He didn't kill himself. He left Daesan, which was his life long goal. As it harmed him both physically and mentally.
Did you forget the scene where Dong Ju had a nightmare of Yeom Jang shooting him? Then, when he woke up, he saw Il Do, who said, “If you keep that thing (the gun) under your pillow and sleep, you're bound to have nightmares,” and advised him to throw it away. Since the male lead had used that gun to harm others, it might end up harming him someday.
So, in accordance with his father’s wish, after scattering his ashes in the sea, he wanted to throw the gun into the ocean, at the very location where he was once shot by Il Do with that same gun he had been sleeping with. This moment symbolized closure to his long-standing guilt and fear from the past.
In a way, Dong Ju was erasing his past, leaving Daesan, scattering the ashes, throwing away the gun that had caused so much harm. He was letting go of everything that had hurt him, his father, the gun, and the company. It was a poetic end.
I had a feeling this is how it would end, and honestly, it makes sense. But somehow, I lost interest during the final episode. There was no epic showdown, no dramatic payoff. I get that I shouldn’t have expected something overly cinematic or exaggerated, it’s clear they wanted to keep the ending grounded and realistic, more like how things would actually play out in real life.
But even with that intention, it still felt a bit underwhelming. After everything the characters went through, I was hoping for a little more emotional closure or impact. It wasn’t a bad ending, just a quiet one, and maybe a little too quiet for such a complex story.
This drama deserves at least 8.0. I haven't seen such a complex yet interesting story for a while. They took some liberty in writing (ML's part), I agree that. But they stayed true to the plot. All the characters were well written, they had their own arcs. I agree that the last few episodes were let down.. The writers wanted to close the story, but they didn't properly phase it. The story was progressing towards the end.. and suddenly it became a slice of life. That was it. You can feel the writers becoming exhausted to write the finishing part. This story was too complex to end in one season.
It's kind of like a Disney fairy tale romance, since ML is basically immortal. He survived dying four times, so of course it would have a happy ending.
The story is complex. To understand some of the twists, you need to understand each character. That’s all. It’s engaging and fast-paced. You won’t find any dull moments. There are few to no unintentional or filler scenes. So, you should give this a try
Lee soo hyuk, this would be a big boost for his career even though he has s-line coming up which is webseries.
He has a serious face. I’ve never seen him do anything funny. It will be tougher for him. Producers don’t experiment with main leads in big-budget drama.
