Wei Wuxian

SuoWei’s mother dies and he’s despondent. Chi Cheng is watching him from afar because he knows how devastated SuoWei will be and still loves him like crazy. While watching SuoWei, he eventually approaches him in his office and mocks him at first, but there’s no heat to it and he drops that act quickly after SuoWei starts crying. The period of giving SuoWei everything he wants without limits to comfort him begins (and the reconciliation period- which is crazy hot). I believe they were separated for 2 months in the novel.

In the scenes rolling while the end credits play, SuoWei is sitting by himself on a bench in the rain. The person who approaches him isn’t Chi Cheng at the time, but Wang Zhen. I don’t know who it will be in the series.

He may be confident up to EP 15, but his insecurities over the ex win/defeat him in the end. So much angst awaits us. I’m relatively sure that the breakup era lasts a few episodes at least, since it takes up a good portion of the novel. There’s another major blow to SuoWei in the novel before they make up that looks like is being set up in EP14 and 15. It’s the catalyst for them reconciling. We shall see how far they take it.

Yeah. I had originally omitted that part, but it’s necessary for context. I think it’ll be part of the series because it explains why he’d do that.

There’s so much during the breakup era that happens though.

In the novel, Wu SuoWei actually likes Wang Shuo and considers him a victim. He also idolizes his brother Wang Lian/Zhen. He works to find proof of his innocence and clear him, despite Wang Shuo saying he will still do him dirty. He eventually finds the evidence in video recordings. He also develops idol worship of Wang’s brother, causing Cheng to be hella jealous. He sings Wang Lian’s praises even in front of Chi Cheng (he’s purposely giving Chi Cheng a good reason to break up so he can be with the one he “clearly” loves and also truly admires Wang Lian), provoking him- going so far as to do things behind his back with regard to Wang Lian. Sowing more seeds of doubt for a cleaner break he’s already anticipating once he reveals Wang Shuo’s innocence to Chi Cheng.

After seeing how successful Wu SuoWei is, Yue Yue (I know- this scum hasn’t disappeared- yet) tries to trick Wu’s mother into believing that they were always talking even though they broke up but that they love each other and should be together. Ma Wu doesn’t fall for it and tells Chi Cheng so, revealing the name. Chi Cheng immediately goes to check for proof in Wu SuoWei’s things at the clinic, discovering the pictures in the box and the notes Wu SuoWei wrote about his plan for revenge despite his master’s warnings not to do so. When Wu shows up with proof that ChengYu and Wang Shuo didn’t sleep together, this confrontation happens. Chi Cheng asks him if he ever loved him, even for a second, and if so he will forgive everything. Wu SuoWei, who already believes Chi Cheng’s heart fully belongs to Wang Shuo and has lost hope for he and Chi Cheng because of the toxic words spoken by Wang Shuo, admits to the planning, says he never loved Chi Cheng, and plans to get back with Yue Yue (he does not). Thus we enter the break up stage.

When Chi Cheng watches the video later, he realizes Wang Shuo and ChengYu never slept together but were made to look like they did to break that friendship up- all out of Wang Shuo’s jealousy (there’s a video of young and drunk Chi Cheng and ChengYu being goaded into kissing each other by Wang Shuo- but the two share a really passionate kiss, making Wang Shuo doubt and become jealous of them- the catalyst to all the drama between them). Chi Cheng finally tells him that he doesn’t love him, shattering Wang Shuo’s hopes of reconciliation completely. He also reconciles with ChengYu- as best friends only.

The breakup era is still very strong and Wu SuoWei retreats to his mother’s house. Chi Cheng is colder than ever in interactions with others.

This is a really short summary of the breakup era, which lasts many many chapters (I want to say about 20ish). There are some super sad moments for Wu SuoWei- if the series follows the novel in this manner.

The makeup is hot af though. Very hot and also very sweet. Chi Cheng initiates it. 😉

It’s extra great casting when you know that in the novel, he’s like a snake pied piper, loterally commanding snakes to him like a snake charmer. In the novel, he looks at ChengYu’s most venomous snake and mentions wanting it. Shortly after leaving, the snake goes missing and Wang Zi is all panicky but ChengYu says not to worry because he knows the snake went crazy to follow Wang Shuo. He def gives that vibe in this episode even if they cut that scene.

He’s there. He’s labeled as guest and his game is Wang Zhen in the cast list. 😊

Wu SuoWei will definitely hurt before this is over if it follows the novel, as this leads to the breakup era.

Yeah, I also quickly throw away the idea that I will wait a week or so to binge through the breakup era. I’d have to completely disconnect from social media- no! I’d have to bury all my internet-connecting devices for a week or so. I’m resigned to suffer with the rest of the fandom. We can comfort each other and over-analyze every scene and face muscle twitch together. 😉

Except as our doctor said, both are tops and not good matches for each other, even while thinking ChengYu is in unrequited love for his best friend Chi Cheng.

She has no clue in the novel.

Yes, but only because next to Chi, her son would be lacking in others’ eyes so she didn’t want him to be compared as less than by others.

There are translations posted by others. My translation app says this, basically:

🐍: Why did you leave suddenly back then? Why did it take seven years to come back? You have the nerve to book a room with him (not sure what this means from my direct translation)? I have no face to stay and commit humiliation. After leaving, why did you come back?

The novel is crazy. I’m on chapter 201, which is past the break up era- which was sad for both of them but especially for Wu. I actually felt bad for Wang Shuo by the end of it all. Yue Yue has no shame, and ChengYu is the ultimate schemer. No real surprise there.

I’m finding it hilarious that the novel describes Wang Shuo as “ordinary,” “gloomy and thin.” (Just read it) The series version is definitely NOT ordinary, gloomy, or thin. I need to see how they portray Wang Zhen.

After finally getting to this chapter in the novel, I understand that the first and second scenes in the preview for EP15 are right after the last scene in EP14. Wang Shuo is indeed shameless- the clothes are the same. The convo between the 3 “friends” is similar. And I’m still confused. Chapter 158 if anyone is curious. Wang Shuo’s brother Wang Zhen really is something else in the novel though. Definitely a psycho. I see from the cast list that there is a Wang Zhen, which means we get to see this new, more tame version of him soon and I can’t wait.

It is indeed ABO on the tire and I can’t help but feel it’s a subtle advertisement in support.

The preview for EP15 is out. No English subtitles yet but I screenshotted each sentence and translated it with Google. (Yes, my obsession remains strong). The interaction between Chi Cheng and Wang Shuo makes me dislike Wang Shuo so much more. And the interaction between ChengYu and XiaoShuai super cute. Of course the cheek kiss has to happen after ChengYu is pouting. But letting the notorious ex of your friend’s boyfriend sleep at your house?! 👀 I’m sure it was his doctor kindness, but still.
