On My Cherie Amour Oct 26, 2024
Currently on episode 3.
I've scarcely watched any straight romance from Thailand and this one caught my eyes because of the nonsensical title. Doesn't make any sense neither in French nor in English but MY GOD it is pretty!!!!

First time time watching this actress as well. She's drop dead gorgeous. Her face reminds me of Korean actress Song Hye Gyo. Anyway, just wanted to drop by to say that this is one of the best Thai series I've seen in a while. It's romantic and cheesy but not to the point of being cringe. The main leads are too pretty for words ( especially yaya) and the costumes...
My God the costumes... B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L
Also, it doesn't look cheap for once. I'm loving this.

I spoiled myself episode 10 and 11 so I know what to expect... But I've also bought the book on MEB
(btw I don't for how long the deal is up but for those of you who speak thai or are learning the language, you can currently get four books ... including this one for the price of only one book ( I haven't checked if it's by the same author but my guess is no based on the covers), so grab it while it's still available if you're interested: https://www.mebmarket.com/ebook-327678-SET-4-%E0%B8%AD%E0%B8%A1%E0%B8%95%E0%B8%B0%E0%B8%A7%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%93%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%A1%E0%B9%80%E0%B8%AD%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%82%E0%B8%AD%E0%B8%87%E0%B8%94%E0%B8%AD%E0%B8%81%E0%B9%84%E0%B8%A1%E0%B9%89%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%94
)

[I copy pasted the direct link but some characters are in thai and it gave that when pasted sorry... dunno if it works. If it doesn't, just copy paste the title of the thai novel here, then click on the name of the author and you should be redirected to the deal in question]

Anyway I quickly checked and based on the book... What happens in episode 11 is at the end of chapter 33 if I'm not mistaken...
Except the book is only 35 chapters long...

And based on what I've spoiled myself, I really want to see Wichai showing more openly his feelings to Anong ( and suffer a bit just because I prefer when the guy is pursuing the woman first and here we got a reversal... so I want Anong's feelings to be better reciprocated - but again I'm only on episode 3 but I've spoiled myself a couple/dozens of scenes here and there... well everywhere and this is how I feel so far) because it feels like she's the only putting herself out there. The ending is like super rushed in the novel seriously. It's frustrating.

There's 8 episodes left so I'm guessing/HOPING they're not gonna be faithful to the end of the novel and show Wichai fight for his love and making up for all the hurtful things he said to Anong.
Can't see how he did it though. If I was a man, my brain would probably malfunction as soon as she gave me even half a glance.

Also I HATE Wichai's mother, I hope Wichai abandons her by the end of the series... But this is a lakorn and from what I've heard, it has the same type of very frustrating shitty characters that get an undeserved redemption at the end like in most Korean family dramas ( reason why I no longer bother with them btw).

So, I'm talking on my own since most people have seen this drama but reaching the end of episode 4... I really don't get the outcry for the supposed "cheating".
Sure Jai seems to have some feelings for Teh, but he's been very clear, he's planning to go to New York so I'm not a professional, but if my future relied on the performance of my actors, I sure would do anything for them to get properly into their role. After all, it's the actors' job to distinguish between what's fiction and what's real ( and yes lots of them get things confused at some point given how many times actors start relationships after meeting on set but that's another story).

Anyway, Teh and Oh are as far as I'm concerned, a couple doomed even before they started to go out together. But after university, it's very clear they would be better of with somebody else. One could say Teh did emotionally cheat, but feelings can't be controlled。 What is Oh exactly feeling except staying with Teh out of habit? There is no way to feel anything for Oh in this whole drama, we've barely seen him and he's clinging for the sake of clinging. As for Teh, he's a coward that can't call it quits even when he knows his heart is no longer there. At this point, I no longer care for any of them.

I'm going to end this show with the same level of frustration I got with the first season (see personal review), though I'm probably going to rate this slightly lower than the first one. I do think it's better, but I'm just so fed up with both their attitudes that I just don't feel like giving higher ratings.

I don’t know, am I the only one who didn’t love this? I struggled with the first two episodes and then went…
You're not the only one. I didn't dislike it per say but I wouldn't rave about it either. I pretty much have the same opinion. Great cinematography, good acting and production value but average story.

