Thank you for pointing out Chae Wonbin's heart eyes acting omg. I thought i was the only one obsessed with how…
Yess im so glad u noticed that too! She looks at him with so much affection it's amazing to see that from a female lead. Her next drama is a historical romance with kang hoon apparently! We'll be able to see her more ^^
So many military dramas lately, watching this right after kitchen soldier took some adjusting but thankfully ep 1 doesnt have too much military stuff and quickly shifts to the ml and his island task.
Some thoughts on ep 1:
Why do they always *almost* eat the food and then that godforsaken phone rings and they abandon the most scrumptious looking meal...like??! Also they r apparently starving pls make this make sense π₯Ή
Also how is ml a doctor himself and not taking his side effects from his medications his prescriber already warned him about seriously? I mean then again, ig that could happen coz doctor or not, nobody wants to be told they r spiralling...
Also they really threw in a whole *thigh* of eye candy with hong minki in that scene right there with zero warning and i didn't blame lee jae wook for his reaction at all ππ
Lee jae wook has been in some really heavy/prestige dramas lately that seeing him in more laidback roles always gives me a bit of whiplash but he and shin yeun r already looking adorable together so I'm looking forward to seeing more of them...
Wow it's a spam fest of comments requesting a s2 under coupang play's youtube video of this drama's final episode bts! I really hope they're seeing all the positive responses and give us a s2...i was of the opinion that the show doesnt need a sequel since developing anything between a former teacher and student will invite too many trolls whichever way they handle it, but whatever, the chemistry is there and I trust the makers to give us something good, maybe even like Taxi Driver's dynamics between Go Eun and Do Ki, nothing fully established but all up to audience inference. Or maybe they could take a Yumi's Cells route and introduce a whole new love interest for Euiju! Either way, my votes for a s2 too!
This is totally random but it just came to me as I was watching Absolute Value of Romance so I'm gonna put it out there. I'd *love* to see her and Ryeoun in a drama together lol...preferably a comedy with some romance. I think they'll be a hilarious duo on screen with some amazing chemistry π
What a brilliant creative choice it was to have her confess to him using the only language he'd understand and that's math! Her saying her absolute value of romance was him has to be one of the best confessions I've seen lol...obviously nothing was going to come out of it, but as a standalone confession within the context of this drama, it couldn't have been more perfectly aligned with the theme of the show. Euiju finally finding confidence within herself to speak her most fluent language (writing) honestly.
Itβs funny how whenever a show isnβt well liked, some fans suddenly label it a slow burn to make it sound…
You don't have to be intellectual to enjoy a slow burn. It's a matter of different tastes (which is what i found unfortunate), not intellect. Regardless, i get what u mean. My point tho was that this is a more slow moving relationship overall and deserves to be approached from that perspective. And the ml does not fall in love by ep 4, u might be confusing that with filing for love where the ml does fall early. Here, the fl is the one who catches feelings more evidently first (with how she sleep talks about him for eg.) and is more proactive toward the relationship while the ml is still primarily coming from a place of concern at first. Which is exactly what i meant by a slow burn. Slow burns do that step by step of a relationship from strangers to an acquaintance I feel worried about to lovers with more introspection and emotional exploration, which is what happens in shows like this, summer strike and our universe.
My point was that there seems to be a disconnect in how much action needs to happen first before viewers r invested in a couple which seems to skew these days more towards physical chemistry rather than emotional. Like Our Universe got so much flak for dragging out the love triangle but from my pov, if people paid half that much attention to the less overt subtext involving the main couple's feelings that were there from the moment they began raising the kid together, i believe their experience of the show would've been much better overall.
So it seems to me that viewers respond more to what's actually overtly shown rather than inference which is what shows like SOOY, our universe etc do more than giving the usual spoonfed highlight reel moments... (tho there's plenty of that here too)
It's a shame that actual slow burn, subtext-filled stories like this drama and Our Universe always get tagged boring and r being overlooked these days. I thought the joy of kdramas was the introspective vibe which is largely missing from the forward action stuff in Western content. But ig a large section of kdrama viewers r also leaning heavy into the skinship-first, story and emotions second concept of Western content these days and diluting this space with those expectations too. All I hope is that slower, quieter dramas like SOOY still get made for those of us who enjoy the introspective vibes. It's basically the dna of kdramas and would be a travesty if replaced entirely by fast action stories with little to no depth and feeling.
I couldn't believe how those villagers turned on Mechoori for strangers when he's been so good to all of them.I…
I knoow :(( they saw one disruption and threw him under the bus :( but at least he has people who care about him on his side...
Ya he might've been envious of mechoori or greedy or both? π either way that was a plot twist i never saw coming π€£
And i agree 100% they r perfect! One of the best couples this year. So healthy and wonderful together π they didnt even need a grand declaration of the usual i love yous... their relationship grew so naturally and now like u said they're living together! Hurraaay!
I don't want to judge it before it's out but i can't help it with the new teaser and stills...the fl is giving major wide eyed passive energy with the ml doing most of the romance. I really hope that's not the case and they have a good reciprocal dynamic happeningπ€i know seo in guk can handle it, but i need the same intensity from the fl too like DAYS haha
The halmeoni had me tearing up this episode π’ that was a very emotional scene. The other villagers making mechoori the scapegoat was unfortunately as believable as it was cliche...but ig that decides who will make the move amongst mechoori and yejin haha π
The rest of the episode was more heavier than the rest which makes sense since all the mystery is finally out. The main couple still shines tho in how supportive and sweet they r with each other. I'm glad they wrapped up the sml arc too tho i wish he had his own pairing considering even the supporting characters got their own pairs.
I'm looking forward to seeing how they wrap it all up. The lack of tomorrow's preview has me really curious
I said it and I will say it till they make me wrong, in kdrama ml is just a toy π§Έ to make fl happy and as a…
Ya but this year had way better romcoms with healthy reciprocal relationships. This drama just followed the same puppy ml with no personality concept they've been doing since at least 2022 consistently which is a shame since the first 2 episodes made me think they'd go for a different vibe. But not only did this turn out to be the usual love triangle concept, it even has the most caricaturish sfl who is evil for no valid reason and several other used and reused tropes so that's what makes it disappointing :(
Last episode she says "it's kinda scary to see a tanned guy like you with a frown" (she could've just said "a big guy like u") and how throughout the series, she keeps specifically mentioning he's tanned like it's some kind of accessory when it's completely unnecessary and adds nothing to the plot other than expose skorea's well known stereotypes towards tan skin and associating that with "scary" people whatever that means π€¦ββοΈ
This story started out promising, now I have no idea who the leads are, especially who the male lead is. He was pretty much absent in the last two episodes. Like u could replace him with an AI dummy and u wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Even the average female lead has more personality, screen space and stuff to do in a romcom than the ml in this series smh. This feels like the fl's solo story (as is the case with most shin hye sun dramas so i should've known better) with a generous sprinkling of people who kiss the ground she walks on (aka the ml, the sml and her team) and the sfl who fights against them coz the writer told her to and because she hasn't outgrown her adolescence yet...
This man is leading man material. I'm calling it. Please get him in a romcom/melodrama asap. I will take anything as long as there is romance and him in it lol. Azure Spring was his audition and he has passed with flying colors as far as I'm concerned βοΈ
Love how water is the recurring theme in the show...everything ties to it including how the ml's friend tells her to pull him out of the water if she meets him again :"))
