones and humiliated you. Trust me, I love you deeply.
I let my wife play archery with an apple on your head. Trust me, I will keep you safe.
Viewers know I am a big scumbag… but believe me, I am a gentleman — because the writer says so.
Alright, once you believe all this, the plot magically reaches Episode 18.
Characters
Male Lead (ML):
A very interesting ML indeed. Literal aphrodisiacs don’t work on him; he gets turned on by the FL’s slaps — not one, not two, but at least three. This might sound romantic foreplay to some, but given their situation, only a lunatic would find it exciting. He is utterly shameless, in my opinion. He constantly hides his hypocrisy behind the “benefit of doubt,” never truly caring about the repercussions. He believes that just because he has a reason, all his shady and disgusting actions should be forgiven. According to him, since he claims to love the FL, she should forgive him for doing absolutely anything to her.
By Episode 20, I had lost all hope in the concept of karma. This man is a freaking zombie. I don’t care what happens next; I’m not watching it anymore. Still, I can easily predict what’s coming: his love-compulsion-hemorrhoids will worsen, he’ll suffer dramatically for half an episode, and then he’ll be saved at the last moment — because the writer clearly lacks both logic and a moral compass.
Female Lead (FL):
This fool isn’t even worth mentioning in the review. I mean, even a freaking platyhelminth — which doesn’t have a true brain — would react and bite if hurt this many times. But the FL seems to be even lower in the evolutionary hierarchy. Pathetic. Completely hopeless. Her entry with that aerial dance almost made me think she’d bring something substantial to the table. Turns out, she’s just another loser who succumbs to pheromones and hormones.
Side Lead / Vamp:
I actually liked her more. Yes, she’s a spoiled brat, but at least she had the brains to protect what mattered to her.
Background Music:
It existed, but nothing impressive. Or maybe the plot was so bad that even Céline Dion couldn’t have saved it.
Overall Verdict
I genuinely don’t understand how some people rated this an 8, 9, or even a 10. But then again, we all have our own taste and our own standards. Perhaps mine just isn’t this low.

Reincarnation? More Like Recycled Nonsense

Some writers genuinely enjoy creating weak characters in the most illogical settings. Case in point: The Double, In Blossom, and now this gem of a drama. All three proudly sit on the same dusty shelf of period dramas where the writers go wild with the “women were weak back then” trope. Historically accurate? Sure. But when you toss reincarnation into the mix—a literal plot anomaly—and still insist on dragging the female lead through every cliché in the daily soap playbook… it turns into a comedy. And not the good kind.

Let’s get this straight: if your character is reincarnated and knows everything that's going to happen—has an actual guidebook written in cryptic poem form, no less—how is she somehow more helpless than the characters without a clue? It’s almost magical how she manages to be less useful with more information.

I was fuming. On one hand, the writers treat women like they’re fragile beings barely surviving the era. They turn the female leads into the saddest, mopiest characters alive—even with their second chance at life. And yet, somehow, the vamps and shady concubines are out there playing 4D chess, ruining lives, and running empires. Are they not women too? Or do they just eat a different brand of cereal?

It’s giving: “We didn’t know how to write, so we made her pitiful instead.” Classic move. When creativity runs out, just dump all your plot weight onto one character and hope the “emotionally invested” crowd eats it up. Spoiler: some of us aren’t buying it.

The plot? Oh, the usual. Husband cheats, wife meets soulmate, wife dies unfairly—yawn. Then bam! Reincarnation. She wakes up in her 8-year-old body, clutching a magical book filled with future events written in poems. Sounds like a game-changer, right? Wrong.

Her mother dies—she lets it happen. ML’s uncle dies—not her problem. People around her suffer, get punished, even die... and our girl is just chilling, casually using the book to grow her bank account while ignoring everything else. If you’re gonna give someone a gift that powerful, maybe make sure they have a shred of purpose? Or at least a moral compass?

She was useless in her past life, and she’s still useless now—just richer. Emotional intelligence? Zero. Strategic thinking? Nope. Social power? Don’t make me laugh.

By episode 13, karma finally clocked in and her creepy uncle beat her to a pulp. It was oddly satisfying. Why? Because with great power comes great responsibility... and she treated hers like a shopping list. If she wasn’t going to do anything useful with that magical book, maybe she should’ve handed it over to literally anyone else. Even the tea lady.

Romantic scenes? At this point they Felt like cactus needles to the eyeballs. I couldn’t do it anymore. so I just dropped it.

Would I recommend this show?

HELLO, NO. Go stare at the wall.

PS: In the end I am left with a question
" How this crap got itself such high rating ? "

Not a 'Luo zheng' worthy thing

What in the holy hell did i just watched ... And This shit has a total of 42 episodes ..why ?? Who can take this BS for 42 episodes.

As much as the nonsensical plot is considered luo zheng was such a misfit in this ridiculous drama, this sort of crap doesn't deserve his presence .. 'A potential wasted' .. his script selection in the year 2021 was bizzare nothing appealed me in those projects, rather felt like desperate selection instead of a rational one.
And seriously I want to know what sort of underhanded trick do these flat 2D faced, ugly and 'talentless to the core' women play in the auditions to beg themselves the lead roles opposite these good ML actors. No !! Please !! I want someone to convince me how come this ' conveniently average looking woman' with her pathetic acting got the lead role while the one who is way prettier and talented then her is playing insignificant side character. Why ??? as if the plot wasn't painful enough to watch the writing was equally pathetic .. With multiple languages BS dialogue (I think they were trying to make it into some hell of an art piece), bogus comedy punches and uninspiring characters. In the end this for me was not a drama it's writers' constipation ,which comes out when creativity commits suicide.

ZERO SEASONING ?

I have zero to negative tolerance on the number line for overpowered villain storylines like this one. It’s almost as if the writers, struggling to construct a proper conspiracy, suspense arc, or even a halfway decent mystery, just hurl a mountain-sized bully into the plot and hope for the best.

Take the vamp here, for example—daughter of the Marquis of Who-Knows-What. This woman has her nose (and occasionally her entire leg) in everyone’s business. She arrests people on a whim, tortures others like it’s a hobby, and uses every illegal trick in the book—and somehow, no one stops her?

If she’s that invincible, why doesn’t she go straight for the Emperor and call it a day? And if this is about personal power, not the law, then why is everyone putting up with her nonsense? She’s out here slapping strangers, crippling people, and walking away like she’s Beyoncé at a runway—but not one character thought of kicking her off her high horse?

And don’t even get me started on the title—Culinary Vendetta. Sounds tasty, right? Well, turns out, food is barely involved. They sprinkled the culinary element like salt in a bad college cafeteria meal—non-existent and deeply disappointing.

Moving on to cast the FL and ML are awesome actors but they are pathetic together ..no spark in chemistry.. in fact it felt like they were holding some grudge against each other while giving the kissing scene ... No Harmony whatsoever, and a big SHOUTOUT to the writer who made their romance even flatter with his plot. I like the character of Fl's MIL very refreshing and unique unlike the typical MILs we see in asian drama (boring and senile). The actress playing Vamp was the worst in my opinion.second class makeup third class acting .. It was so annoying to watch her raise her eyebrow at least ten times in each sentence..

I don't think I will survive to watch it end,This drama drained me so hard, I’m seriously reconsidering watching any short drama again for a while. It didn’t just disappoint me, it mugged my enthusiasm and left it bleeding in an alley.
