What an interesting drama...

So I kinda noticed this drama on Youtube when it came out in November 2019. I watched the first episode and was like “nah not interested.” And then later in December, everyone was talking about this drama and how it’s so interesting. So I took a dip and dived in. Turns out.. yes this drama is soo bomb!

The storyline is so interesting I don’t even know what’s going on. That’s a good thing cuz it leaves you with wonders. What happened to the male lead’s mother? Why is the leather case filled with those gadgets? Why is Fan Xian being protected? Why does the emperor treat him this way? I started to wonder if he had any relations with the emperor..later on (forgot which episode, I think 35+) it reveals that he’s actually the son of the emperor! Like holy- never expected that.

And at last, his relations with his mates and Yan Bing Yun (Xiao Zhan)... When YBY stabs FX, I was like HOLY MOLY THAT’S THE END???? And then I was like “NO FREAKING WAY THE MALE LEAD CAN’T JUST DIE LIKE THAT!” Lin WanEr (Li Qin) just disappeared after episode 32 or something which left me with confusion.
Sooo then I heard there’s a sequel which is getting me pumped! 😅😅😅

Ok the reason I put the rewatch value so low is that I usually don’t rewatch a drama cuz who would want to when we all know what’s gonna happen? At least I don’t..

Thoughts

This is probably one of my favorite real-life problem dramas that lets you experience what is happening during Covid-19. After watching episodes of this drama, I actually felt the difficulties of the people there. It's something I wouldn't ever want to experience... the pain... the sorrow.... every bit left me in tears. Sending your own family off into the hospitals... worrying if they're make it alive or not... that's something truly... truly miserable...
Seeing a family reunion during that time makes the tears flow quicker.... during January of 2019, the volunteers, nurses, doctors, and people from parts of China were unable to visit their families of distant lands. Who would ever want to experience that? All the actors brought this experience to me..
I would highly recommend you watch this if you're interested in Chinese society during the epidemic.
I really want to say that I would like to appreciate the healing angels, the volunteers, and the helpers. Without them, what would life be today? Imagine the epidemic today.... Although the virus is maintained in China, it's still occurring where I live. I just hope this day would be over.
Who knew this drama came out when the virus isn't contained where I live.
At last, I would like to say thank you for the directors of this drama. Thank you for bringing such an experience to me. I was so naive about what was going on during that time. Who knew 2021 turned out to be like this? Thank you for letting me experience a person's life through a screen. I'll be continuing watching this drama. Although I wouldn't necessarily rewatch this drama.... I wouldn't want to experience more pain and sadness.

Honest opinions about this drama

Yes, we all were sooo tempted for this drama to come out. I was sooo excited when I heard a drama like this would be airing. The first few episodes left me in tears. I would watch non-stop. But now? The storyline starts to downfall halfway through. I’m missing the happy childhood moments as this is becoming more of a romance type of drama.

When this drama first aired, I would be continue watching the few episodes aired at no costs. I was at episode 30 or so when the last episode (46) finished airing. I waited about a week before I started to continue watching the last bits of the drama. If it’s a good drama, I wouldn’t take such a long time to finish it. My review is given for the episodes beyond 20. A strength of this drama would be the acting, the visuals, and the music. The acting for all the actors are on point. Left me in tears. So did the music. I’m still listening to the OST cuz it’s so heartwarming. Other than that, I wouldn’t continue to watch this. Nor would I recommend newbies to watch this. If you want, watch the first 10 or so episodes and stop there. Like the episodes when the two are together, it doesn’t even show LJJ’s affection for LX! I didn’t even know when she started liking him and why she would choose him over HZQ.
Anyways, that’s my review!

Lasting Memories

A way to describe the drama is imagining yourself on a cruise. You get to relax but also spend your time on fun activities the cruise has on board so that even if you're at sea, you won't be bored.

The story is like a cruise. It's an enjoyable drama to watch when you need a refresher and a destresser. It's not boring, there are elements added to the show that add excitement and butterflies, especially the interaction between the leads, you will be sitting there like me giggling and blushing.

A lot of you may think that school dramas are boring, like who would want to see students interact in school? However, this drama turns their daily interactions into youthful memories that transport the viewers into their life. I personally would love to experience their life, their friendship, and their connection with one another.

The group of 5 make up one another, each has their own stories, personalities, and interests. The drama doesn't just revolve around the main leads, the supporting characters add much more depth to the story. Even with the annoying characters, they aren't there for too long, 1-2 episodes max. Problems and misunderstandings are easily solved. Everything is healthy.

The casting is perfect. They're the perfect age to be acting in a school drama. I've seen Zhou Yiran (Zhang Lu Rang) in A Little Mood for Love, which he did a splendid job in. I'm looking forward to Zhang Miaoyi (Su Zaizai)'s drama with Jun (Exclusive Fairytale) and Guardians of the Dafeng. She has a lot of potential. I also noticed Bian Tianyang (Gu Ran) in Run for Time Season 3, so that's pretty cool too! I hope all the actors get to shine in their next drama.

Watching one 30-minute episode in the morning truly brightens my day. I don't think I'll be able to move on ;-;

I loved the inclusion of the female lead's camera. She's like me, I love recording and taking photos of moments with my friends. It truly creates a lasting memory that can be later looked back upon.

Unforgetable

I previously dropped this drama at episode 9 because the story just didn't seem to hold. However, over spring break, I was bored and decided to watch this drama again. Who knew I was HOOKED to it. This drama definitely deserved the hype from 2019. Sad how I didn't hear about this drama in 2019 due to some family issues that brought me down.

The acting of the main leads is phenomenal. The CGI work is MEH but who cares... when you have two awesome leads. The chemistry is amazing. The supporting cast are all truly amazing. This really is a masterpiece. I finished on March 31, 2021. I don't usually watch older dramas, but I can't stop thinking about this drama. It's always in my head and every single time I'm on Youtube, a fan edit pops up.... ugh the pain....

Swords and Promises

**INITIAL THOUGHTS OF THIS DRAMA, REVIEW/RATING SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS DRAMA PROGRESSES*
This drama is off to a great start. There's a strong plot desperately attracting you into the story. The first drama I've watched in 2021 and one of the first historical dramas I've watched that held my attention. I'm really a goer for historical dramas with political struggles.

**All of these are listed in my opinion**
This drama includes a strong + smart male and female lead. However, I'm not feeling the chemistry between the two main leads. It isn't a big problem in the drama though because both are visually appealing. At least the second leads have good chemistry (Hao Du and Leyan) imo.
Battles and some other parts are illustrated as cartoons. I'm not liking this fact because it is live-action after all, not donghua. This catches me away from the plot, it's quite disturbing imo. At least it's better than a war scene with horrible CGI and little effort.
Also, it's sort of hard to figure out who is who (Li Shimin's officials (there are 3 I keep mixing up)).

The music is this drama is superb. I'm really enjoying the sound effects in the drama. The opening and ending OSTs are so heartwarming. That's what I love most about historical dramas, the OSTs are amazing!!!

**I will most likely add more to this review**
**Also note that my ratings for rewatch values are always lower because I'm not a fan of rewatching dramas, even if they're good. It ruins the drama if you ever rewatch it despite knowing the entire plot. I might watch snips and clips but definitely not the whole drama**
