i never really followed him, i happen to know him because of his scandal. idols usually make me raise a brow, some of them can't act to save their lives, some others are good at what they do but both kinds carry with them a load of crazy and toxic fans. i've seen the new ml in other dramas, he isn't bad (he usually plays the villain though)
watched the whole thing. i've read so many comments bashing this drama, but honestly i can't understand why. is it a masterpiece? far from it, is it good? disputable, but definitely it isn't bad, i mean i've seen better, but also a lot worst. it has some good ideas (the whaleboats! the ml journey from nice normal girl to hero), nice world building, well made characters (Yin Ya and Mu Zhang Ting) some character growth and some, although, predictable, plot twists. it has three major flows, the first more noticeable one is the editing gone wild in the last 10 episodes, the script waste a lot of time in overused tropes and fluff that has to cut MAJOR EVENTS; the second are the tropes themselves, everytime the story deviates from the predictable tropes they chicken out and throw in some overused clichè; the third is how ml is written, basically he's a wish fulfilling ml trope on two legs. it start as a commedy and i think it's the strong part of the drama, good timing, good and fun jokes carried by very good actors. overall i'd say it's average borderline random. you can live without it, but if you have time watch it
rich and spoiled kid wants is the producer of an historical drama, but he keeps changing the script and the subgenre untill the poor writer can't bear it anymore and takes revenge with her script. it's weak as a parody (every episode is a different parody of a different subgenre), as i said it could have been funnier. it's not bad, it's meh
