Title The Glory
Ha Do Young has got to be the most unpredictable character of this show
Because everyone else is clearly Team Dong Eun or Team Evil? I like his function as the no nonsense calm character who seems to be the only sane person in the midst of all the melodrama and a foil to the other mains. Be interesting to see what happens when and what will cause him to lose his cool.

Title The Glory
So far, in term of revenge for bullying, The king of pigs did it way better. In the glory, a lot of the main lead's…
I kinda see it like this. King of Pigs, the revenge is more active and independent as in he's making things happen. It didn't totally rely on what the perps did. Here, her plan is just stalking and gathering info on the group and using whatever information she gets to use against them. So her plan entirely depends on the information she gets and what the perps do so it's a bit contrived.

Really, she didn't need to spend years prepping to be a teacher and learning Go. She could have found all that information she dug up in other ways. It does seem a bit lacking considering she's devoted 20 years to this plan. She could've spent the 19 years living her life, earning money and just hire a detective for a year to gather info. Now that I think about it, I don't get why she had to insert herself into Do Young's life with Go. If the plan is to just let him know his wife's true face, just send him the evidence. He's shown to be driven to solve puzzles and find the truth. I don't think it matters who tells him what as he'll try to get the facts on his own anyway. Just sending him that one picture sent him all over town asking questions and making him notice things he hadn't before. And that was when he thought Myeong sent it. It could've easily been a pic of Yeon Jin and Jae Joon in a suspect manner and he would've started asking questions too.

Lee dohyun's character is so unnecessary...
I watched the commentary with the cast/crew and the writer said the very first scene she thought of when she wrote this drama is between his character and the FL, and how that scene created the 2 lead characters. The writing failed the ML character. I'm guessing he'll be a bigger deal in S2 but it's too late to start halfway through. Right now, agree-he's a glorified extra there to just give the FL a love interest.

Title The Glory Spoiler
putting my prediction out here before season two in a couple months:The ending of S1 leaves us wondering 1) what…
I see this question all over the place-if Do Young will take Dong Eun's side or his wife and I think there's an obvious 3rd option. Neither. He'll do what he thinks is best for him and some of his actions may help Dong Eun and some will get in the way of her revenge. He probably does feel sorry for Dong Eun and will want to get rid of Yeon Jin from his life but that's probably going to be secondary to his own plans. I don't see him protecting his wife for whatever reason because he doesn't seem like the type to enjoy cleaning up after someone's mess for the rest of his life. She's a ticking time bomb to his life and reputation and to protect that means getting rid of her not protecting her and keeping her by his side.

he helped her because he understood wanting to get revenge on those who severely harmed you, since he fantasizes…
I get that, I just don't buy it. Empathy and relating to someone is one thing, volunteering to be their executioner is something else. He didn't even pause to think about it! Thinking about revenge and deciding to make it reality is worlds apart. It's just super contrived at this point. If this was a 2hr movie I wouldn't bat an eye, but in a 16 episode series lets hope the ML gets some development.

I'm bothered by the plot point of Yeo Jung agreeing to help Dong Eun in her revenge plot point with zero build up or anything about his character we've been shown that would make that make sense. While I was watching it the show didn't feel that slow paced. But after epi 8, I realized it was a lot of talk and no action. They spent 8 episodes setting the stage and nothing else! You would think they could spend part of those 8 episodes on character development but other than Dong Eun, everyone pretty much got shafted. The real standout is the actor who plays Do Young-so much charisma.

I was expecting the revenge aspect to be more blood thirsty? hard core? because the amount of suffering she went through in the first life seemed so over the top that the revenge would need to be extra too to balance the scales. Instead there was this sense of futility to the whole thing that made the revenge much less satisfying.

I actually liked that he let her know and not lead her own. It's actually nice to have the ML have it clear cut…
Oh I agree on him being clear is good. What I meant was that the sibling-hood felt genuine and not just a meaningless bone thrown to the party with unrequited love out of pity. Don't know if it's the script or acting or a combo of both? but I think the bond between HF/CLS is pretty strong and sincere, even if it's not a romantic one and the one CLS was hoping for. Think it was CLS's line about finally having family and not being alone anymore and HF's flashback to when he told her he's been alone since he was a kid that brought it all together, along with their interactions after.

Just caught up with episodes and echoing the general love of the MRF/HF fight in epi. 22. I do wish we got more of MRF/HF on an adventure arc, similar to HF/YZY and CLS. Speaking of the ladies, they're both likeable with their own strengths and for once I'm not annoyed at the "love triangle" or any of the characters involved and hopefully this won't change in the coming episodes. It's hard to make the middle character not come off as wishy washy (like Zhang Wuji in HSDS) or disrespectful to the parties. Yes, HF did sibling-zoned CLS but for people in jianghu, sworn brotherhood/sisterhood is equally important to any other relationship (see MRF and HYD and even at the expense of his romantic relationship lol). And this version portrays HF/CLS in that way pretty well.