So...
Currently reaching the end of ep 3 where the whole thing happenned. I wasn't rooting for Teh and Oh in the first place even after the first part so this doesn't come as a surprise. I know Teh doesn't end up with the person he cheated with, but it's very clear that they definitely have more in common' than Teh and Oh. Life goes on, people change. This drama is set over many years in which Teh and Oh have lived more apart than together since both are very busy with their lives. It's a given they're bound to drift away at some point even if Oh is clearly more attached to Teh... for reasons I didn't understand in the first part nor in this one.

I guess the fact that I personally was never attached to this couple in the first place makes the whole cheating pretty meh in terms of emotional impact. I don't even feel anything for Oh at this point because this drama is terribly unbalanced. We've spent more time with Teh in more than half the drama than with Oh at this point so as far as I dont condone his actions, I can still understand his position. Should have broken up before the cheating though.

In fact, I'd argue the second part is actually way better than the first in spite of the "ugliness" due to the fact that it's no longer in Chiangmai but in Bangkok. The cinematography is still topnotch... But the nostalgic feel and pretty scenery is gone so part of the original charm is lost.

Anyway, that's my thoughts reaching the end of episode 3. I'm one of the few who thought that ITSAY was an ok drama with great cinematography and beautiful scenery and little more so I'm not disappointed nor heartbroken.

On The Blue Whisper: Part 1 Oct 8, 2024
Took me about 10 episodes to really get into the story, but now I'm hooked ^^
The CGIs are nice but it's not the highest value in terms of production. Scenery is a bit repetitive and obviously fake but the story makes up for it.

Currently finishing episode 14 and WHY SO CRUEL SHOW!

My God Poor Chang Yi is so naive, it hurts so so so SO BAD. My God, do the Chinese love their tragedy. There's not a single Wuxia I've gotten into, that doesn't break your heart at some point, it hurts SO BAD but it's SO GOOD.

I want to spoil myself the rest of the series but I WILL RESIST!

Well I don't know which translation you're talking about... But the french part were just very awkward. It was like listening to somebody who was learning french at a beginner's level and making up sentences. The actors accent was SO THICK that even I couldn't understand them as a native French speaker (they should have dubbed them)

In episode 15 the actress is screaming in French " Tu auras affaire à moi" - You'll have to deal with me!

Yet the transcription in French was " Il y va y avoir un mort" - Somebody's gonna end up dead ... Or something around those lines.

It was pretty jarring because this one was of the few sentences that could be understood through that thick accent and they couldn't even get that right.

The English was also pretty awful so that might explain that as well.

Btw, I'm not making fun of the actors. But since they're supposed to be fluent, particularly the mother, the least they should have done, is just dub the actors. It would have made these scenes way less ridiculous.

Since you are new to historical dramas i recommend: Mr Queen, Scarlet Heart, Tale of nokdu, Under the queens umbrella
I've watched it ( If you're curious about which shows I've seen my MDL list is up to date). It was my first historical from China and it was a 10/10 for me as well ^^

Lol Red Sleeve... I stayed away from any historical for over a year after that one. Was traumatized. It was a good series, but I'm never going to rewatch ever again.

Cowardice can always be justified if you look through other people's lens. But at the end of the day, the message of the movie is the consequences of inaction and conformism. Doing the right thing makes you stand out and you end up being the looser just like what happened to the teacher. At the end of the day, if you 're a coward you face no consequences and you can keep on living your life, if you try to challenge things, you're going to be punished by Society for it.
That cowardice from classmates to adults led to the death of two children who didn't know better. In front of adults who were all lying and conforming, they never felt the environment was safe enough for them to be honest which led to their deaths. They made some stupid choices but we're not supposed to expect children to be bright.

Seems to me you didn't understand what I meant.

As I said, it's a very good movie. But I didn't like it notably because it's in fact too realistic. It's "ordinary evilness". Closing your eyes and ears to others' pleas because you don't want your own peace to be disturbed.

i absolutely agree this show is a masterpiece but the length of the episodes is what’s been holding me back…
Lol well... I actually ended up rating it down... Some things just didn't sit well for me on the first watch... But it was actually worse on the rewatch... So I say, if you loved it the first time... Keep your best memory of it and don't rewatch it. Sometimes it's better to keep your golden memories golden, so to speak.

