He's evil but he's got the typical sad childhood drama that the majority of villains nowadays get to explain why he was "forced" down his path. He pretty much killed his dad, brother, wife, son etc. He is sincere with XiChen though and is the only one he's not willing to hurt. WWX initially thought he was the mastermind behind some of the past events and the present day mystery and chaos.
NHS, to get revenge for his brother who JGY killed, is the real mastermind of all the present day stuff. He's the one that plotted for WWX to be able to come back, just so he can use WWX and Wangji to do his dirty work because he knows that he can't beat JGY. So he pretty much uses them and anyone else in his way to reveal JGY's dirty deeds and find his brother's body.

Well...it was kinda worth watching cause I have a Zhang Ming En bias lol. But now that I've seen the story play out to the climax, not really. I will still probably catch the ending but I'm giving it up till then. So let's just say episodes 2-32 was worth it and call it a day.
Just like I suspected they would, they made the female lead so dumb. The reasons you listed for him is true. There's no way any sane woman would ever trust that guy again. But at the same time, the stunts she pulled, there's no way a guy would ever trust her again either and I didn't expect that. And that's why I'm mad at the show. The guy is irredeemable but I could have rooted for him to try. It's a little bit satisfying when the wronged party receives some groveling and I was looking forward to some suffering and big time groveling. Now they've made both sides irredeemable, there's nothing to root for.
Some might think it just makes them even stevens but they made both sides too far gone.
Did Gao Jie actually do anything wrong apart from lying to him about her aunt?
Well it's repeatedly lying to him over and over again about a bunch of things. I think he did give her about a million opportunities to come clean but she didn't. And they really didn't give her a good enough reason not to. But C-dramas like to throw the female characters under the bus and make them dumb.
And I think she signed over the company shares to her aunt, but this part hasn't played out yet so not sure. That would be a big betrayal to him. That said, the deliberate public dumping is still a jerk move. A real gentleman wouldn't do that. The anger is justified, he just shouldn't have taken it public.
Ok the leads relationship is so messed up now. Because individually they’re both hot messes. I do like that they’re both wrong and screw up and both have reasons for being the way they are. But I think he took it too far. So he finds out her secret and instead of confronting her, he lets her hang herself with it and sets her up for public humiliation. He could’ve just broken up with her in private and he would be in the right cause she did lie and kept on lying. But I can see why she has trust issues too. And then this dude goes and destroys her in public. So messy.
When XF was dying, she asked LXY to fulfill her third wish, to live on after her death. In my opinion it was a…
See I thought she made him promise to live because she didn't want another death to be laid at her door. I think XF clearly lives with a lot of guilt for her part in her family's death, and GJ and A'Du and she couldn't hate LCY. I only thought that cause I'm reminded of the scene in Journey of Flower when HQG cursed BZH to live forever and that was clearly with hate lol. This was more gentle? And LCY didn't even suffer that much. He deluded himself into believing she wasn't dead so he didn't have to live with guilt every day
5 min in and Im not feeling it. It starts out with the dood passing judgement without even talking to her about…
They do what they always do-throw the female under the idiot bus so the guy is "justified" in being a big ol' jerk. That said, I'm oddly hooked once you get past the first 6 or so episodes of cheesy awkwardness. It might be cause of Zhang Ming En, but I find their relationship pretty sweet until I'm reminded of the 1st scene like right now
