Among the many villains, I think there are at least two that stand out. First, Wei Yan (played by Yan Yi Kuan in drama) and Qi Min (played by Deng Kai in drama). Interestingly, in my opinion, these two villains walk on grey path. Yes, they scheming bad, killed many and do many bad things, but they had their own painful backstory
First, Wei Yan. He is current Chancellor, hold absolute power in court, at least until the beginning of the novel he still powerful. The current Emperor was kind of puppet. Wei Yan made him ascend the throne 16 years ago. Wei Yan happened to be also Xie Zheng’s uncle from his mother and Xie Zheng’s father best friend. Xie Zheng grew up with Wei Yan when his father killed 16 years ago at Battle of Jinzhou. Wei Yan was very harsh with Xie Zheng. Xie Zheng’s father died along with Crown Prince Chengde and whole army. Wei Yan put all the blame to Fan Changyu’s grandfather, killed Old Emperor and choose young Prince to sit on throne. The backstory… it was an ugly palace politics, involve Old Emperor, his beloved Consort Jia and 16th Prince (Consort Jia son). Old Emperor was the one who scheme, causing Jinzhou tragedy and want to put the blame on Wei Yan. Then Wei Yan scheming back, shift the blame on Fan Changyu’s grandfather and on the process, Wei Yan killed many. Also, the backstory, Wei Yan love his sister very much. Being harsh with Xie Zheng was in order to harden him. He said to his steward, if I don’t harden him, I’d be sending him to be slaughtered. If he’s not ruthless, he’ll never sit on my position
Second, Qi Min. Qi Min real identity was Crown Prince Chengde’s son. So, by right he should be the one who sit the throne after his father died. But, 16 years ago because of Jinzhou tragedy, power on court shift to Wei Yan. Then his Empress mother orchestra a fire at eastern palace, burn herself and intentionally burn Qi Min’s face and swap him with enemy’s son. This 16 years Qi Min live painfully as Sui Yuan Huai (eldest son of King Changxin – Great Xia’s enemy). Now, he wants to fight back the throne, even if he had to killed his own people, make a war with Great Xia using King Changxin’s army. The backstory… Qi Min was only 4 years old when his father CP Chengde died. Formerly playful child, now he saw his mother always crying and people in Eastern Palace were constantly died. Later, his mother orchestra fire and pressed Qi Min face to charcoal brazier then she perishes with fire while from her lips said ‘survive’. That time Qi Min manage be alive and get out from palace, but he only thought it hurts so much, living is too painful and it would be better to die. For 16 years he endured phantom of pain, walk on thin ice. He often felt that this was no different from being dead, but he couldn’t die. His life was what his mother trade with her own in order for him one day could claim back the throne.
So, who the real villain that start this tragedy? Maybe I would say Old Emperor. Although he won’t have as many screen time as Wei Yan and Qi Min, but he was the root of palace conspiracy & tragedy
Based on novel, Yes. However her ability not jianghu/ wuxia like with qing gong or lightening skill. ML master in qing gong but not FL. FL ability more with close combat, rely on speed and her decisiveness. She not inferior to many, only with some master in wuxia. This also because in novel FL was a transmigrators, in her previous life, she was a modern special force soldier
For drama, I don't know. I hear Bai Lu got sick while filming Mo Li, limit her movement. But based on trailer, seems like FL will have some fight. Maybe we will get to see a bit of her martial arts

Yeah, I still invest that we could watch Zhuyu at snow seasons but after this I think I need to lower my expectation. Just pray to drama God to surprise me

So, He thought if his daughter Princess Changle make an honorable political marriage, then she must sided with other country. If marry to other noble family in Great Chu, she must make her husband family together with Hua family give Him trouble. That's why He 'give' her to make Hua family lose face

Very much agree. There were hundreds character, each somehow connected. The story not only about usual historical palace drama with politics, scheming and war, but also about jianghu world and not mention there was small part about tomb raider. Typical drama will stop at win the war then time jump to couple minutes of happy ending with main lead's child as guest star. If they follow the novel, there still long way after their firstborn; bigger war, bigger scheme. Honestly, first, I don't know how the team could weave all the story into <40 episodes. But after the trailer, I have confidence the team will squeeze it well, change the necessary and create a masterpiece!

Hi, I'm reading the novel right now, too and haven't finish yet. From my understanding (other may correct it)... The first Prince Ding was brother of founding Emperor. After three generations Next Prince Ding Mo Liufang (MXY's father) help young Emperor executed corrupt officials and support him as Prince Regent until young Emperor sixteenth then resign. In 29 year of young Emperor, Mo Liufang dead of illness. Mo Xiuwen (MXY's brother) as eldest son inherit the title, ordered to campaign against barbarians but died of illness. Then 18 years old MXY inherit the title continue the war. It also mention somewhere in novel that by generation although MXY and current Emperor & Prince Li similar in age but MXY should be one generation above

Comments for novel. Beware Spoilers!
1. I love to see FL’s growth. From a girl of a small town into a female general of a nation. From someone who thought to be low in status into someone who can stand by ML’s side openly and honorably
2. I lost count by how many times ML injured. Not a simple one but bloody wounds that could cost his life, but thanks God he is that strong. He wounded by many kinds of scenario from schemed by his own uncle, ambushed by enemy, saved his cared one, purified the sword to punished himself
3. We get great amounts of battle and fighting scenes. Novel tells it quite in detail not only with action but also with strategies. I wish drama can film everything well and don't turn it into some kind of narrative only
4. We get a quite good amounts of intimate scenes too. But honestly, just like some people, I’m not fan of these because it’s a rough one and repeated. He kissed her without consent, fortunately he didn’t force to do the deed without consent. He still thinks for her dignity until the very later almost end part of novel when both consents, but again it’s a rough one that I didn’t like. I believe NRTA wouldn’t permit those scenes, I only hope drama not delete all, just tone it down, make it smooth please
5. Author could hide the truth of the past in layering way so we would know it little by little – half from this side, half from that side – throughout the novel until the final truth in the end, which for me interesting. After finish, I found some villain walk on grey path which I cannot blindly hate and blame them

Yeah, I’m the next person who finish the novel while waiting for the drama. After I finished it, I'm getting more excited to see the drama, especially after I saw Qixi clip from @Enigma05. Thanks to you! Sooner will be better. Overall, novel is not too long, the English translation is quite good and the plot is very engaging. It’s easy to finish it and we get a happy ending!
