I'm really curious about TRTS now even more haha, also splendid match has been on my list since it aired, i might have to watch it atp haha...also heard wonderful things about how dare you so i need to go back to that too, and ohhh im surprised about phoenix heart honestly...i was gonna check it out at some point coz of the arranged marriage trope and some really cool edits i keep seeing of minghao haha😂 also omgg i totally forgot about love story in the 1970s, i was literally this close to watching it but had something come up and totally lost out on the airing schedule 😭😭 thats definitely in my top priorities now

I actually did watch a bit of love between the lines, love beyond the grave, and the first jasmine i liked them early on but ya the chemistry and story sort of naturally lost my interest after a while...i know how difficult it is to sustain slow burn and tension across like 30+ eps which is why a rare gem like ATC feels like a once in a blue moon gift 😅😂

I dont mind it usually but i dont think anyone other than the fl has suffered in this story so far as much as jier has with as little screentime as she has had too...so it just feels really disturbing to see it pile on. My heart breaks for her 💔

I hope she doesnt. But i cant help but think that she might turn against the ml which will anyway implicate lanxiang. I wouldnt even blame her coz shes been through just that much and now u have a crazy pimp on her tail too

Yup i get that. My point was more about the fact that i really dislike when shows start making me empathize for people who arent the protagonists especially when it comes at the cost of making me dislike the protagonists slightly because of it...

I just started ep 24 but had to rush here to rant on how i really really hate what the show has done to jier...once was enough, literally having her entire family be sold off, the 2nd time meeting her at the brothel okay i let that go too, but now the third time, the least they could do was have someone as cunning and clever as jinqi recognize a maid he literally owed a favor to who served him in his own home. He also doesnt seem like the kind of person to forget someone he's already met. I feel like this is just another convenient plot device to turn another ally against lanxiang eventually 😭 also jier as a character has suffered enough, now you want the crazy brothel mama to raise hell on her too! Give me and jier a break!! If you're going to make me root for someone other than the fl, then might as well make this *her* story ughhh 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Thank you haha, i also heard a lot of folks loved veil of shadows. How r u liking the other shows this year? Anything else that stood out? I found most of them heavily female lead driven...for romances, i'd prefer more of an equal screen space for both the leads like in ATC so it's been a tough year for cdramas for me haha

I'm pretty sure after the military camp, but could be earlier like when she first told him about his privilege or later when she risked her life to find that Wo pirate...that's the best part of the show tho that u see the natural evolution of his feelings so it wouldn't be only a single moment

Phewww ep 23 was a relief. I can finally relax knowing lanxiang is safe lol...my heart breaks for jier tho...the scene between lanxiang and her was so beautiful and sad...i knew lanxiang would think of saving her too...hoping it happens sooner than later 😭

The overall show is cute and the first half is especially pure old school 2010s romcom material. Loved that!

But i do have to mention how I'm finding an increasing number of shows centering idols and fans romanticizing this concept of literally stalking idols as merely being a genuine fan. It sends a dangerous message and should be called out.

Like in my bias my boss, they simply gloss over the fact that dareum (and apparently her coworker who admits proudly to the same thing later on) following their idol to their place of work and getting a job there is something that can simply be explained away by being a "fan". A fan should ideally know when to keep your distance, and dareum takes it a step further by literally ending up dating him as well. Which is also something i never understood how they glossed over. Even the ml hagi admits to being confused at first, "so you go on dates but you aren't dating?" And then literally swallows his own words approx 10 mins later coz ofc the fl has plot armor and has to be a morally pure goodie two shoes to be the protagonist 🤦‍♀️

Packaging such problematic arcs in cute characters doesnt make it less problematic. In fact it makes it even more concerning especially in the light of increasing invasions of privacy by sasaengs and stalkers towards celebrities in this decade.

Like imagine if a male fan deliberately started working at a company they know their female idol works at simply to catch "glimpses of her whenever they can". It would immediately be called out for how creepy, unethical and imbalanced it is whichever way you look at it

On the other hand, imagine if they actually had a moment where dareum realizes exactly what she did, and how problematic it actually was. A shocking self realization that even if she didn't have bad intentions inherently, she did end up being a stalker exactly as the internet was labeling her. And no one is sitting there justifying her behavior like her coworker did by saying "oh dont worry i was a stalker too but hey who cares now im one of their best employees!"

I wish such nuances didnt have to exceed the scope of the average romcom. In fact thats how you make a mediocre romcom exceptional 🤷‍♀️
