TBH it’s clear to me that his plan is to find who is behind the poison, punish them and bring back his nephew…
There is always the possibility that he is duplicitous. That would be an interesting plot devolvement, although I wouldn't like it so much.

right now I am not favoring the main lead at all. I understand why he made the decisions he made, but he could have at least made a secret attempt to rescue her and relocate her but he didn’t. So as far as I’m concerned, I hope he does not end up with her at all. He totally threw her under the bus.