The ending was definitely rushed, but I’m so glad Nan & Nam are together! I really loved this drama - especially…
Thanks for this spoiler.
I read a comment some weeks ago asking if it was a HE in the novel and somebody else answering Sam ended with Fah... which is why I waited for the series to end to be sure they changed the end.
I can now safely start this series ^^Thank you :D

Title Love Next Door Spoiler
Went back on my words and came back on this thread ... only to see people getting personal just because some people disagree with the decisions of this or that character or criticize this drama. Blablabla, get rid of your fantasies (Isn't Rom Com' THE GENRE for fantasies ? Ah sorry, forgot the tag was wrong so... there's that). Of course, if you disagree, it's because you want characters to be perfect and you have no appreciation for nuanced portrayals 🙄🙄🙄🙄 Poor immature souls.
And I'm saying this as someone who likes the series (so far)... Oh. And I'm also in my late 30s, so that's another point for my immaturity I guess. Though in my book, being critical of something doesn't necessarily mean you're throwing the whole thing under the bus, otherwise you'd have already dropped the show so here.

In you want realistic, any sane girl would have stayed with the ex instead of going to the childhood friend. Because sorry but he's been very overbearing for a while now. You can't do this and that even warned the ex not to get to touchy feely ( dude, that's too late for that, do you think they only kissed when they were in the US?). Ah! And now he doesn't do friendship anymore, so basically, she can't say no.

SURE!

'Course he pulled away a couple of years ago to protect himself, which is completely understandable, after all, he didn't know she was sick. But actions have consequences, if you want flawed and realistic, the moment he made that choice, their relationship was doomed.

Second doom is when you start to get pushy with your feelings when the girl is being swayed by the dude who STAYED WITH HER through her CANCER AND DEPRESSION? Wouldn't it be better for you to just wait for her to make her own decision. If she goes back to him, you have nothing to say, if she decides to truly end it here, then you have your last chance. Don't screw it. But don't act like you have any right on who she can see and when. She's not your property.

The only reason everyone is giving Seung Hyo a pass, and that includes me, is because it's Jung Hae In, he's drop dead gorgeous and he's end-game anyway so better support what is bound to happen instead of disagreeing with it all the way. Even being understanding of his flaws as a character, Seok Ryu's decision to reject the fiancée and be with him is not a "realistic portrayal" unless you're into unhealthy relationships. These two are not yet together and look at how he behaves?
In reality, these are already little red flags thrown your way that this person is going to turn really controlling the more time you spend together especially once he's your boyfriend and he considers he's got "rights" over you.
Doesn't bode well for when they'll be really together but don't worry, it's a K Drama, it's selling you a fantasy in spite of all the crying and even if the ML's attitude screams "red flag" he's never going to be "red" because you can't have a "red ML". He can be overly jealous... But he's never going to cross a line he shouldn't have ( such as err, looking through the bag of the girl he likes for instance? But Seok Ryu also looked through his things so I guess they're perfect for each other?)

Anyway let's be clear, the ex's way better. His biggest fault is only to have done as Seok Ryu wanted and not tell her family. He shouldn't have even if she disagreed.

So this time I'm truly definitely out of this thread, I'm going to watch this quietly and not read any comments where people voicing their grievances are attacked on a personal level and only people liking this show 1000% are welcome. Because as much as I'm still liking this show, it is as flawed as its characters. This should give room for people to discuss about their disagreements about these characters decisions (or lack thereoff) but unfortunately, when you're tagged "immature", "stuck in Ryu Seon Jae's fantasy" and so on and so forth (an argument I've seen from both both people who like and dislike this show for that matter), discussions are doomed from the start.

PS: Also, let's tag this show "SF, Action, Mistery" and see how you react because I'm tired of that argument that a "rom com doesn't have to be happy-go-lucky all the time". This is at best a dramedy (if I'm being VERY lenient), at worst Melo but if you want to see what's a rom com', well there's one airing actually on the same channel on Monday and Tuesday...

Sorry to say but tags are important.

TVN never told us it was ROM-COM tho.
Well it's not that's the main issue but this topic has been argued extensively here. There's no need to argue about it any further.
