i'm here also for the plot, i mean in general i'm a fan of historical dramas, the more complex is the scheme the better. all the 4 mains are incredibly handsome, i think people is just shallow as usual. they also do a lot of nice fanservice on their accounts, more than any other current chinese bl couple (especially 50 shades of crazy prince and Ziming) i hope this helps them to be more famous. on the other hand i'm happy they're not going to be mobbed by crazy fans like others

honestly i liked what they did with Zhou Lan, the (hinted) development (5 years summarized in 3 minutes) of her character. she made a mistake, she married the wrong man but they became friends and in the end they got a divorce and both moved on staying friends. i'd like to defend Yichen to a certain extent, it's not easy to break free from the toxic dynamics of the family you're born in. the old hag knows how to manipulate his emotions to get what she want, that is not her son's happiness, but her own selfish desires, also Yichen still feels probably guilty because of his love for another man, if not in general towards his family (undeserving selfish lot, but still his family)
