what I think about this show:

whiplash nonsensical ending

meng ting hui- somebody said it well here - she is beaten whipped burnt tortured hang chopped frozen abused physically every possible way I start to think she become Wonderwoman or Tom cruise -don’t worry will not ever die!

And I don’t get it why the moment she realize her identify she wants to get married- huh? is the marriage for love or an elaborate set up??

And yes she can act but every role is similar - shrewd, aggressive, physically abused

zhili- too dumb and annoying

sheng shu shu- I love you so it’s ok your scar magically healed

yin qing- become more gorgeous every episode, I found his eye makeup more interesting than the plot

A Nian- ending 😭😭 I hate writers for this. also Zhi Li does not deserve him.

chemistry between main couple- luke warm, dragged down by the exhausting plot, and that somehow every episode meng ting hui will get physically hurt by someone or by herself it’s almost hilarious - last few episodes let’s dig an arrow in my shoulder, dig another one in my neck, doesn’t hurt at all

chemistry between 2nd couple- sizzling and best part of this drama

maybe I’m completely on a limb here..but does anyone feel her eyes are just too huge? beautiful yes but way…
her strong facial features sometimes gives vibe of older sister or older sister-in-law for all the princes instead of a romantic partner.

someone with delicate facial features is better match for this ML I think- ie Zhou Ye

And seriously...what the actual f was that!!? I'm traumatised!!! What's wrong with this author!!? I genuinely…
I agree the novel is a bit too much. But Exposure therapy is a well known method in psychotherapy to treat patients with PTSD.
Fangchi trying to get Gaozhun to go through similar experience (physical closeness - to intimacy, to eventually parking lot) but in a safe environment so that it does not trigger traumatic response).
Unfortunately Fangchi does not succeed because he loves Gaozhun and loses control with him in passion.
But Gaozhun was able to “treat” himself- actually, or desensitize from PTSD by experiencing sex with men he did not care about, and even with the original rapist. He is no longer fearful or angry, and has control of the relationships.
I can’t say this “method” is moral or appropriate, but I think that is in effect what happens.

Don't know where you're at but FangChi & GaoZhun's story is smut galore. And all over the place. I liked it…
I don’t care much about that stuff, but I do enjoy the story a lot, it’s heart wrenching

I’m reading novel, and totally fascinated by story of Fangchi and Gao zhun.

I find it even more interesting than Zhang zhun and Zhen Xin.

The novel alternates between the stories every other chapter, so I skipped every other chapter to get the whole story uninterrupted. It’s amazingly well written, less smut, but more emotionally rich.

Wow this is incredible writing and directing!!

so many complex themes are explored - navigating challenges of BL relationship, finding identity, sexuality and the act of sex, doctor-patient relationships and complex ethical issues, psychotherapy, sexual abuse, blurring of actor and their roles, what defines beauty and love whether male or female, etc etc

with only a few episodes, all these complex themes were explored in a complex, profound, and perfectly layered fashion. And then delivered in a way that kept me glued to the screen.

Truly a drama masterpiece.

really enjoy reading the analysis in some of the comments, cauz this is truly DEEP drama, you could definitley write essays on this.

the acting is phenomenal.

one of the best dramas I have watched in a long long time. In fact it’s a whole different category in terms of artistic delivery and depth- - deserving of writer/director awards!!

Fanfan's character doesn't develop that much, but he does take stand for himself later and take a bit of revenge…
I really wish Luqing is not a jerk, that’s why I hoped for Luqing POV in the novel, but we don’t get much of that.

but there are things hinting he is not as cold as he seems.
one example the “gifts from Luqing” that Xiao fan threw away in garbage.

Luqing said “those things mean nothing to me”

but later we find Luqing secretly retrieved something (scarf ) from garbage to keep for Xiaofan

book spoilers:
1 more I remembered:

luqing’s friend told Xiaofan that Luqing was trying to make lots of money so they can go away together (some place where it’s legal to get married)

we have to remember that in that era, same sex relationships are very much criticized and not accepted in mainstream society, especially in the upper class that Luqing is in it would affect his career/political and business plans.

but like I said in my earlier comment- luqings character doesn’t reveal much directly- have to guess and extrapolate…
