WOW. OK, I've bitched about this series slow pace here and worried it was turning into AOME. But I stand corrected. This was an amazing episode. 10/10!
They managed to get DG/JA to meet and ALSO for JA to figure out the truth about her sister. And for good measure, EH now understands his true-love better and knows of the source of so much of HY's pain.
I kinda appreciated the low-key reaction of JA to all this. I was afraid she'd go completely hysterical and over-the-top, which the character has a right to. There was just enough hysterics the night of the reveal at the Chicken Store when she feared they may have gotten away again. This actress and director however, made a better choice to have her be in a daze afterwards (in shock, as Sher noted below) to all that is happening to her so quickly. Hers is not an overly emotional character from what we've seen so far, so I do like the portrayal. She isn't dumb, either: By the next morning (after, I'm sure, a sleepless night), she'd put together that Marie was CY and her son was EH. But to learn that all her pain was due to her sister's greed was a gut-punch that I can't even fathom. And for 30 years of deceit, no less.
Tor her to meet her son, while walking home, still in a daze from learning of her sister's betrayal, was PERFECT. Especially how she gazed into his eyes and mouth, unable to say anything to his concern and bewilderment. It was a great scene to end the week.
The conversation between CY/DG was a nice counterpoint to this little drama unfolding, unbeknownst to them. It was kinda difficult to listen to them congratulate each other on being great parents. It also seems apparent that they had something going on, despite DG's marriage vows to JA. JA's stumbling onto them 30 years ago, the morning AFTER he spent the night at her place was not a "misunderstanding".
I'm dreading EA's reaction to this news, since she's so bonded to CY because of false beliefs. Will CY/DG allow the truth about JS's deception of their mother to be known, so the kids don't think their mom abandoned them? And on top of all this is EH's processing of what he overheard between HY and her dad.
Next week should be interesting, and to me, this show has been saved by Ep 57. Thank you writers, crew and actors.
Episode 58 PreviewJeong-ae turns away, unable to bear to tell Eun-hyuk that she is his real mother. Eun-seong…
I cannot believe they've leapt ahead so far in ONE episode! Wow, I figured at least a week's worth of drama leading up to telling the kids. So much for being draggy?
I love the fact that EH is being totally honest with HY. He is such a good man, and I’m gonna say it again,…
He has her figured out already, and yet she says he can't understand her life. In a way, they're both right. Theirs is the most frustrating relationship for me. He just told her he fell for her, and she is so wrapped up in her own sorrow she can't even see it.
OK, one other thing: In Ep 55 (another good episode), maybe it was a subbing problem on Kocowa: When EH is trying to get thru to HY, he tells her "What happened to all your confidence that MADE ME FALL FOR YOU" (my emphasis). OK, he just confessed his feelings, (sorta). Yet, they blew right past it???? HUH?
Oh, and is it just me or does "Jennifer" speak English with a Korean accent???? Who IS that actress????
OK, so it's time my nightly after-dinner confusion/frustration with this series. There is something about this show that is driving me crazy (well, actually several things, but I'll limit it to this): I know it's a cultural thing, having adult kids living at home, but it's not absolute and I've seen plenty of k-dramas where grown up children move out on their own. Yes, it's expensive to live in Seoul, but there 3 adults that NEED to move out on their own:
SW- You are a GROWN ASS MAN. You make good money. You're barely home as it is. MOVE OUT, away from Daddy and "mommy".
HY - Why are you torturing yourself living with a father you resent and family members you can't even relate to (no pun intended)? You too, make good money. Find a place and seek some counseling.
EH or EA - You two are both grown-ups now, with your own careers. Yet you both have NO social life. What is wrong with this picture? Living with your parents is stunting your maturity and at this rate you'll wind up attending ES's wedding as single guests. MOVE OUT and stop coddling your folks by acting like overgrown-teenagers.
I haven’t see today’s version with subs but I thought when I watched the raw version this morning JA turned…
Didn't he tell his mom to stop with the HY stuff? That he wasn't interested in her? Maybe this is the push he needs to MOVE OUT OF THE HOUSE. You're making good money, why are you living at home?
I am still perplexed as to why, when the perfect opportunity presented itself, when SW asked ES if they should…
I can't recall a kdrama where a workplace romance was known about. They always seem to try to hide it.
TBH, this happened in my office too. Two if the staff (she worked for me) had been secretly seeing each other and we didn't find out until they sent out wedding invitations. The fact that they wanted to continue working together in the office afterwards (in different workgroups) gave my Division Chief headaches galore. But, to their credit they were fine, it was kind of odd, actually. You wouldn't have known they were married by the way they behaved.
Only thing messing was a slap or two.I was glad she let it out to her face that that whole mess was her fault.…
I do, given their penchant for happy endings in the early evening dailies. I also suspect, that given the birthrate issues in SK, the gov't may be prodding KBS to include shows with couples having kids.
I thought his giving her a week was excessive. 3 days at most. He needed to light a fire under her. "if you don't…
I am hoping the HY character turn comes soon, as it makes no sense now, with SW able to defuse any situation she may try to come up with and her being in the CEO's bad books.
For EA, she is a caring person, deep-down, we see that with her support for CY and GaRam. I think the writers will do right by the kids and have them heal after the trauma of learning the truth, by pairing them with a mate that will support them as well. To me, the obvious choice for her is the instant family of MG/GR, while EH gets HY. I do think it would be really interesting how HY supports EH when she learns the truth as well.
For SJ, I see one of two fates for her: (as you mentioned) She realizes her dream and sells her first screenplay, which is the story of the recent events of her life: Essentially, the show we are watching (all that's missing is her narrative here). The other fate is as Loelha suggested: As KS Foodville has no heir-apparent, she would be the next choice if she can come down to earth and apply what she's learned at the cafe to the real-world. We don't know what her degree was in college, but maybe her mom & dad start her on that career path.

Those are all good points, I do wonder how they can afford such a nice place....
I'm pretty sure he was just gushing...he can't get his love-goggles off. But I wouldn't turn down a hot mug of citron tea, served by a pretty girl either.
I think her journey, after being fired, would be her storyline going forward. She discovers that EH is her man, after all and with his prodding, begins to re-think her life approach. She needs some time to think this through. In the meantime, sure, she can work at the cafe (so long, JS) to bide her time. But eventually, she'd prolly get another job in the business, maybe something with less pressure (we've seen this before in BML, for instance) and focus on her husband and she'll end up getting pregnant too (both she and EA need to think about babies soon), so there's her own family to consider.
Everyone is quiet today. I thought today's episode was good. Seems like they may move things faster than I expected…
I thought his giving her a week was excessive. 3 days at most. He needed to light a fire under her. "if you don't tell her in 3 days, I will tell her everything. Who do you think should tell her first?"
I just watched it with dinner. This WAS a good episode!1. Of COURSE the fryer is broken when ES brings SW to dine…
EDIT - we also get a little insight into HY's personality: she is a goal-oriented person who doesn't understand that life is about the journey to the goal, and not the goal itself, as EH is trying to explain to her. She wears blinders in her life, which explains her unhappiness as well as she cannot share other's joy in her life.
