Well they haven't really explained why yet. In ep 6 we see that his hair turned white right after his dad was killed, so I guess something happened. He then get attacked by the same dudes who murdered his dad and is stabbed. When he wakes up he says he became half-cat and half-human. So I guess they will explain it more later, as the series gets further in.