The fight scenes are the best thing about this version. Makes me excited about the big gathering of martial artists scenes/events yet to come. Also think this version accurately captures HF who is supposed to be a bit playful, immature, and hotheaded. He is 18? 19? so quite a bit of growing up to do and a contrast to when he shows up in Snowy Mountain. But he's also supposed to be "street smart" and I don't fully get that here but we can't have everything... I like the changes they made to YZY. I never understood why she was so bratty and unreasonable given her character backstory and purpose.

The TGN/NL plot is the biggest negative so far. Maybe if you weren't familiar with the story some would appreciate adding in the shades of grey to their characters? Either way, they sure do take up a lot of airtime. Guessing the writer, director and/or producer really liked the characters. Reserving judgment to see how the later half plays out but still think this would've been better with a shorter episode count.

Title Side Story of Fox Volant Spoiler
MAY CONTAIN SPOILERAlthough I enjoyed the drama and think it has production values, but it also has some flaws…
They might have whitewashed Nan Lan but I don't think the whitewashing of Tian will stick. It's probably just waiting to reveal his evil deeds/true nature because we're only 1/4 through. But I agree, I don't care for the expanded story here or the attempt at making some kind of romantic story line either. Probably expected though with the 40 epis count and the trend towards making all things romance driven.

There is someone listed as Zhao Banshan and Wu Chen but no Chen Jialuo. I don't know maybe they have to be careful with the Red Flower Society plot because it touches on real historical events/figures and so they can run into some censoring issues.

JY should've seen the 1999 version problems coming with the copyrights issue. There are clear elements where you can see they tried to take material from the prequel but couldn't do it straightforwardly so I give them a bit of a break. I think 2006 ver was a way worse offense in terms of how much it changed and how it was changed. And if he ever saw the 2013 version of Smiling Proud Wanderer, he would probably be ok with all the other adaptations of his work lol.

I think in the other versions, they spent more time building the relationship between MRF and the dad? But I don't think the dad's story is going to be told here in any detail.

I hope they do build a strong relationship on some kind of mentor or even brotherhood type so that it's one of the main relationships onscreen aside from the romantic ones. I don't think they'll make it official like having some kind of swearing ceremony but the bond is still there. Like both the actors playing MRF and HF.

I am also confused about this and my recollection is the same as yours, which is it happened when Hu Fei was still…
There is supposed to be a big age gap between Ruolan, and Hu Fei. I'm not exactly sure how much, at least 10 years. Maybe they made the gap bigger. I think I remember him meeting baby Ruolan as a teen? It could be they just wanted QJJ to play that part because I don't think Hu Fei is more than 20? at the end of the prequel and QJJ obviously doesn't look like a teen.

Yes it is a triangle. Cheng Lingsu likes the ML who likes Yuan Ziyi. But he is not meant to be with either of…
Maybe they didn't buy the rights to Snowy Mountain? That happened with TVB's '99 version but the opposite, they got the rights to Snowy but not this prequel so they made up a version of the first story. I could've also sworn there's a separate Snowy Mountain version being remade by another company with other casts.

More than the lack of Ruolan, is the "ending" between MRF and HF. Granted the 2nd part had an open ending anyway but will they leave the ending here totally unresolved or make up an ending.

I said I was old school but not that old to use a song from the 90s as the OST?? I recognized the song as the soundtrack to the 1990 movie A Moment of Romance but later read that it is an homage to the 1991? version theme song. What is up with this trend of remakes using old songs from older versions?

Maybe I'm old school cause the fight scenes looked promising with hand-to-hand combat, and swords that actually make contact during the fights. Prefer that than a fight where they're practically in different cities slashing at air? mosquitoes? shadows? Heroes had some good scenes and some bad ones but overall thought it was more about showing off fancy camerawork vs focusing on the actual choreography. WoH had good choreo but the slo-mo was really overkill. The last one I remember liking is the latest LOCH but it's been a few years so my memory could be faulty.

I wonder how they are gonna squeeze 40 episodes out of what was a super short 10 chapter Jin Yong novel...
That was the Snowy Mountain novel. The prequel while still really short compared to other JY stories is a bit longer. But definitely not 40-epis long! I'm guessing they'll do what the others have done even with combining the 2 novels,-fill it up with made-up side characters stories. I saw some palace scenes in the trailer and I don't remember any big palace plot in the book. The book had plenty of fight scenes so even if they just keep those scenes, it'll still be a win. But watch it end up being that all the fight scenes are in the trailer and we're going to get 39 epis of xianxia-level melodrama .

I've been burned by sleek trailers so not even going to expect anything from it. But I'm looking forward to the Hu Yi Dao/Miao Ren Feng scenes. Both look so manly and working that facial hair. I hope the 2 female leads characters are close to the book. In the adaptations I've seen, they made all the female characters to be as annoying as possible when the source wasn't that way. Didn't see enough of them in the trailer to judge.
