Not just ratings in terms of comments too. XHS, Weibo, Douyin, twitter is filled with positive comments and they love this drama as it is.

Episode 31
Zhanghai and Antu has such domestic type chemistry.
It's like Lukewarm Tea in a rainy season.
Not so much over the top but beautiful, in historical drama this types of chemistry is standard for me ( For example Love like the galaxy)
They are so opposite of each other which makes them fullfil each other

Marquis and ML had the most screen time together.
But with even little screen time ML and FL quite popular with General people in twitter, Weibo and Chinese TikTok.
Not everyone will feel chemistry, it happened with me in other other dramas too but I don't say remove the entire romance.
Like who am I? Threre are other audience who may actually like it.
I don't expected much too but Zhanghai and Antu's scene in Marquis house had so much spark.
And In episode 31 too. If they wanted they could have made it romance genre but it's revenge drama.
Saying it's not believable is bit exaggerated coz see in every platform so many ppl actually like their simple romance.
You may not feel chemistry but saying remove it totally from the drama, like threre are so many audience like us who actually like them.

Just leave them, ppl who already liked Xiao Zhan and Zhang Jingyi with their previous co stars are the ones finds no chemistry ( every time check them there is this pattern, either you find it in their comments or just visit the profile)
Like they want to delete entirely the little screen time romance in this drama shows what how much it impacts them.
Not everyone will feel same for CP chemistry but saying delete the entire romance part shows their insecurity.

But the comment said FL had better chemistry with Mr 8.
At this point Mr 8 is the winner 😂

Feeling chemistry not always on the actor, it's depends on our psychology too.
I also felt no chemistry in many drama where audience go crazy over them.
But Personally feel Zhanghai and Antu has chemistry its not that passionate but there is spark there if we remember their in interaction in Marquis house where they were disguised.
About Mr eight its our reverse psychology where something is forbidden and shouldn't feel something but we do.
Zhanghai has chemistry with all the cast, so not surprising.
For ML and FL, every drama needs certain type of development, coz our expectations is higher for them and we try to get maximum but I guess it's not there for them in this drama.
But for other characters our expectations is less so even with less interaction we feel something is there.
It's just My personal observation and opinion.

Ppl asking is there romance?
Romance its not over the top, as it's a revenge themed- political drama.
But romance is subtle and we don't expect very intimate scenes either coz it's not online drama rather TV drama.
About FL character- she is necessary for the plot, even if she didn't have any romantic relationship with ML I guess she still would have been there, coz of being princess of Dongxia.
