[ARENA magazine]The upcoming drama SpringOfTheBlade will soon meet audiences, with XuKai portraying Shen Run,…
I’m certain Xu Kai will nail his role, again. And, therefore, I will certainly watch it. I also like what. I’ve seen in the trailer regarding ML, FL and atmosphere. I’m not thrilled scenes were cut, but as long as the story telling remains intact, I can live with that. What I really, really do not want to see is a breakdown of the story line, like at the end of MR, where nothing made sense anymore, because the arc of ML had been obliterated.
I absolutely LOVED this drama, I really wasn't expecting to love it so much. The romance is so so good like genuinely…
I loved the story, but the ending felt incredibly rushed, brushing over loose ends, and this was precisely because the arc of ML was basically abandoned in favor of minute details and musings of side characters. So ML reappears from his coma 1, just at the right time at the right place, what went down during his coma 1/time travel is explained in a half-assed way in flashbacks - he took back his fate, ok, FL is forced to kill ML which is the only way to destroy the Evil, FL cries her eyes out and is inconsolable, because he is DEAD, yet, as it turns out in the time jump, FL decided not to bury him but to keep him at home, and he’s actually not dead but a demon (how and when and why did that dawn on her?), ‘cause why not. And FL is also certain he’ll wake up sooner or later, which he does thanks to the plant, that actually cannot go against one’s fate - except in this case apparently. Make it make sense! There might be some explanations, but we will never know, because the minutiae of book boy tantrums were more important…
my fav OAT role of his is still arsenal military academy🥹🥹🙏🙏
I actually believe his best role, where his talent as an actor really could shine, was 800. I’d place his depiction of Li Ni (WOL) second. Again, wide range of emotion that feel genuine, relatable. And on top of it I really like Li Ni’s character in the story, flaws included.
Hard to believe ML remembered some thug's face from 10 years ago. Unlike FL, who likely had him etched in her…
I believe he remembers the scene vividly, how and where the girl stabbed the guy with the dagger she stole from him. He may not be super sure about the facial features, but is convinced MTH must be right. And is therefore also convinced, once the old leg injury is examined, it will have this special form due to the special dagger blade…. That the man then confesses instead of insisting to have the old wound inspected seals the deal.
MTH in ep 15 concludes that he has recognized her earlier and didn’t say anything. Is there actually a clue that he recognized her as that girl from ten years back, in a previous episode? For if so, I missed it (?).
I was lookin for something to fill the void while waiting for a long awaited drama whose airing keeps being pushed back… and I am very pleasently surprised. Love the storyline and the acting. Looking forward to how it all unfolds. 🙂
What exactly is the point of dubbing Chinese dramas? Don't get me wrong I've watched tons of Cdramas and I'm a…
Interesting, thank you for the explanation. So, is there ALWAYS dubbing (to improve sound quality or whatever)? I mean, willan actor with perfect Mandarin still dub himself in post production?
When increased? This was initially planned to be 36 episode drama but now it has only 30 episodes left.
Sorry, I was unclear. I know about the primary reduction down from 40 episodes. But I thought it was reduced to 26 and now went up to 30 again (which is what I meant)? Or was that some misunderstanding/miscommunication?
ive been seeing patterns similar to MR too. im mentally prepared to see another dual-leads turns female-centric…
Yeah, the end was wild. Like a student writing an essay during an exam, and in the middle of their story realizing that they have only one minute left to bring it to a conclusion. 🙄

Oh, I wasn’t aware of that. Well, I really hope they won’t mess it up as badly as MR - the gaps in the story regarding ML - particularly at the end - were really wild.
This is the first time I’ve seen the number of episodes in a c-drama increase over time. Aren’t they typically struck down if anything, due to censoring?

I see. That is annoying, obviously. One would think that the system should self-regulate. Once having been duped - or having seen others be duped - by a certain player, one would expect that investors wise up and put certain conditions in the contract, like minimum amount of screen time for actor X….

Actually, the novel is female centric, so this was what I expected, not knowing the script, though an expansion of ML’s story is certainly a good idea. If indeed key scenes with ML weren’t filmed, however, I fear illogical jumps and rushed storytelling (Moonlit Reunion had some of that). That would be way worse than a female centric story to begin with. I guess I’m hoping against all hope that this won’t be an issue…
I’m not sure the comparisons to 'Sense and Sensibility are the best fit, given that this is a marketing context.
I’ve thought about that. Some motives from Sense and Sensibility do appear in the novel. Like the heroine’s determination to choose a ‘sensible’ marriage, not a love match. And as a contrast the sister who is driven by infatuation, which leads to heartbreak/ruin. With reversed genders even the motive of “oh, the one I want to marry is already trapped in an engagement” is there. But I agree, from all I see the drama will have a darkness that is very different from Austin’s levity. (Even though Austin alludes to very serious topics through her humor).
Probably true, but even the best director has to bow to outside pressure.
I hope it works out well and the concerns around this drama, which I have heard alluded to in some comments are unfounded. (Given that I don’t know Chinese I’m not clued into any specifics.)
