And seriously...what the actual f was that!!? I'm traumatised!!! What's wrong with this author!!? I genuinely…
I agree the novel is a bit too much. But Exposure therapy is a well known method in psychotherapy to treat patients with PTSD. Fangchi trying to get Gaozhun to go through similar experience (physical closeness - to intimacy, to eventually parking lot) but in a safe environment so that it does not trigger traumatic response). Unfortunately Fangchi does not succeed because he loves Gaozhun and loses control with him in passion. But Gaozhun was able to “treat” himself- actually, or desensitize from PTSD by experiencing sex with men he did not care about, and even with the original rapist. He is no longer fearful or angry, and has control of the relationships. I can’t say this “method” is moral or appropriate, but I think that is in effect what happens.
I’m reading novel, and totally fascinated by story of Fangchi and Gao zhun.
I find it even more interesting than Zhang zhun and Zhen Xin.
The novel alternates between the stories every other chapter, so I skipped every other chapter to get the whole story uninterrupted. It’s amazingly well written, less smut, but more emotionally rich.
so many complex themes are explored - navigating challenges of BL relationship, finding identity, sexuality and the act of sex, doctor-patient relationships and complex ethical issues, psychotherapy, sexual abuse, blurring of actor and their roles, what defines beauty and love whether male or female, etc etc
with only a few episodes, all these complex themes were explored in a complex, profound, and perfectly layered fashion. And then delivered in a way that kept me glued to the screen.
Truly a drama masterpiece.
really enjoy reading the analysis in some of the comments, cauz this is truly DEEP drama, you could definitley write essays on this.
the acting is phenomenal.
one of the best dramas I have watched in a long long time. In fact it’s a whole different category in terms of artistic delivery and depth- - deserving of writer/director awards!!
few spoilers from the bookLuqing ask xiao fan - let’s go back to the way we were, Xiaofan leave for another…
Wattpad - chapter 57 he leaves.can’t remember when Luqing asked- he probably did before Xiaofan left for the city, and I think once more after Luqing finds him in 2nd city
luqing’s friend told Xiaofan that Luqing was trying to make lots of money so they can go away together (some place where it’s legal to get married)
we have to remember that in that era, same sex relationships are very much criticized and not accepted in mainstream society, especially in the upper class that Luqing is in it would affect his career/political and business plans.
but like I said in my earlier comment- luqings character doesn’t reveal much directly- have to guess and extrapolate…
having read the book and now watching, I find it frustrating that in book and drama, Luqing is kind of opaque. I was always guessing what he really thought. I think he really feels something for Xiaofan early on, but Xiaofan’s endless asking for favours got in the way, partly because it made Xiaofan always feel indebted and inferior and felt like Luqing was being kind and pitying him. So even if Luqing loved him, the relationship is based on unequal terms.
2nd I think Luqing was not sure if Xiaofan is doing all this in order to help his family or if he truly likes Luqing.
this is so delicious to watch! Wish they could make female/male romance dramas this hot!!! Unfotunatelt those regular length dramas with big budgets and beautiful directing lacks this raw simmering tension and heat. A few short dramas out there are good, but most verticals are not well made or get rather over dramatic and silly. So now I’m turning to BL for the spice!
I would actually love to watch FL and 2nd ML (WinWin) paired together in a modern romance, I feel they have that natural spark together. He reminds me a bit of actor Zhang He
Why is FL and 2ML interactions always so dramatic lol.

If I see that thermos one more time 🫨😠😫
but there are things hinting he is not as cold as he seems.
one example the “gifts from Luqing” that Xiao fan threw away in garbage.
Luqing said “those things mean nothing to me”
but later we find Luqing secretly retrieved something (scarf ) from garbage to keep for Xiaofan
luqing’s friend told Xiaofan that Luqing was trying to make lots of money so they can go away together (some place where it’s legal to get married)

Luqing ask xiao fan - let’s go back to the way we were, Xiaofan leave for another city.
Luqing then kind of chased him to that city, and helped his family again with their mess, meanwhile asking him to go back to their old relationship.
then all kinds of other stuff happens (Xiaofan gets his revenge on people)
eventually Luqing ask Xiaofan to get married
2nd I think Luqing was not sure if Xiaofan is doing all this in order to help his family or if he truly likes Luqing.
and it is a HE 👌
