I agree. I don't understand why he never reached out in those 6 years. It's all his own assumption, assuming she'll be happier without him, but he took away almost everything from her (her love, her poor dog, etc). Also, why is he waiting for her to take 99 steps before he even takes 1? If she hadn't come back to Nanjing and looked for him after finding out about the shop, I don't think he would have ever reached out. Nor do I think he really wanted to get back with her in that moment. Like I honestly can't tell if he even likes her as much as she likes him. He's honestly a coward. Every time she cries it's always related to him. And bro is always muted and barely has anything to say and thinks it can be solved with a kiss, I can't even....

I believe the author made the SML similar to a typical ML in other novels and dramas to show that the almost perfect character isn't always able to succeed and get the girl.
