(wait, what? I thought he loved her) Hello Auntie, Uncle, Brother, Granny. (dear Lord. how many people are in that family?) Oppa, I had sex with you because we were drunk so no one is to blame. (OMG, alcoholism AND incest! ) I considered drama more than guilty entertainment. It was truly learning about other cultures. The culture I sincerely don't understand is the Narcissist with nothing to do. I don't understand why such self declared superior people have nothing better to do than criticize writers who are sharing observations and starting dialogues. There are many of these arrogant individuals. Why can't they just converse in their own small world? Articles expressing positive views and asking questions, all without judgement or hate, are how healthy humans communicate. I am so grateful for all the writers on MDL who point out what I might have missed or express a view I hadn't even considered. People who know it all naturally do not believe they have anything left to learn. I personally don't care about the criticisms or judgements of those so insecure they must attack others. If anyone is too erudite for MDL perhaps they should go elsewhere. I for one won't miss them. I know this doesn't seem cool to declare, but I'm going to write it anyway. Aehsassy writes with the intention of helping to make the world better. Hate comments make the world more sad and scary. I'm looking forward to many more mornings reading MDL contributors like Aehsussy.
Though it's a movie not a drama, the saddest story I've ever watched from any country is "Grave of the Fireflies". It's animation but the children are just as real as any live action characters. The struggle of a boy and his sister trying to survive the horrors of war are too heartbreaking to not shed tears. I'm not a movie crier, at all, but I'll never be able to watch this again and I'll never forget it. I believe every politician on Earth should be required to watch this film. This is a reminder that not only soldiers are hurt during a war. This is a Studio Ghibli release so of course the art and music are top notch. But I think most people will remember only the children and the fact that Grave of the Fireflies is a true story.
I personally think the basis for all the problems brought on by drama watching is lack of moderation. I'm super healthy. I run, do yoga, eat well... don't drink or smoke. When I get caught up in a drama I still guard my health. However, dishes don't get done. Calls don't get returned. I cancel social meetings and put off shopping. I gripe at others for gaming obsessions but I'm just as bad. When drama watching or any other activity have a negative affect on health or functions of our everyday life we need to ask ourselves if we have an addiction. I laugh about my drama addiction but I try to also keep perspective. Eastern and western philosophies both teach balance and moderation. Sometimes I force myself to remember episode 5, 6 and 7 will still be there tomorrow. I tell myself to get up and move so I can look sexy like the actors! ( And I can listen to kpop while I walk) Thank you for this article reminding us we live in the real world where illness isn't beautiful people lying in a hospital bed with perfect makeup and doting lovers. We must take care of ourselves so we'll be around if our favorite series gets a season 2.
