Just cause it looks like some people are confused, for clarity, I'm almost sure that the comment was just adding on to the original comment. They weren't themself calling Sailom annoying, at least, not to my understanding. I think it's meant to be read like:

"Calling someone with a HUGE traumatic past a spoiled brat (or that his trauma is annoying) honestly blows my mind."

I love Victor in HL. I loved that version of that character in relation to his dynamic with Sang Zhi. However, for something more romance heavy, I prefer Bai Jing Ting in this one as it is more emotional and I enjoy how expressive Bai Jing Ting is with his eyes. I was sad too when I first heard about this BUT Bai Jing Ting is a great choice (and I think better for this)

I can only answer for myself in that regard. I think it does get better, I love the progression of the story. I also wasn't super into it in the beginning but I got more hooked as it went on. I enjoy their cute moments and their romance a lot. However, if you're not feeling it, that's kind of up to you if you want to give it another couple episodes or just drop it. I can only say I loved it.

It is a slowburn, but you see the romance building before than. I think officially, it's ep 18. I mean, it's not much of a difference from HL in that regard. I think HL was maybe 2-3 episodes before that. It just feels longer because the tone of the series is different. It's heavier so it feels slower, whereas HL is cuter.

I don't think he's quiet and cold. Especially when you look at the flashbacks, you can see his personality shine better. I think it just feels that way because of his relationship with Yifan. I still see the childishness/cheekiness in him, It's just more subtle.

Even though they are based on novels in the same universe, each series has a different team so there are going to be inconsistencies between the two. I would say in terms of the depiction of characters and events, this one aligns better with the source material. The differences in portrayal of characters can also be attributed to perspective. Sang Zhi vs Sang Yan.

This tone-down San Yan is actually a lot closer to the one in the novels. This is just my thought and how I choose to understand it, but the differences can also be explained by perspective. Hidden Love is more his sister perspective and characterization of him, so some traits are more exaggerated. This one is more how either Yifan or himself sees the world around him. At least, that's what I think explains the differences in how the characters/family are perceived.

Yeah, based on work of the same author within the same universe, but different vibe. Sometimes, when series are related, we expect a similar tone, but this is one of those exceptions. The First Frost deals with some heavier things/emotions with a few lighter/cute moments sprinkled about. Typically, the world is a reflection of the character's heart. The FL in this one has lived a much different life than the FL of Hidden Love, hence darker and more gloomy.

Just finished this and I liked it a lot. I really liked the FL. Very upright, very kind, smart, mentally strong, and very cute. ML is very cool too. Good balance of cool heroic general and cute husband with puppy-face expressions. Loved all the different supporting characters as well and the different relationship dynamics. Very sweet, very satisfying. =)

Ahoy! Thanks for reading. Yesss! The series definitely has a nice romantic ambiance/atmosphere to it throughout with so many nice moments. It sets up and builds the vibe very well. If I didnt have a million things to watch, I would be all over rewatching this, but alas, I must wait, haha

Thanks! Haha, yeah, I tend to think about things a lot sometimes so reviews give me a chance to yap and empty my brain out a bit. And this one gave me a lot to think about. After seeing it, I think it's worth the praise. Very beautiful in a lot of aspects and great characters.

I really like a lot of the moments where Yan and Yifan learn about each other's past/feelings. To pick a lighter moment out of those, I liked Zhi doing little sister things and exposing how Yan lied in the past to spend time with Yifan. (Episode 7 where she tells Yifan about the one time she pretended to be lost)

Damn, they both look great, love both their outfits. They look like they just escaped from a manhua.

Regarding this part: "An original and emotional proposal scene scene. It was beautiful!"

I cannot express how much I appreciate an imperfect proposal scene. A lot of dramas I have seen show the ML being very smooth and cool, but the most memorable ones for me are the ones where the guy is super nervous and fumbles with the ring. It feels more authentic.

Also, I really liked that you described it as "hopeful" because I strongly agree. "The First Frost" is sets a very winter tone but gradually transitions in a more spring vibe.
