This is my first time seeing a K-drama with actually good American/English-speaking actors in it. Very rare; I'm all for it. Thats Disney budget for you

There is, actually. It just didn't blossom. There is one-sided love so far.
can you spoil between who? I-rang & James or I-rang & Gu-ho?

Person Kang Dong Won
Wow, it only took him 21 years to finally accept a drama role😂, wish he'd be in more, but I guess he's more of a movie type of person.

EDIT: Just watched a conference for 'Tempest' and it turns out he accepted the role for Ji-hyun. Hopefully we’ll see them in another drama together soon, otherwise I doubt we’ll see Dong-won in another drama for another 20 years..

The romance starts pretty early for Tang Qi as soon as he meets Su Miao, so I wouldn't say it was rushed. Arguably,…
Yeah, that makes sense. I guess it really does come down to how each of us perceived their relationship and the pacing. I enjoyed hearing your take on it though, and it gave me a new angle to think about. Thanks for the discussion!

How heavy is the losing eyesight part mention in the description?
It’s not really that heavy/serious in the drama, definitely lighter than the description makes it sound. if you want a little bit more of a detailed spoiler for better understanding of what I mean, ill add it below...

SPOILER::
It’s really not that heavy. The description makes it sound like he’s slowly going blind, but that’s not the case. His eyesight doesn’t actually get worse over time. It’s more that his eyes are very sensitive to colours and certain visuals, which causes him trouble in some situations. So it ends up being more of a background obstacle than a serious medical storyline. The real focus is still on Chengcheng hiding behind her filter personas and how that affects their relationship.

I see your point that Tang Qi is always Tang Qi and Chengcheng is technically the same person, but most of their interactions aren’t between Tang Qi and Chengcheng as themselves. He’s connecting with Su Miao and Fang Jin, not her true self, so the romance doesn’t develop naturally. The reveal should have marked the start of their real relationship, but instead the drama jumps almost immediately from dating to a proposal, which makes the pacing feel rushed.

Even though Tang Qi is attracted to Chengcheng regardless of how she looks and she had feelings for him from the start, that doesn’t count as the actual romance between them. Most of the story focuses on his interactions with her personas, not Chengcheng herself, so we don’t get to see their relationship grow authentically.

I also understand that most romances skip over the “happy couple” stage, but that doesn’t fix the pacing issue here. In this drama, Tang Qi was suspicious for a few episodes, but once he pushed Chengcheng to explain, the truth came out quickly. From there, the story jumps almost straight into dating and then a proposal in just a couple of weeks, which makes the romance feel rushed rather than naturally progressing.

The part that felt the most rushed and unrealistic to me was the proposal. They had just started dating, and within a couple of weeks, Tang Qi proposes. It didn’t feel like they had spent enough time actually building a relationship as themselves, which is why the pacing of that moment felt so off.

I totally get your perspective too, this is just how I see it though.

I get what you’re saying, but I wouldn’t really count those early moments as the start of the romance. Back in school, Chengcheng had a crush while Tang Qi was mostly scared of her, and even when he liked Su Miao, she didn’t return his feelings at the time. The real romance between Tang Qi and Chengcheng as themselves only starts much later, and from there it jumps from just dating to a proposal in a couple of weeks, which is why it still felt rushed to me.

I actually really enjoyed this drama for the first 15 episodes, but then it dragged on way too long with repetitive secrets. The romance felt so rushed, as they went from dating to a proposal in just a couple of weeks, and that wasn’t even the end. They added a few extra episodes after that with random plots that felt completely unnecessary.

I did enjoy the message the drama was sending about loving yourself though.

Hopefully the second season will give us some actual romance. I'm 7 episodes in on season 1 and it's like they…
Yeah, the ‘Romance’ genre felt completely misleading since there was no real romance at all even until the end. I was disappointed because I started watching with the expectation of a love story, but…

I actually really enjoyed the look and feel of this drama. As a healing drama, it does a good job of showing Yeo-reum’s journey of self-discovery in a calm and realistic way which I loved. The scenery was beautiful, and the different locations made it feel grounded and genuine. I also liked the supporting cast; they added warmth and a bit of humour, which made the drama easier to sit through even when it dragged a little.

The romance genre, however, got me. I felt it was hanging by a single thread throughout the drama. In fact, there was barely any real romance at all. LYS’s feelings were one-sided until he finally confessed, and even then, nothing much happened, with KYR simply smiling. But at least she showed some form of acceptance towards his confession, right? I honestly saw that as the most romantic moment in the entire drama, which is both funny and a little sad. It would have made more sense to tag it as ‘Slight-Romance’ because sure there is a slight romantic atmosphere at moments but nothing other than that. The ‘Romance’ genre might end up confusing some of the viewers who came for the romance like me.

Like I said, the healing and self-discovery aspects of the drama were enjoyable, but personally, I came for the romance. I was taken aback when there wasn’t any, but I still kept watching because it was soothing.
