I fell asleep twice watching the first half of this show😅😅. When I did watch it I was watching on 1.5x because why is this show so baaaad! The subtitles did not make sense, to add to my suffering 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️. It all feels so half baked
I dunno 🤷🏽♀️ if it’s just me but I am struggling now post time hop with the pacing and how they are using the source material. The amnesia plot is there but somehow it lacked the intensity of the novel, like they were literally being chased by a car in the novel! Little Jane not wanting Big Jane’s help red flag 🚩 like the whole moving house etc just doesn’t make sense especially as they will likely move back in next episode!! The only thing I can say is Big Jane has me glued, the man is hot 🔥. I miss the pacing, mystery and intensity of the first few episodes.

It’s the source material I think 🤔. In my view I reckon they did a good job of adapting it when it came to this story line because in book I was questioning all sorts of things. But I agree unless we have a time hop we are going to struggle to fit in the other story line.
Okay!!! I enjoyed this show- finished episode 12 I think they could have done a lot better with it but am still okay with how they used the source material. There were too many flashbacks in that last episode..
The struggles were too much please!! like how much or many tangarines do we need! I couldn’t finish it I tried. The high rating is questionable but different opinions I suppose. The kids seemed like spoiled brats in differing degrees but still spoiled nonetheless. You can clearly see your family situation so you work and strive for better accept help where help is offered and move on.

I felt the same way at first, but I actually think Xiao Fan changes quite a lot as the story progresses. He starts challenging his family more and doesn’t simply accept Lu Qing’s behaviour anymore. Even when he goes back to him, I don’t think he’s the same person he was at the beginning.
I also think we need to look at what Xiao Fan is dealing with a family that constantly undermines and uses him, and in-laws who do much the same in a different way. He desperately wants to strike out on his own but is constantly weighed down by family obligations.
And I think Lu Qing changes too. In the later episodes we see much more emotion from him; the way he clearly claims Xiao Fan, the little affectionate touches, their identical apartments, and the way he expresses his love more through actions than words. He isn’t suddenly openly romantic, but his feelings become much clearer.
The lack of communication between them is frustrating 😂, but I think we also have to ask how free are they really to communicate openly? Xiao Fan is married to Lu Qing’s sister, after all. Their situation is incredibly complicated.
I also think it helps to view the story in the context of early-90s China. Family duty, marriage, reputation and expectations carried enormous weight. If we judge everything purely through a modern Western lens, I think we miss some of the subtlety of both characters.
They’re both frustrating at times 😂, but I think there’s actually quite a lot of development happening beneath the surface. You will love the next episode
I have mixed feelings about the time transition. I was expecting a bit more push pull between them. They definitely changed the novel in this dramatisation in a good way because eish the novel had me questioning all sorts of things. Little Jane was wearing his heart on his sleeve and Big Jane was all emotional eyes loved it. Big Jane was super hot, dressed to the nines my kind of CEO. Little Jane’s stylist needs to find him clothes that fit please. Looking forward to more and curious to see what else they have changed from the novel!!
